Until early in the week there might not have even been a show. Let's give it chance before we tear it down.

Exactly. Shit should have been sorted out long ago.

My thanks for all the talk on bit rates and AAC+ there are some smart people in here and some cranky ones, but I always knew that.
There is a reason that we are only vaguely lovable.

This is fine- but how do you blame Keith for not knowing what was happening?  There were talks with a "big player" which probably would have limited his involvement.  That went nowhere and now they are getting things together for a launch in 3 months.  I cannot see where you are owed any explanation of how they plan to get there, nor why you care if it is as organized as you would like to see.

The only reason that we are aware of questions around bumper music and what quality to stream the service in is because Art is here sharing.  Almost any other time you would only know from an official announcement that "Dark Matter will be launching July ___ of 2015." and that would be it.

I think it is kind of cool that Art has pulled back the curtains to allow us all a glimpse of the inner workings.  There are problems, questions and challenges.  And nothing ever goes as smooth as you would like it for any project no matter who is involved and how many people.  This is a 2 person operation at this point and things are getting sorted and decided.

Anyhow, blaming Keith for not having everything in place while acknowledging that Art was in talks with a different corporation until a week ago is a little weak.

The orginal plan was keith to put the show on DMRN. They only went away from the when the music licensing issue appeared.
The problems they keep having should have been easily anticipated by keith. He has had nearly two years. They were only in negotiations for a very short time frame during this 2 years.

Agreed - this has been a roller coaster ride but personally I prefer it over the canned announcement you mention.  We can bitch and moan if we want to but Art doesn't owe us the details nor so obviously taking into account the numerous suggestions we've made.  Yes, we're all fans and invested so to speak, but the roller coaster ride is a "plus" if you look at it that way.  If you don't want to deal with the ups and downs you can always check back in mid-July I guess.  Not trying to be a wise-ass but where else in a similar situation would you have the inside access we have available ?

There must be a lot of sales and management bitches on this site.  They never understand that production requires doing something, testing, then making changes.  It's not just gum-bumping.

I get that but it's been nearly two years. Some of this stuff could have easily been dealt with a long time ago.

I disagree with you, you haven't been privy to what actually happened.

Sorry to everyone expriencing trouble with u7 on tunein.. I made some DNS changes. Long story short, the relay no longer "existed" on the internet lol. It should be coming back now.

Edit: Here's my bandwidth usage for the month. Its pretty obvious when it was no longer accessible ;)

laserjock

Ah, see there, I wasn't being an idiot.

Yup, working now, thank you!  Nobody likes to be told they are stupid when that is obviously not what the problem is.  Anyone calling you dumb will make you cranky when they don't know and accuse you of something wrong.

Glad its working again, i'll be more careful next time when modifying stuff I guess lol.

Oh that's you? God bless Romania 8)

The U7 broadcast won't work on my desktop or laptop through tunein, but at their home website it will via the second "station" they have (the other one is music the last time I checked) but after a few minutes I have to restart it, and it starts playing from the beginning again.  I think it's safe to say that YMMV with this stuff.  Keith won't have this issue I'm sure.  It might be that they are capping how many listeners.  Some of you can connect, but not me.  I CAN hear other tunein casts, including other Art Bell ones.  Art is interviewing some guy named Dallas who'se talking out of his ass about flying to the center of the Earth, the guy is a nutcase, and Art is handling him very well, it's why I like Art, he challenges his guests in a respectful manner.  I'm listening to the Art Bell Always Tunein cast.

I'm not an IT person, I'm a just a stupid photonics tech, FWIW, but I do build my own computers (who else here does their own home brews, I'd love to PM with other home brew people?)

I do! I do!  In fact I am making a triple layer Belgian ale right now that should be ready the night Art goes live! Wait, are we talking beer or computers here?  If so I do both, heh.  I had to put together my own computer though because it was necessary for what I needed it to do.  I was just lucky that once I got it together it actually worked, lol.

Anyone record the one hour interview with Keith Rowland around 1am last night on DMRN where he told all about the issues coming up with Art's streaming including requiring constant monitoring for pirate podcasts on youtube and other websites?
One thing Keith mentioned I worried about is that apparently Keith alone (with no helpers) has to monitor his equipment most of the time, to fix on the spot anytime something goes down. He mentioned it was down for a few hours because that was during the time he wasn't there...
What about if Keith comes down with a bug and is in bed for a week or goes on a vacation or something?
He should hire some assistants so the network can be monitored 24/7 since Art will rely on that network for broadcasting, not just Keith as a webmaster now.

It's not your show, you are not paying for it and you didn't sit in those Art Bell and Keith Rowland shoes. Take time off and come back at show time so you can enjoy the ride.

If I was put in charge of Art's affairs 2 years ago things would of been farther along. But I'm not, so you'll just have to live with the present situation.

Don't lose hope, there's always the future! We want to use the lessons learned in the past to make a better future. Now that you have pointed out this glaring error that Art has made during the last two years, I'll start making plans, I can put together a crack team of specialist in a moments notice.

Art, can me and bud Falkie stay in your guest house until we get everything sorted out for you?

The ONLY reason you are in the up's and Down's with me in this project is because I choose to share them with this group. If that is simply to painful for some I can stop, this is a evolving affair and I am sure there will be more to suffer through.

Keith is a slightly cranky very bright guy who has a hell of a lot to do as do I. I have been building (2) Laptop computers for the studio for the last two days from scratch and just that has me in a foul mood. Windows 7 from scratch.

There are a lot of very smart people on here and your input has been valuable.

Cupcakes taste good either made of cane sugar or high fructose corn syrup! Good luck and I can't wait for July!

If installing Windows 7 from scratch doesn't lead to profanity, then nothing will.

No, it is definitely appreciated.  A few weeks ago it was looking doubtful that there would even be a show, from here there is nowhere to go but up.

Art: Some of these people here could win a million dollars and then they would complain about paying the taxes. Keep up the great work.

Like I said Keith responded to my email questions within 24 hours. I think that's great customer service.

Everyone please chill out.

Hell no Art, don't let a few that have never "made sausage" take away from the rest, our seat to witness your return with first hand, insider information. Please keep posting update! If you don't Falkie and I really will be on the next plane to Pahrump.

I dig very much being in the loop with you, Art.  The ups & downs are all part of the ride.  And - being privy will only make that first night listening to you on the air that much sweeter.

If you're building computers, keep the smokes & coffee handy, for your sanity.  Windows.  There are people that have been driven crazy by all versions of Windows.  Glad you're not messing with Win 8.

You probably know this, but, what you're building there is not a computer.  It's magic.

Art please don't stop sharing your insight to the proceedings ... because of some negative verbal diarrhea from a few vocal asshats.  They are unfortunately neither the loveable nor the vague among the Bellgabbers.
