Art, George Noory, and Heather Wade

MR. Spock

In 2003, Art handed over Coast to Coast am to George Noory and Now Art handed over Midnight in the Desert to Heather Wade in 2015. Most of us know that Noory sucks and the jury is still out with Heather. It a little weird that both times that Art leaves his show and said that the "new host is good" the show goes down to ground at warp speed. Does anyone else see this pattern?

cweb

Yeah, but Noory was selected by a corporation. Heather was selected by Art and possibly Keith.

Your logic does not follow, Mr Spock.

Remember that Im only half human so sometimes my logic is sometimes fussy. ;)

Morgus

Art never said "new host is good" referring to Noory.
He only said "George gets it" but didn't specify what "it" was...

I'd like to believe that "it" would represent what I call "mashed potato mouth."

No, the jury is not "still out" on Heather.  She sounds like a lost kid on that show and her mental capacity does not seem to meet the requirements of the guests.  George Noory is like a fucking bastion of ancient wisdom compared to her.

Didn't Art hand pick Mike Seigel?

"it" is a big pay check.

Sounds pretty wise to me!

Not sure who actually chose him for the job (he guest hosted prior to that) but Art did "recommend" him.

I do think that if George Knapp wanted Coast/MITD full-time, he'd easily have Art's blessing.

That's exactly what he said Morgus, after trying a number of different hosts.

Art's stated PremRad strongly "requested" he make that statement, from what I remember.  Based upon that, I take it for what it was worth.

I don't think the jury is still out on Heather, I think she has improved considerably after the first show. She was understandably very nervous on, I think it was a Friday night that she started. Come on guys, Heather is far superior than fumblemouth.

Goes to show you how bad MITD has gotten when I would rather listen to Noory.

Dateline

I don't want to listen to either, and so I am firing up the ole television and reruns of The Big Bang Theory.

Same here.  I'm back to listening to Coast and chuckling at every gaffe made by El Noron.  It's as if MITD never existed.   Heather isn't worth the effort as far as I'm concerned.  I get the feeling that if she were to interview the pope she'd ask questions like what car would he like to drive, whereas with Noory we'd get "Are there be portals in the Vatican?".

anunnaki

Reruns of Tammy Faye Bakker would be better than both these shows ! :(

You're saying that the verdict is in? What was it? I figured we'd have to wait until either the doors got padlocked or she established her success on the show, financially and in terms of audience response.

I'm not sure that constitutes a pattern so much as a coincidence.

Do you have access to archives, so you can listen to Noory's earliest C2Cs?  I don't recall their being especially bad.

Noory got bad, as if he practiced it.  I think he worked hard enough to get the job, then once he was assured of his position, essentially stopped working, becoming a warm body in the studio.

Doesn't seem like there's much competition to keep Noory on his game.  Art is a chronic quitter and the other candidates seem to be hacks or goofy Reich Wing dorks.

Jorch drinks. Its the only rational explaination I can come up with. No train of thought. Slurs his words. Can be a royal pain to certain callers. Falls into mud puddles. Gags on a pizza roll? Imagines he's being kidnapped by a group of banditos. The list keeps growing. Paranoia falls in there somewhere I'm sure.

From  the thread title, I was expecting a good joke.  You know... A priest, a rabbi and an imam... :)

Two radio talk show hosts, and their pet armadillo, walk into a bar...

Tinfoil_Helm

MITD had a pretty fun guest on last night.

The dude is telling this pretty wild story about how a hunter was surrounded by a pack of wolf-men/werewolves and the guy escaped, was scared shitless, and never hunted again.

Heather's first astonished response, she says all exasperated, "And was he a lifelong hunter?!?"

WHO THE FUCK CARES HOW MUCH OF A DEDICATED HUNTER HE WAS!  He allegedly walked into a pack of feral dog-men, maaaan!

VtaGeezer

After a few weeks to cogitate, I now think it's more probable that a number of experienced radio/webcast hosts were offered the MITD chair when Bell bailed out and they all turned down the opportunity to step onto the bridge of the Titanic.  HW seems a nice woman, but a replacement for Bell's unique abilities can't simply be anointed.

SredniVashtar

I thought this was the start of a joke and they were all walking into a bar together.

It was probably a big fucking check.

I am truly sorry but Heather does not fill the bill, first she has a daytime radio voice, not that deep and mesmerizing voice needed to keep people glued and second she lost me when she said the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster was caused by Global Warming/Climate change.  Is she the female version of George Snoory?

I think a lot of people tried to give him the benefit of the doubt  early on (including myself) I just wanted C2C concept to continue and even though Noory was never as good as Art with it, he seemed at least willing to give it a try and show the subject some attention.

As time went on he just became so much lazier, way more political and just really generic like most radio and the things that made C2C different became less and less apparent.
