no, didn't catch that.  what was the context?

I'm listening for it again. Now that I'm looking for it, I can seem to find it. Some guy was telling a story, then at the end he throws something like, then there's freaks like you.

EvB

Okay - I need some noise as I work - may as well stream Friday Night 9though of al the George shows there are - "Omphen" lines are the ones that REALLY suck IMHO.  In fact - i didn't like 'em before I realized I didnt' much care for George.

If I catch it - I'll record it.

Podcast: August 8th 2008, Hour 3 4:20/37:29

First Time Caller Line, "Davin Illinoy" David says he has a situation, that when he was a child, and he was laying in bed, he saw a figure just outside of his closet. Noory interrupts about something looming, David seems irritated. Then he finishes up, asks Noory what he thinks about it. So Noory does his usual oh so worldly wise take on things. Noory's take starts at 5:23. Paraphrase, because I'm not a steno girl. "Lot's of people have seen strange things, I've seen shadow rodents, never by my closet, you know, theres, theres, theres demonic forces, there's evil, there's a lot out there that it could have been..." David, "... and then there's freaks like you, thanks, goodbye." (5:42) Noory "...aaaaaaand sometimes there aresometimes there are, uhh but thats what makes this show successful David let me tell yuh West of the Rockies...." (5:51)

Look, this may not be GN fault.  Even the very best radio announcer should not be expected to play shrink.  Nor should they necessarily avoid using their celebrity (no mater how minor or undeserved) to make people feel better.  BUT - this woman is ILL.  As in I-L-L ILL!  Ask me - I know.  I worked as a mental health case worker for a dozen yeas before i had my son (at which point I dicided I only had enough "Mom juice" for one arena) I'm neither a doctor or a nurse - but i sure as shit can recognize a classic pattern when  see one.

I also "suffer from" (yeah, that's how they say it, even if you don't particularly "suffer") a major depressive disorder myself - which, thank God, menopause, medication, and hard work on my part has more or less under control.

That reminds me of a funny story. BTW, thank you for that post. I was impressed by your honesty. You're not alone. I've *suffered* with anxiety and depression for years now, on and off. I used to dig my nails into my skin until I drew blood when I was 12 in an effort to bring myself "back" from the severe anxiety attacks that made me think I was having a nervous breakdown. I figured if I hurt myself enough to draw blood, that would distract me from the psychodrama screaming in my head. I never said a word to anyone about this, and never made a sound during these episodes. Nobody knew and nobody noticed the telltale scratches on my arms.

The first time I was suicidal was when I was 13. I've had numerous Drs try to put me on Paxxil, Zoloft or some other pharma, but I know better than to take those dangerous chemicals, that often do more harm than good. It depends on your chemistry. It's a crapshoot, and I've never been a gambler. Besides, maybe it's bravado or maybe it's ignorance, but I feel I can handle my problems by myself. On my own.

Having said that, I did go in for that *free* therapy when I was in grad school. As a grad student at NYU, you were allowed 20 sessions with a therapist and group therapy. I, of course, availed myself of both. After going to different therapists on and off for a few years, I decided the *talking cure* wasn't working fast enough for me. I spent some time just trying to figure myself out and being introspective.

Anyway, I started to listen to this show on a local radio station (WBAI) by an Armand Dimele. He is an AMAZING THERAPIST for lack of a better word. He's like a horse whisperer for humans. He's almost pyschic. If anyone wants to listen to a podcast of his show, I'll post a link to his site at the bottom of this long post. He does not do long term therapy, however. He sees people on a one time basis and gives you a life plan (after telling you things about yourself like he has analysed you for years). He does not come cheap, however. The time I went it was $250 for a 50 minute session.

I had an appointment with him for which I had waited weeks. Foolishly, I decided to have lunch with a friend in Kew Gardens, Queens before heading into the City for my appt. with Armand. Anyone who knows the area, knows the obscene amount of traffic in that part of town, to say nothing of NY traffic (my apologies to those not familiar with the terrain). As usual, I cut things too close and left my lunch with just enough time to get into Manhattan, park and get to 57th Street, where Armand's office (The Dimele Center) was. I didn't want to pay $30-40 bucks to park in a garage on top of what I was already paying for the session, so circled the block a few blocks away and actually found a parking spot on the street. The only thing was, I was really far from Armand's office and had only a few minutes to get there before it started cutting into the 50 minute session (read:the $250 session).

I ran like the dickens down the block, wobbling on heels each step of the way. I was getting closer to the Dimele Center, when I had to cross the street. There were no cars coming except for one lone cab. It was far away enough that I could jaywalk and run across the street but close enough that it was a dangerous move if I twisted an ankle, or was not able to make it across the street at full speed. I took my chances (maybe I am a gambler) and sprinted off the curb at full speed to get to the other side. I had one eye on the quickly approaching cab and one eye on the other side of the street. Suddenly, just a few feet from the curb of the sidewalk on the other side, some yahoo out of towner stood there staring up at the skyscrapers. He was directly in my path. There was no way I could swerve at this point, such was my impulse. Then I did the unthinkable...I put both my arms out, pushed him away and screamed "MOVE" all in one deft movement. I did this instictively, not realizing what I had done until about one horrified second later, as I kept sprinting down the block, this time trying to put distance-literally and figuratively, between me and whomever that man was.  Imagine a scene out of Seinfeld with Elaine pushing Jerry out of the way and saying "get out!" like she used to sometimes. I got to the Dimele center, sweaty and still trembling with adrenaline from my *run in*.  To this day, I always wonder who that guy was and what he must think of NY.

The drugs ARE a crap shoot - Sadly they killed the daughter of soem very close friends - a yong woman who grew up with my son.  I still see them - not as 20-somethings - but as the Virgin Mary and The Sheppard one Christmas pageant.

Thanks for the link!

I'm sorry to hear that. I used to know a lady whose brother was on some sort of pharma and stabbed his girlfriend to death. I had met her bother a few times and he seemed like a nice, normal kid with a good sense of humor. It was a shocking tragedy to those who knew both families.

This was one of those "SSRIs often have paradoxical effects on the young" things.  She was doing well - celebrated her 21st b-day early with her family.  On her actual b-day she called an old boy-friend "just to be friendly".  He blew her off.  She swallowed the bottle.

What TOADS!  They've edited the download.  I'll try and see if I can find it if I rip the main stream.

EvB

Well - Either you had the wrong person/story (unlikely - your details were pretty accurate and so was your time stamp) or they've edited the main stream as well.

Damn.

MV/Liberace!

you mean to tell me that they have actually REMOVED the audio of a caller calling george an idiot?  never before in the history of broadcasting has a single individual been soooooo protected from reality.  because of the people he is surrounded by who protect him, in his own mind he must be an international SUPERSTAR!!

Loui Zoot

Well I have it on my hard drive. I'll listen again to confirm.

Loui Zoot

5:42, hour 3, August 8, 2008. It's in mine. I'm going to PM a couple of you.

EvB

Me please?  I TRIED to find it - I swear it's gone. YOu were lucky to get it b4 they did.

Loui Zoot

That's because I still have a subscription, and I get the nightly downloads automatically. You have a message on the way.

Loui Zoot

Did you notice, that he never got back to that guy? At least I don't think he did.

EvB

MY BAD!

I was looking in the wrong place.  I was searching though the story from the guy who thought his son was possessed (where George talks about the Exorcist "remake") ------

The "Freak" comment IS still there - earlier on.

As for the "Audry" clip - George was doing "prank" lines - and this call was - apparently - set up between the caller and Tom.

On The Monday August 11th show -

Well what can I say? George took his meds today I guess 'cuz he was actually not that bad speechwise. There was however the usual other characterological annoyances...but not many.

(Just as a sidenote: This guest seemed to not understand that society is CHANGING and morphing into a one world society which is something that is inevitable and it doesn't take a room of old rich White men to be our puppetmasters to help us along. I don't hear any Trekkies complaining about Roddenberry's ONE WORLD vision in his franchise.)

anyway onto the transcript:

17 seconds into the show George asks: "Can we handle a hundred more people in the United States by 2035?"  (His brain chose to not put in the word 'million' in the sentence)

"...annua reports..."     (Goodbye L)

"I love it."

"And also on Coast to Coast AM don com..."   (Who's that?)

"...that's my gut!"

"I want people to take phone calls and call YOU John..."    (Huh?)

"Let's take some more calls."    (No calls had been taken at this point.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
George: "Do you believe a third world war is on the horizon?"

Guest: "Sigh"

Why does he ask these Chicken Little questions?)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Geez."        (Jeez?Jeebus?)

"Frosty, your take on Ramos and Campion when they shot a known drug dealer in the butt...........your take......"   (Mmmm HOT! George said 'Butt'!)

"You know Frosty after the asteroid takes us out...they'll find old Texas from us and ask..."      (It is pronounced TEXTS you cottonmouthed idiot!)

;P   :P

Thank you SO MUCH for saying that!  I simply DO NOT understand why people are so freaked out by this particular aspect of social evolution. Never have.  the form it takes may be an issue (Isn't socio-political form ALWAYS an issue?) And of course, were all terribly afraid of the "old-rich-white-men" yet we seem to rarely notice that many of the people in this category are (these days anyway) not old, not white, and not men.  they are often rich, true, which has somehow become the definition of "old white men" (social status defined by economic status)

I wish I had the time to make a list of some of the "old white men" who are NOT the archetypal WASPS-males we use as the label.  But, I don't.  Let's just let Condoleezza Rice symbolize them all for now.

So we have a problem here?  Maybe - but if we don't stop calling it something it's not - or SOMEHOW redefine our terms - how the hell are we ever going to recognize it well enough to address it?

Number Two: I am definitely an optimist. That's why it doesn't matter who Number One is. It doesn't matter which "side" runs the Village.

Number Six: It's run by one side or the other.

Number Two: Oh certainly, but both sides are becoming identical. What in fact has been created is an international community ? a perfect blueprint for world order. When the sides facing each other suddenly realize that they're looking into a mirror, they will see that this is the pattern for the future.

Number Six: The whole Earth as the Village?

Number Two: That is my hope. What's yours?

Number Six: I'd like to be the first man on the moon.

-The Prisoner, episode:The Chimes of Big Bend, 1967

CAMAZOTZ  AUTOMAT

Well, fuck the "one world", I say. We're not all accepting it. Roddenberry's vision was beautiful, but it was just that. A vision. A fantasy. Something created in a time quite far gone. Today's reality is sadly far worse. Idealism, also sadly, doesn't change reality.

Also - The "rich old white men" aren't the puppet masters. They're just beneficiaries of the puppet masters. White Christian faces on political figures work well in a white, Christian nation. Doesn't mean they're actually running anything in this day and age.

National sovereignty with open diplomacy and friendly assistance and trade is fine...but we need our armies, our weapons, and our borders. Centralizing control of resources or currency is not something I personally EVER look forward to.
