Wow! I don't even know what to say to that. That just made my day!

Yes. Miracles do happen. Just...wow!
I think most believers in reincarnation think that after you die, you go through a review of your life.  You get assistance in evaluating your strengths and weaknesses and use these to plan for the new challenges in your next life to enable for your personal growth. These things are very individual and play into the equation of when we die.  Sure, your child's life mission for growth may have included you two as his parents.

There always are holes in any theory, but that seems to be a fairly sound approach to me.

I remember being born.

I also remember before being born (in the whom).    I slowly became aware of myself, it was of course dark. It was warm and I felt safe and what I now know is the feeling of relief. I felt like I had found the perfect hiding place as my consciousness grew.

It was slowly made known to me that I could not "remain in here or you will kill the host as well as yourself".. I in whatever way protested and didn't understand why I can not just exist in here? "I'm warm and safe, and I promise I will not cause any harm".

They said something like "we're giving you a little more time, honor your commitment". I eventually excepted it after being reminded that I at one time agreed to follow through..

I have no idea how long that argument lasted.

Then birth. Like looking glass with motor oil poured over it. Saw shapes, heard voices.    Next thing I knew it was my first birthday.

I don't think this is paranormal, but there is no way I would start a thread entitled I Remember Being Born.

This thread--this discussion of seemingly paranormal phenomena--is what drew me to Art's program and this forum.  One page on this thread is worth 500 from the Falkie catastrophe.  And yet that page gets the eyes.  Now THAT is an inexplicable mystery!

I really enjoyed your yarn, FtF!  I run pretty agnostic these days, but your experience would seem to suggest there is much we humans do not know or explain.  The telling if such stories, that delicious inability for immediate explanation and ensuing sense of wonder AND the more pragmatic attempt to find an explanation... It is all great fun!
Agreed. I hope more people share their stories in this thread

Many, many. Too much to fill a post. Could write a book on it. Over the years working in 'metaphysics' (psychic medium/reiki master) encountered the most beautiful and some of the spookiest like in a movie. And yep, witnesses. I'm guessing this thread is for the trouble maker ghosts and attachments on individuals? Those, yes. Then there's the beautiful experience of loved ones (animals too) that crossed over that come through a reading I may have with a client.

Doggies??!!

I'd like to think that I will see my doggies on 'the other side', but I don't really know what to think of it all.  I've read, and heard that animals don't experience a "spirit" life... assuming there even is such a thing.  A friend of mine, who is pagan, believes that animal spirits of dead pets can linger.

But I don't really know.  I wonder if it is nothing more than our own mental projections of what we'd like.  For example, seeing a spectral close relative or pet.  My friend says that he has seen the spirit of a pet, and has encountered other spirits, such as his dead dad, who is pissed at him because of the way that he has raised his kids.

This astounds me.  Why hang onto anger and resentment after death.  Emotions are biochemical reactions in our bodies, how can a spirit have emotions if there is no physical biochemical body?  Shouldn't there be some sort of revelation about the petty futility of such things after death, if there is some sort of existence?

All very interesting though....

Psychic experience â€" or random stupid coincidence?: I like the Canadian band â€" Theory of a Deadman. Got their CD out of the library a few months back and burned it to my iPod. Last night I was listening to them on the iPod before going to sleep…This morning, I woke up with the song: “The Bitch Came Back” (from the CD) playing as a most obnoxious ear worm in my head. Couldn’t do anything to shake it…I had no other form of media on (TV, internet,  Radio) since last night….This morning â€" I see on the news that Theory of a Deadman was playing locally LAST NIGHT at First Avenue…This is making national news because during the band’s set 2 people were injured and they had to evacuate the club â€" as the ceiling partially collapsed while the band was playing…During The first Youtube clip below (which  I checked after reading the news story online - now unavailable - for legal reasons I suppose) you could hear the band playing just instants before the collapse…The song they were playing? -  “The Bitch Came Back”…Weird…

I had many experiences in the house I grew up in.  All of my family and many guests heard footsteps and doors closing but that seems to occur in many homes.  I'll share the one that was the most disconcerting because it happened when I was alone.

I was about fourteen and home alone watching tv in the basement family room.   It was around 4:00 in the afternoon and a big thunder storm was coming through.  I turned off the tv and lights and went upstairs to watch the lightning.  Unsurprisingly the power went out.  I guess I should admit the basement always made me a bit nervous and that was the real reason I went upstairs; I didn't want to get caught down there in the dark if we lost power.  So even though I was a little nervous I decided to take a look downstairs.  As I approached the door I noticed that there was a glow coming from under the door.  It looked as if the lights were on.  Surprisingly, I opened the door and looked down the stairs.  The stairs were walled in on both sides and ended at the foundation.  At the bottom there was a three foot area at the left where the wall ended and you can step into the main room. It was obvious that the fluorescent light were on although I couldn't see the bulbs.  I quickly flipped the switch for the lights and nothing happened, they stayed on.  I tried the light switch for the hallway and the lights remained dead.  I'm not sure why but I started to go down the stairs to see what was happening.  I guess the engineer in me thought some kind of electrical field from the storm must be causing the lights to glow.  As I got a few steps from the turn the tv came on.  At that point I decided that I really needed to visit a friend down the street and beat a hasty retreat.  I arrived at his house a couple of hundred yards down the road thirty seconds or so later wet and of the mind not to tell him what happened. In the end I decided that it was either a strange electrical field or a friendly ghost that knew I didn't want to be in a dark basement.

I think I was 18 maybe 20 at the time this took place.

Myself, my brother and three of our friends  (Phil, Clark and Graham) were walking around our neighborhood at night. We lived in what I would call 'wooded suburbs' with large forested areas leading to a bike path in the back of our houses.
As we walked down the dark road (as we often did) we heard a loud female voice call out 'Hey Phil!' we all turned around fully expecting one of Phil's sisters to be at the end of the street but we found ourselves staring at a dark empty street.

We kept going up the hill fully expecting someone to jump out and scare us when farther up the road we heard 'hey Clark!' Again we were baffled since there was no one around, and the voice was very pronounced.

After walking on the path a ways then backtracking to my house we talked in the driveway for a while wondering where phil's sisters were hiding. Phil lived over a bridge and there parents would not let them cross it at night so if they were trying to scare us they would need a ride back, but no one came forward.

Finally Phil left and I learned the next day that none of his sisters had been there.

When I was maybe five or six years old (1970 or 71) I was about to fall asleep one night when my sister, sleeping in a twin bed on the opposite side of the room, called my name.  I rolled over to face her, prepared to tell her to get to sleep.  Instead, I saw two little men standing in the hallway door, completely black, wearing brimmed hats.  These men were connected in the middle so that a bar of black joined them at their midsection.  I could not see through them, and the black was completely black, like an absence of light rather than a color.

They started to come into the room, sort of waddling as they moved.  "They're coming in," my sister said.  I replied, "I know."

The next thing I remember is coming to on a couch in the downstairs living room.  I was on my mother's lap, crying.  I remember being confused that I didn't remember beginning to cry, or remember having walked down the stairs.  My sister was crying on my father's lap.

The next day my sister and I were across the street in a friend's garage with a bunch of the neighborhood kids.  I told them we had seen a ghost the night before.  I explained that the ghost looked like two little hat-wearing men that were connected in the middle, but my sister interrupted and said that wasn't what they looked like at all.  She said they looked like worms.  I was angry that no one would believe our already-incredible story now that she was saying she saw something different than I did.

All the kids left the garage to go play, but I stayed behind a moment.  I stared at my feet and the garage floor, and told myself to never forget that what happened that night was real.

CornyCrow

It's really weird that you each saw something different.  So it was playing with your minds, somehow.  Maybe neither of you saw the thing that was really there?

I have some familiarity with that blackness that you describe.  I saw something recently, in the sky, that was black and did not reflect light at all, so you could not see any details in the form, only the outer shape.

I'll bet you slept with your parents for a few days after that.

ZomZom

For quite some time after that night (and maybe even a bit to this day) certain types of hats give me the creeps.  There was a brand of cookies my mother often bought called Mr. Chips with a label that had a short, shadowy man wearing a brimmed hat.  I loved the cookies but that label gave me the willies.  My grandmother had a glittery dark-green New Year's Eve fedora that she kept on the stairs to her attic that I did not like to look at.  It was reminiscent of the hats worn by the Saticons on the Lost in Space episode The Galaxy Gift.  It's occurred to me that perhaps I had seen the episode prior to that night and was open to a hypnotic suggestion of sorts, and perhaps my sister had a similar fear of something worm-like.  That might just be my brain trying to figure out what happened.  I really don't know but I very much want to.

Sehnzeleid

Probably an hypnopompic hallucination but as a kid I remember waking up in the dead of night and walking out to the kitchen. I distinctly saw my mother in front of the stove stirring something boiling in a pot. So vivid there was steam rising from the pot. I then walked over to the adjacent backdoor and tested the knob, locked. I look back and my mom wasn't there and nothing was on the stove. Shook up me a bit but I just went back to bed.

Just Me

Man, my lifes been one non-stop supernatural event.

At around 5 my dad was in the VA for a heart attack. My ma brought me there one day to visit the old guy. I ran out the visiting room and turned to look at the entrance and at the side of the structure I see a big green smelly turtle. I walked over and bent down for a closer look. It was very big and extended its head out as if to have a closer look at me.

The turtle smelled musty and its four legs were moving like it was trying to move but it could not. Excitedly I ran back into the visitor room to get my dad and show him this turtle. He follows me out and around the entry way and the friggin turtle wasn't there. Of course I got yelled at for getting him out there. I did see a turtle and I looked all over that yard for it. Nobody was out there and that turtle didn't crawl away in less then a minute.

My ma and dad took me to Miami Florida once by plane. I must a been like 3 years old. In the terminal I was standing next to my ma looking around. There were palm trees on either side of the walk way from the plane departure entry and there stood a tall thin guy dressed in a gray colored airlines pilot suit with his cap on. I stared at this guy and I notice he was watching people like some kind a authority looking for something.

I couldn't help but notice this weird guy with wire frame glasses on had holes in his nostrils on both sides right below where his eyeglasses rested. I could see his black and gray nose hairs.

Suddenly his head snapped to his left and he looked down at me like what are you looking at. I was scarred and hide behind my ma and that's all I can remember.

Later on, like 13 going 14 years old I am in high school 9th grade in a rural school. I was walking in the crowded hall between classes with other students and to my right was class rooms and up ahead one of the teachers who taught typing was standing outside his class room door watching the crowd go by. As I walked up to him, his head snaps to his left and he looks down at me and this time this guy says, "why don't you go back to where you came from".

This teacher looked similar to the guy in Miami with wire rim glasses but no holes in his nose.

Why would this teacher say that to me. I always knew I don't belong here so maybe he flashed a warning by telling me to get out.

I just now got a lovely fruit basket from my grandma.  Mine have been dead for years.

1. I genuinely wanted to know!
2. How did the duty to ask the MISSION CRITICAL questions fall to me? Those wankasses in Hoagland's thread are WEAK TEA.
3. I'm sincerely impressed that it's a legitimate hairstyle, and not a helmet. That guy is aces.

I have three ghost experiences that all happened while I lived in Key West, Florida. The Spanish name for Key West is Cayo Hueso which translates to Isle of Bones. Ooooh spooky. I'm foggy on the details but I think it had something to do with Spanish settlers seeing bones everywhere when they arrived. Apparently Key West had been used as a graveyard but I also heard the bones were from slave ships that broke up on the reef. That said, I don't think any of the ghosts I saw were more than 60 years dead judging from their apparel.

These are all short stories and I don't think interesting enough to call into an Art ghost show.

One morning about an hour before sunrise I was biking to work down a semi-residential street. The street was lined with parked cars. I was passing a parked van when right in front of me a man about 25 years old walked quickly out into the street from between the front of the van and the car in front of it. I veered around him so as not to hit him. Right after I passed him I looked back to get a better look at this idiot and there was no one there. Thinking about it now maybe he died from walking in front of traffic.

Another time I saw a ghost was during the light of day. It was about 4 pm in the afternoon. I was sitting in my kitchen at my computer. If I looked to the right I could see through my living room and out the living room window. I lived on the second floor and had my own staircase that led up to my front porch and my front door. The layout is stairs, front door then living room window. So there I was reading the internet when I heard the footfalls of someone coming up my steps. I waited for a knock on the front door but none came. I looked out the living room window from where I was seated and saw what I thought was my landlord in front of it. He was turned to the side, not looking in and crouched down to where I couldn't see him anymore. So I got up and walked to the door and looked out onto my porch where the window is and there was no one there. There is no other outlet from my porch so no way he could have walked off without going past me when I opened the door. I wonder now if i had seen the ghost of my landlords father maybe trying to do some repair work on the building.

The last ghost I saw I actually saw twice. Once alone and once with a friend whom also saw him. This time it was early evening and I was biking home past an old house and in the corner of my eye I saw an old man sitting on a chair on his porch. I turned to look and there was no one there. A few months later I was with a friend and we were going down the same route. He was in front of me. I again saw the old man in the chair out of the corner of my eye. After we passed the house I asked my friend if he had seen that man sitting there. I didn't say anything about the man being a ghost. He answered in the affirmative and was surprised that I had seen him too.

So those are my ghost stories. I wouldn't mind hearing others thoughts about them. I bet Onan who doesn't believe in this malarkey now thinks I'm a nutcase. heh.

Cool stories! Thanks for sharing. With more evidence confirming Einstein's theories lately I wonder if what people experience as ghosts are just reflections of past events carried forward in time rather than being the spirits of the people involved in such events. Einstein and his contemporaries also thought that space and time were one cohesive phenomenon rather than two distinct ones: spacetime. We've just discovered evidence of gravity waves. We know that everything, all potential and active energy is radiating at a certain frequency or another. It's unknown how long these radiations or vibrations might keep traveling through spacetime without being dissipated or absorbed. Every once in awhile (perhaps more often than we think or know) events take place in the universe which cause perturbations in the spacetime medium, ripples in the spacetime pond, if you will. What if these gravity waves can sometimes carry the resonance of something long past back to present time briefly, before they keep traveling to wherever it is they're going? Perhaps this is one possible explanation of the ghost phenomenon?

BTW, why was your friend surprised that you also saw the man/ghost?

spooky stuff , ive never seen a ghost before but my grandfather had property up in central California, and the story goes about 10 years before i was born he was digging in his property and found human remains, they turned out to be a male who died during the 1840 gold rush, ever since the body was removed randomly at night you hear sounds of pickaxes hitting rocks and laughter, ive heard it a few times, but when you go over there no one is found.

I like your theory. I'm a bad citizen and haven't looked up gravity waves yet. I think the ghosts I saw were like some tape replaying over and over again. I wonder if that gibes with your theory.

My friend was surprised I think because he saw the ghost but maybe didn't believe it. When I asked if he had seen him (the ghost) it surprised him.

It's definitely a good metaphor for what I'm talking about, except the tape would be spacetime itself. We're what's on the tape. Sometimes when you record over the old stuff you still get "ghost" images from the old recording  ;)

My problem with that is the "reflection" would come back to earth at a different time and place. The "ghosts" would end up in a different place based on the orbit of the earth and the earth's rotation. I can't get past that aspect of it.

That is really interesting. It also seems like the most humane answer. I'd hate to think I was actually there after I died. I hear stories though where ghosts are communicating with the living like they are confused that there is someone there in their bedroom. I have not come across such ghosts though but if those stories are true that would be interesting. If those stories are true then it might mean another dimension where the "ghost" thinks the ghosthunters are a ghost.

that makes sense, right?

Yes, but not everyone is seeing ghosts all the time and we're just starting to learn about gravity waves. Who knows exactly how they might travel through spacetime yet? Perhaps there are times when these reflections do line up with where we are, here and now?
