Amarillo by morning!

It's definitely one of the first to come to my mind before I'd even read your post but had only seen the topic  ;)

So many others though. I could probably list off a top 20 pretty quickly, anyway.

I think it was written by Chris Ledux. He was one of my favorites until he was mentioned in Garth Brooks first big song Much To Young To Feel This Damn Old. After that came out he got a bit ego and was never the same.

It happens: people peak, snap, burnout, go crazy, etc. That's why it's so important to catch their lightening in a bottle while you can  ;)

I always thought Dwight Yoakam's Little Ways was a pretty quintessential country song. Sassy, sarcastic lyrics about love problems. SOP  ;)

Really, I think she's great! I was actually going to chime back in and say that if I dropped that more obscure track of hers I'd at least have to include Crazy and Walking After Midnight too  ;)

Yeah, really one of the kings of country. I'm kinda partial to some of the duets with Tammy:

those duets were great

Another great duet is willy and his son Luke nelson covering the Pearl Jam song Just Breath. That tune has got me laid.

Then there's stuff like The Devil Went Down To Georgia, which will always be an all-time cross-genre classic.

Hell, I'd probably have to include Charlie Rich's Behind Closed Doors too.

And then this killer love song too:

I tend not to think of him too often but I guess I gotta give it to Garth for Friends in Low Places and the Dance...probably a few others too.

I tend to think of Strait as near the top of my list, for sure. Great, great singer/songwriter.

Ok, I know this next one will be controversial down South because of her activism work for PETA but God damn, this lesbian has to be one of the world's greatest singers, period.

She is talented. I remember my uncle telling me about Charlie Pride breaking into country-he was given a hard time some places at first but once everyone saw he was talented, respected the music, and loved country he never heard a complaint.

I saw him sing the national anthem at a ballgame once. Johnny Mathis too.

Nor have I, sadly. I saw her in concert once and she was awesome: note perfect where she wanted to be, experimental in other spots. She really has a masterful control of her voice. I'll have to do a google search and see what she's been up to. Maybe she just settled down and got married. I assume kd is the man in any such relationship. She looks almost identical to my friend's cousin, Barry. It's eerie  :o
