Uncle Duke I just think working 24/7 has left KR a little crisp

Morgus

Art discussed this issue between Leo and Keith at the start of the show earlier tonight.
Art also revealed that Leo is getting job offers from c2cam - Noory is apparently at it again, trying to disrupt things... :o

it doesn't matter who you are or what you're martyring for, if you give a "me or him" ultimatum you deserve to be shown the door.

Yeah.  I believe you are right.  But I don't know what goes on btwn Keith and others.  I just read about it here.

I wish Art would do more news in the opening of Midnight. Easily trade that for the DMN breaks. Hell, he could make three hours of just browsing news sites and commenting on stories compelling radio.

Yeah, I agree. I'd like Art to spend more time talking solo about whatever.

I agree with this too. It's the one thing that is really lacking in the new version. In the old one he managed to create a sense of time and place by talking about things in the news in greater depth, so that you can re-listen to them many years later and still feel that it's worthwhile somehow. These days he just does a few minutes and then it's on to the guest. I know he isn't going to do four hours, so there is no point even trying to have that argument - and I guess he thinks he needs around three hours to do the guest justice and give them time to take calls - but quite often the callers are adding nothing to the programme right now anyway. He could do a news section without any loss to the show as a whole. I don't know if you could convince Art of that, though; he's probably pretty firm in his views about broadcasting.

I don't think companies appreciate employees taking all this public, though, especially in broadcasting where people are usually concerned with their next jobs and not looking like troublemakers if they happen to get canned from their present one. It just confirms my opinion that Ashcraft is a  moron and no great loss to anything. C2C are welcome to him, that kind of half-assed stuff is where he will find his spiritual home. Noory is probably dying to find someone dumber than he is and can fuck up even more words than the Snorge.

I have to agree. I'd love Art to dedicate at least half an hour to discuss the news of the day or just random stuff. It just feels rushed going straight to the guest after the intro.

I wasn't a fan at all of Leo Ashcraft or the Dark Matter News breaks. I'd much rather hear Art go over the headlines like he used to.

I will miss Leo. I remember a friend once greeting me "welcome to my humble adobe" instead of abode and I chuckle every time when I think about it.  There is something rogue about the news. Not heavily produced and we get a nugget of goodness from time to time.  it is also why I like the Gabcast and any shows that MV is involved with. I like "keeping it real".  The same goes for unscreened open lines. And the Skype problems. It surely is annoying for Art but it reminds me that we are all a part of something new. And different. Everything is rough in the beginning.

seriously, Art sounded sympathetic towards him but given an ultimatum, of course he chose Keith. Keith made the whole network and he's been with Art for years. All Leo did was read stories written by other people. Now Leo's blasting Art on facebook when it's Keith he should be mad at. There goes his recommendation from Art.

AppealPlay

Leo is acting like a scorned lover on Facebook.  However, his childish behavior aside, if it's true that Keith wouldn't link to Leo's website on artbell.com then Keith is a moron, too.

bellNwhistle

Art Bell talking about the news himself is half of what I missed about hearing him on his old shows..

henge0stone

I think its unanimous that we would rather have more Art Bell time than DM news.

chefist

I'm good either way... Art's back! He can do what he wants and it will still work!  8)

So, here's how it went with me and Leo, today via FB chat:

And that was it. I guess he knew the end was near. He musta been burning all the oil wells on his way out of The Desert. He probably took office supplies home. And that's just not nice.

Stop listening?! What type of response is that? Who is he, George Snoory? That's the type of unprofessional and retarded comment that the snoron would make. I guess this guy was a graduate of the Noory Short Bus School of Broadcasting.

Why is poor Keith always thrown under the bus?

If one person says Keith is a dick, most likely there is just a personality conflict. If two people tell you Keith is a dick, Keith might be having a bad day. If several people tell you Keith is a dick, Keith is a dick.

On the other hand, Ashcraft's comments relative to Keith Rowland are intriguing.  I wouldn't know the guy if I saw him, nor have I every had any dealings, direct or indirect, with him.  We know, however, Art and Keith have had a rocky relationship.  Remember it wasn't that long ago Art told us he and Keith were parting ways (again?) and the then in-the-works MITD project seemed to be in danger.  I've also read some very nasty posts from other 'gabbers here about Rowland.  So now we read Leo's comments.  What's the deal with the guy?

What's the deal C2C offered him? To stir up shit between Art and Keith?
Kinda looks that way from here.

I think having a paranormal news segment was a good idea, but the implementation was somewhat lacking. Too many of the stories were repeats or not paranormal in nature, plus Leo's mispronounciations were pretty moronic.  I hope a reconstituted form emerges from lessons learned.

Ashcraft went to the 'dark side' for 30 silver coins.

Yeah, everyone needs a paycheck. And if this is all about mispronunciations Leo and his new job have so much precedent he will be bullet proof.

Waco Kid

;D  Kismet. Couldn't happen to two more-deserving guys.

My favorite was the scatological "news" story. A real touch of class. And that is coming from someone who posts regularly on the Falkie thread.

He and Noory will get along infamously. I meant famously. Sorry for the mispronunciation.

I hope he got a deal from Jorch similar to what Church got.  That should teach him.

markpaterson

Wacokid, you are 100% on point. I used to cringe every time the news started. I think I only listened in the same way that people tend to slow down and gawp when they see a wreck at the side of the road.

Yes, the writing is a little corny, but there's a charm to it and their heart is in the right place. In better hands than Leo's it could be delivered much better. From the awful editing to the screwed up mispronunciation, it just smacks of some crappy high school radio news program. Art deserves better, especially if he wants to be taken seriously by affiliates.

Goodbye Leo Asshat. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Over the last few weeks I started to compile a list of Leo-ism, having no idea that there was similar ill-feeling on this board.

So in addition to green which mean time and carbon dee oxide, there was also…

Tuten-Coo-Men for Tutankhamun.

And most shockingly of all, Rooters for Reuters.

Seriously, he calls himself a news reader and investigative journalist and he can't pronounce one of the worlds biggest news agencies? Ridiculous. Hard to believe he wasn't just trolling hard.

And last but not least, there was this gem the other night…

"Will it ever be possible to transmit data without a cable?"

Let me know if this is ever possible, Leo. Then we can all finally stop driving around with 30 miles of spooled Cat-5 attached to our cellphones. ;D

dan7800

Just listening to last nights show now.

If the news guy does show up on coast, then it is obvious what happened.

If Coast offered him a ton of $$$$, why not just admit it?

I am not sure he was paid at all for that gig,so getting any money at all would be a step up. Premiere would probably fling him a few bucks and he would be off at the drop of a hat. I don't think Leo is going to find himself at the centre of a bidding war.
