Isn't it interesting that the web cam message and the password request were on the same day.

I didn't get an email from Art, the site admin did, I sent him an email instructing him on how to reset his password, that was on the 21st. of December.  He has sent me emails in the past asking for his password but it wasn't me this time.  It seems he may have changed his mind about posting something. Think if he was going to post he would have by now.

He never really posted much back and forth with the members on FF, they were more like letting us know what was going on with him.

Hi ABF,

I was trying to register on FF but I get the message: "Sorry. Registration has been disabled by the administrator".  Is this a temporary situation? Is there someone I can connect with that can open up registration? Thanks for your help.

Actually it was the day before, his time zone is around 12-13 hours ahead of the U.S.  It says 10:30 PM on the 21st. Philippine time.

I don't have anything to do with registration, it is random, wish I could help, sorry.  The advantage is Art does read there so he would see your post if you were able to post that is.

Ok, thanks for the insights.

I went back and listened to the end of Arts last show he did, the ghost to ghost 2010, and he said, "When they call me next, we'll do this one more time." So I figure he was planning on only doing one more show, probably his new years prediction show.

EvZe

It seems like we're trying to decipher a giant cryptogram, looking for some reference or inference in each of the few words we have, which I suppose is expected.

So I'll take a crack at it.

If George Noory were really the cat's meow and everyone thought he was just the greatest late-night host since Long John Nebel, and he said "he's winding down, folks, he's winding down ..." my first thought would be that Art had some serious health problem, likely terminal, and was ending his involvement in the show because he was seriously ill.

I don't think that, however, objectively the reason I don't is mostly because of the little insight we have into the machinations of Premier vis a vis the e-mail posted here by Rollye James, as well as Art's recorded Ham transmission.

So, setting that knowledge aside for a moment and - hating to be the cultivator of depressing thoughts - what if Art has the cancer?

minnehan

I am sure Art is fine.  If something was wrong, Art is the type to say something.  No, the comment George made was just to mislead us.

mib12890

I read one of his threads he posted over on fantasticforum.com talking about him quitting smoking. This was a few years back, and he said that he had his lungs checked and they both were fine. So if he has health problems, other than his back, it's something nobody knows about publicly.

mib12890

Isn't that just when noory says he's winding down?

EvZe

#1 - I might stick with my cancer theory. At this point it's absolutely time for everyone to panic, IMO. There's a time when calm and reason  should prevail but this is not it.

#2 - What's up with that email from Lisa Lyon? If I didn't know better I would say this is some big ARG. "Look for a clue in hour X of show #Z!" WTF?

Satellite radio needs a boost, both in terms of listeners and revenue. My money is on Art signing a buku big contract with Sirius. With Art on board, Sirius would get a big boost in terms of both. I really think that they threw a big number up to Art making it nearly impossible for Art to say no.

Nah.  I agree with what someone said earlier that Art is all about broadcasting over the radio airwaves.  Satellite is not an open system and simply isn't Art.  Remember too, Art certainly doesn't need the money.

With how tied down and dead terrestrial radio is, I could see Art making the jump to Satellite. The corporatising and FCC hold of commercial radio has all but killed it. Stern and all the imitators jumped awhile ago. I could really see Art being stimulated by the freedom and lesser demand of doing a weekend show on XM/Sirius. Not to mention that company throws silly money at big names and more importantly big radio names. I don't know, it's a hope and my theory.

(Someone needs to start a pool with all the different theories)

mib12890

Whether he is doing a show on a few stations, an internet show, a podcast, or xm I just hope he does something. I think we can all agree on that.

HAL 9000

In light of Art's contact message via his webcam, my email response from a friend and business associate of Art's, and NOW an email from Lisa Lyonto MK, from which you can see the original; I say to anyone who still believes Art is coming back is merely, that you are at best functionally delusional, thereby:

Qualifying you as a guest on c2c!

I am so glad I found this forum. Sad, though, that it was because I couldn't find Art's name listed as a host on C2C - also noticed he wasn't doing any "fill-in" shows. That made me start searching around and I found CoastGab. I do hope that Art is planning a come back and I also hope he returns to Pahrump. Thanks for the great posts and I do hope George Noory goes back to St. Louis, never to be heard from again. Long live Art Bell, things that go "Pahrump" in the night, cats, Area 51, the "Mel's hole" guy, and Ramona's ghostly presence. Happy New Year to all of you and I hope we get our wish - Art Bell back on the airwaves in 2011!

FortRock

I listened to Coast tonight, and Richard C. Hoagland made around 3 major references to the importance of Art Bell. He did this during his last apperance on Coast with then host Mike Siegal. Could Richard know something about the return of Art? He referenced Art in a way which Art was very viable, had great health, and had an upbeat tone to his voice. Another breadcrumb on the return of Art I think!

Based on this trending in the thread I'm led to believe this is all a big stunt MV coordinated with Art to get more traffic to Coast Gab.

I've already reported this matter to Alex Jones and Linda Moulton Howe. They've packed the megaphone and the Fischer-Price tape recorder and are speeding to MV's as I type this to investigate. MAJ Ed Dames provided the coordinates so it may take them a few weeks longer to get there than if they used a GPS / map / guesswork, but when they do ---

I fast-blasted George Noory while he is with Richard Hoagland and asked if we, the Coast Listeners, could expect disclosure regarding what happened to Art.

Isn't it silly to talk about political infoblocking when the very show we all think is going to model transparency is playing games like "code in fourth section of December 21st.  It is patronizing and insulting to the Coast audience.  Worse yet, we are being offered the same kind of plausible-deniability comments like "he's winding down, folks, he's winding down."

Yes, George, that's how I want my information, veiled and inscrutable so I can wonder, "Is he dying?  Is he winding down his involvement with C2C?  I also noticed the tension in George's voice--the tone was high and the whole winding down piece came out in a rush.  George knows he cannot compete with Art intellectually and George fails to ask the questions the reader is thinking.  In fact, I hate to say this because he is so nice-- George is too nice.  Not being able to thrust and parry conversationally with the versed and not so well versed, I think George compensates with a spiritual-light-worker response that is, well, lazy.  For example, his recently cited question, "Could they be angels" when the caller was describing a spacecraft.

I can't help wondering if he has found a perfect strategy to function as an interviewer without knowing much--or anything--about the subject and without troubling himself to read the guest's book.  Most Americans are PC enough not to condemn a person's stupid religious view, whereas we would crucify the same person for a stupid political view.  So George gets a pass if he makes an idiotic religious-spirtual comment.  I have noticed these increasing in frequency, after all, why not throw frisbees with the dog instead of doing show prep when the staff will write out your 3x5's and if you get stuck, you can always ask a question like

"Doesn't that go along with the idea that we're all part of the universe?"  There is always a long pause as the guest is taken aback, and then graciously replies, "You mean the increasing evidence of thought influence on matter?" and George says, "Yes."

Anagrammy, you really summed up a lot of our general dislike of Noory (and your insight of John B Wells in another thread as well).

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not looking for someone to knock out a breakdown of Hegelian dialectics in hour 1. And I understand that a lot of what C2C presents is borderline new age snake oil. Art Bell understood/stands that and his ability to be a carnival barker at times played well with the format. Not every minute of every show has to be Pulitzer Prize-level investigative journalism. Art blends a nice balance of skepticism and showmanship.

Noory brings nothing to the microphone. Everything he touches has this cursory, facile feel to it. Superficial, cliched and barely scratching the surface. And his exasperated exuberance just makes the show feel unbearably dumbed down.

And Noory closed again (Jan 3 show with Richard Hoagland) with a confident, almost aggressive statement of 'whatever the new year brings, I'm going to be here, guiding you through the night.' It almost sounds like there are rumblings behind the scenes and Noory's flashing defiance and empty bravado.

Maybe I'm just paranoid and miss Art.

Noory is obviously playing this for all its worth. One Rumor rsolved Seattle KIRO now carries c2c

I see they are still putting up Art's Classic show for the week.

Art's interview with Sir Charles Shults lll on Mars from 10-16-04

Scientist Sir Charles Shults III discussed water activity and fossils on Mars, and possible manipulation of Mars photos by NASA.

Shults believes Mars was once an ocean covered planet filled with (non-intelligent) life, and stated emphatically, "It is very clear there is life on Mars; there was life on Mars." As evidence, he cited his recent discovery of Sea Urchin and other ancient marine fossils, water erosion, and geyser activity on Mars. According to Shults, NASA and JPL employees have told him privately that his findings are correct.

A little off-topic, I know, but as much as I love Art, "Sir" Charles was one of my least - if not least - favorite guests of all time.

This is the famed Schults Laboratories, according to the address on their website + Google Maps:

(I think the lab is the garage out back, next to the cars on cinder blocks.)

There's something else floating around out there in the ether about how "Sir" Charles was knighted by a Chinese businessman who had bought a defunct Scottish barony for $10,000 and now goes around knighting his friends for fun.

Anyway, I know you weren't commenting one way or the other on Sir Charles, I just feel the need to regurgitate a little anytime his name is mentioned. I recall that, once, Art asked him where his knighthood came from and he launched into a big speel about how - according to some royal decree of 1412, the Barony of whatever had an ancestral right to grant something under the College of Heraldic Arms rule 22-L ... I don't recall the details, I just remember it sounded like it was a question he got asked a lot.

Great post. Does the tension in Noory's voice suggest that he knows Art will soon be a competitor? Let's hope so.

Guys, we are getting redicouls here... Art having Cancer?? We are really chomping at the bit now for any reasoning behind Art's departure. There is no evidence at all to suggest that he is ill. It's clear to me that Art's departure (which has basically been confirmed now by a Named official source... Lisa Lyon) was a result of failed contract negotiations. Remember, Noory's contract is also being re-done (as he mentioned on the air a couple weeks ago). They were probably talking to Art about his future involvement in the show, he didn't like what he was being offered and walked away in frustration.

We will also never hear an official "Announcement" on Coast to Coast regarding this situation. As long as people THINK Art is still involved in the show, there is money to be made. Either in Streamlink subscriptions or listeners hoping Art will be back. Listeners + Ratings = $$$.

WestBorder

I personally believe we've heard from Art...via his Hamcams message.  Does anyone remember when Art 'retired' for the umpteenth time on 07/01/2007?  He announced it at the beginning of the show, let the few callers he talked to that night make their statements, and then 'faded into retirement,' as Art put it.  He obviously didn't want the 'Great Outpouring' that took place from October 23, 2002 when he announced he was retiring, until December 31, 2002, when he signed off.  My guess is it was uncomfortable, difficult and in the end, too much.  Perhaps we got the Hamcams message because Art wanted to avoid all of that, which would occur in a toned-down way if he posted a farewell on the Fantastic Forum.

My sense is we've heard from Art for the last time.  He is a private citizen again for the first time since 1985, when he started West Coast AM at KDWN in Las Vegas.
