Well let's consider, a AM station fading up and down with crackles in the background  mono vs 48kbps Stereo in your ear, hmmm hard one!

Art

Anybody that pays anywhere close to $100 for a pair of glorified earbuds (yep - IEM's) has more money than sense. I have a pair of LG's that I paid less than $10 for and they are phenomenal. Yep seal so tight I have to take them out to hear my son talk to me. Also bought him two pairs of JBL gelbuds and they were less than $10/pr and also sound very, very good.

Laserjock are you the kinda guy that buys 'snake-oil' speaker cables at $100/ft?

Some of us are nostalgic for the 90s Art. I for one will be listening under the duvet covers so my mom and pop think I'm asleep. I'm sure my wife will be impressed.

Someone should make an app to make Internet casting sound like AM with crackles and fade-outs for us nostalgic folks.  Turn the crackles and fade-outs up please.

My first time hearing Art Bell was in late 1995, I moved to Nashville for 3 months, and Art was on an FM radio station.  I had a good stereo system with large speakers, and Coast to Coast/Dreamland sounded incredible.

Three months later I moved back to South Florida and I had to listen to Art on AM radio, what a let down.  But not too long after that I discovered the Real Audio archives, and I could listen to the show the next day!  How cutting edge was that in 1996.

FM radio does sound great, compared to AM radio or satellite.  I still have the old speakers, but I do not have a receiver for them right now.

Just like you can apply an old timey movie filter to the videos you shoot on your smartphone.

Let me guess, WFTL or WJNO....

Actually, I get almost all my cables from Monoprice, not Monster, and you have no idea how much better good IEMs are.

In South Florida, I think the AM station I listened to Art on was 610 WIOD.

Well let's consider, Long Haul Truckers and RVers with Verizon cell plans and Wilson power antennas that are able to pull a signal in remarkable out of the way places. At night camping on a Rocky Mountain or shores of Lake Superior we have streamed  50+ miles away from nearest tower. Signal isn't strong enough to make a cell call, but can receive a stream,  why is that?

Are YOU the kind of guy who thinks a Mexican Stratocaster is just as good as a 59 US made strat?

I spent about 40 bucks on my iMetal 590s and they were so superior that it blew the minds of friends and family, who all in turn got into good quality headphones as a result.  Until you experience the different (and yes, price doesn't mean better, which is what I indicated, don't be fooled by expensive brand names like Bose or Klipsche, they are ok, but there's better for the money.  For 60 bucks you can get almost legendary sound, no, not as good as a 3 driver 500 dollar pair, but who has that kind of money, not me!

Stop assuming you know me.  I research things before I buy and used to go to Best Buy and warn shoppers about the Monster cable scam for fun on days off.

Wife bought me a $100 pair of beats. They sucked and stopped working after only a few weeks of light use jogging and I took good care of them. I never wadded them up or wrapped them around MP3 player

Not to pull a falkie but my apple dock sounds great.

True, but to me there is still "magic" and reminiscences of finding a signal and "tuning in" (versus Tune-In ;) )on a perfect feed, clear signal) to an awesome show or a broadcast caught from far away. But I'm with you, especially for the future and getting the kids into "radio" to go with new technology! I'm a weird guy tho and will still listen to ballgames on my crackling AM even though I could use my phone or,  >:(, Sirius/XM (it came "free" for now with new truck) app when I'm working in my garage etc.

I can't wait for the new show! (And already are spreading word. Going to give some birthday gifts once I find the right method (internet radio or a prepaid cellphone deal to some elderly relatives who LOVED your old shows and who like radio, OTR and AM, but who are "too old now" and don't have computers.) I can't wait!

What we want is a seamless experience for all which is why we are going to use tune in, if Grandma just gets tune in and puts my name in, poof it works one way or the other.

My grandma tried dialing that one phone number Catsmile provided that isn't intarnational, and said she didn't hear any music.  She's on a fixed income so she didn't try that intarnational 1-763-12.39.83:90.35 one so we don't know if that one works or not...  where is that out of anyhow?  I'm betting Belgium or something...

Speaking of income, we're now up to $19,380  :)

For what it's worth, I use "Jamz" Bluetooth speaker. Baseball sized, sounds great with my phone, or kindle.
It'll sound great when someone says "From the high desert.......I'm Art Bell"

bateman

These were recommended on headfi.org and are some of the best sounding earbuds I've tried. $13.

That is so sweet of you, Albrecht, and something for the merchandisers to consider over at C. Crane.

Maybe an "Art Lovers Special".

It seems as if you are the one who pompously thinks he knows me. All I did is ask a simple question about snake oil speaker cables - you apparently know the term.  Monster and Bose are both way overpriced marketing bloated tourist traps. Kllipsch is decent if/when you get to their top of the line gear. Monoprice sells decent cables at a respectable price... but they are neither the be all nor the end all of sensible wire/cabling. Anything you want to buy can be found on Amazon at the same price -- and Monoprice sells there too. I even directed a client last Summer to buy his MartinLogan ElectroMotion ESL speakers from Amazon -- he wanted the BEST sound he could get for a not toooo stupid price. To me paying $1250 per speaker is kinda stupid but he had plenty of bucks in reserve. So I set him up with an Emotiva Pre and Amps and an Oppo ... and he was ectstatic... or should I say electrostatic.  8)

Bose used to be good - many years ago - I still have a pair of 1st gen 601s (real wood - true original direct-reflecting tech) that I still use for my left and rights that I bought back in '82. They SURE don't make'em like that anymore. And FYI I've been an AV professional for over 30 years - from Audio Engineer to Television Broadcast Engineer - even did a stint as an AM afternoon DJ on the radio way back in a 70's clouded former life -- ran sound for several regional rock bands = had WAY too much fun ... well y'know. These days I am a Home Theater Systems consultant and installer -- self employed and LOVE it - but sometime sub for a custom home builder for those who have WAY more money than sense ... there's a LOT of profit there. Current project for him is a $2.5M home on a golf course - with full home automation and dedicated theater as well as a media-game room that would knock your socks off.  So listen-up bucko - I do indeed know good sound .. and also overpriced hype - when I hear either. But thanks for your concern.  ;)

I can never keep the buds in my ears...

Scotch tape seems to work for Falkie.

They sell different sized earbud tips, I'm usually the same way so I'll opt for the large ones and those never fall out.

Ewavegeek

Thought of duct tape. A remote speaker might be nice...I dunno. A pillow speaker has always been in the back of my head (not just for art bell)

My tablet speakers are good enough for me.

You could try playing this at the same time as AB, at a lower volume.

Or, for a truly spooky ambience, play a recording of a numbers station in the background while you listen to Art.
