ugh. I took 3 too many chances on upsets. Right strategy, wrong picks  I really stunk it up this week.

Never been in a pool before, it's a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

Going into next week, heh, I will be on my third strategy, I'm sure things will all come together now

I'm in a similar non-BellGab pool as I joined this thread too late.  I finished dead last out of 87 people this week.  There are weekly monetary prizes on top of the season prize, so I figured I'd need to take some risks to pull away from the pack.  I thought Detroit might finally pull one out at home as Arizona had lost at home the week before - wrong!  Cleveland, Chicago, and Pittsburgh were seemingly too inconsistent to win on the road, especially going against teams that should be counted on to win at home - wrong!  I didn't count on Seattle blowing a 17 point 4th quarter lead, either.  I also figured Oakland, at home, could beat Denver, and they almost did, but couldn't score much on Denver's tough D.  I also picked Tennessee to beat Buffalo, but they lost by 1.  Like Week 2, this was a tough week for picks with a lot of upsets and close games where risky picks look to have been justified.

Haha. Indeed, It's not as easy as one might think.  I have played in these kind of pools for probably 15 seasons total. I've never been able to pick a perfect week. I got close a few times, missing 1 or 2 games, but strategy & skill had little to do with it.  It was mostly luck and
being able to correctly pick the upset games.

The way I see it
anything above 14 pts (out of 16 games) is an extraordinary week.
11 to 13 pts is above average & considered a successful week.
9-10 pts is marginally satisfactory, just above chance.
8 pts is borderline fail - might as well flip a coin.
7pts & below is a fail.

Btw, the podcast coinflip pool is just  below expectations at 46.9% correct.
That's a better accuracy percentage than Ed Dames & Billy Meier combined! ;)

The Broncos are the 2000 Ravens. Except Manning isn't half the QB Trent Dilfer was.

Elway will bench him by week 12.

Any other team playing against them with that field position in ot and the Broncos lose.

I was at the game. It was amazing how many people left after that play right before the end of regulation.  For some reason a lot of people thought it was a touchdown.  When the only two things it could be are A. an incomplete pass with 11 seconds left and 4th down, or B. a complete pass with the end of regulation.

The new "Bountygate" will be Elway paying his Offensive Linemen to get Manning hurt.

Because the Pats play tonight, the Broncos-Browns game was on the CBS Radio affilliate, and I listened to this game, particularly the second half. Why the hell did Pettine go for two when it was 20-16. And just like the Browns to give up a 75 yard td to noodle arm after picking him off to take the lead. They are a maddeining team. I want to see them win, because they're a true underdog franchise, but holy shit-they screw up everything.

On the broadcast, Brian Baldinger mentioned how many people left and I was stunned by that.

The only idea I can come up with is there's not much difference between a 4 pt lead & a 6 pt lead. Either score requires the opposing team to score a TD to win late in the 4th qtr.  the browns didn't think that one through & probably didn't realize the choice to go for 2 would ultimately cost them the game. Always put easy points on the board!

PM's last pick 6 wasn't entirely his fault. The RB had an opportunity to catch the ball cleanly but he bobbled it, which gave the defender the opening to grab the ball out of the air & run it back.  The  2 INt's before that were his fault. & the 7 before that! ugh. What a disaster!

PM's arm is toast, I agree, but this entire offence looks like shit too.  His WR can't seem to catch anything, TE are non existent, RB are getting stacked up at the line because the O-line can't run block. The only bright spot is they have next week off to do whatever it is that they can do to fix this clown show offence.

Yeah Denver is 6-0, but the offence is a house of cards. The first high scoring team they meet will crush them by 20 pts.  If the D wasn't good, they'd be 1-5 or maybe 0-6.

I don't think Elway would bench PM. He's stuck with him this year. Manning saved Elway from Tebow, there is nothing, (except an injury as you pointed out Lol!) that will save him from Manning.  I'll bet John Fox is getting a big kick out of this embarrassment!

just goes to prove Elway, don't ever hire your friend/golf buddy to be HC!  Gary Kubiak's new system hasn't helped matters much either!
12-4, 13-3, 12-4 the last 3 years, Elway: "hey, lets change, um,... EVERYTHING  & see what happens"

Woo-Hoo ... the Detroit Lions FINALLY won a game ...  :D ;D :D :D ;D
The Bears finally got the memo that the goal here is to get the number 1 draft choice. It was actually delivered two weeks ago, but Cutler dropped it and it fell under a locker. I have confirmation now that the message has been received.

Recent comments by Del Rio and Fox indicate what an absolute prick Elway is, and that's why I think he's going to bench Elway after the first bad loss, and I think Elway still has enough capital with Broncos fans to get away with it. If Osweiler sucks, then it could really blow back. Maybe Kubiak is the patsy in this scenario. And indeed, he was a questionable hire(especially considering his legacy is being Elway's backup) and really managed to keep a pretty decent Houston squad from ever breaking out.

The offense is shit across the board(the plug in anybody at running back system no longer works), and it will doom them against NE or even Cincy(battle of January bed shitters Peyton vs Marvin Lewis) because this scoring off turnovers being Denver offense pattern can never hold. I've seen TWO teams beat the Patriots that way in the past 3 years, the Ravens and 49ers in 2012. And the Broncos aren't coached by a Harbaugh.

I'll be glad when the Mannings are out of football.  Never much liked Archie, Peyton, or Eli - probably mostly because of the teams they've played on:  The perpetual loser Aint's, the Carpetbagging Colts, and any team in New York.

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of the going for 2 there either.  The only think I could think of is maybe he was hoping if they were up 6 the colts would miss the kick if they scored again?

None of the people in the section I was standing by came back either, which was surprising.

Yeah, that one wasn't on Manning at all.  I actually have a couple good shots of that which I'll upload tomorrow if I remember.

Kansas City Chiefs play a long game;  they will eventually have enough "on-again/off-again(x2)" seasons to seize a quarter-back...
