Art did not sell C2C to Clear Channel he and Alan Corbeth sold the show to Jacor and they in turn sold two years later to Clear Channel.  I don't remember the exact figure any longer but think Art and Alan sold the program for around seven million.

The original program was Chancellor Broadcasting Company
this seems correct.

i greatly appreciate the clarity, but how does it change my main point.  ART SOLD THE SHOW

The devil is in the details. ;D

"the devil's in the details."  you are missing the point.  I am talking about the power of Bell to bring down his own creation.  Sorry I missed a step in the sale of CTC.  Missing that step, however, in no alters my original post.

I want to talk about POWER.  For Art to demand his NAME be taken down fro the COAST TO COAST AM website, there must be POWER involved.

Who knows what the deal terms were. It could simply have been contingent on his occasional guest appearances.

Allegedly he has friends on this BBS, but they aren't revealing a peep.

Bosco

C2C Weekend I totally agree that Art has the power and it is all about that.

It would be great to see Art to use the power to destroy the present form of C2C by providing some superior competition.

We all have our fingers crossed.

Just a thought, someone should volunteer to write an open letter to Art Bell asking for more information about what has happened, and what the future may hold.  Email it to everyone who might be close to him, including directly, via his email address.  Maybe you'll get some answers.

Vatar

Call me insane, but I've still got my fingers crossed for a dreamland resurrection.

I'm an Oregon Native living here in the Los Angeles area. I've called Alan Corbeth multiple times at his Oregon home, and have not gotten through. Also I'm a news reporter for the www.unknowncountry.com website, I've emailed Whitley Strieber also without positive results. I think there is a War Counsel around Art Bell planning a response this week, perhaps in Manila. But Bell activity news sources in Pahrump, Nevada are suspiciously dead quiet, Art could be in Pahrump right now in planning sessions without us knowing! Have a grander vision for now Vatar!

Maybe quiet because it's Christmas?

Just noticed that tonight's C2C show is on the Shroud of Turin AGAIN.  They just did a segment on it last week!  Is it just me, or is C2C really BAD lately?  Seems like they are in a serious tail spin, going down down down.

I think I am just extra pissed that Art isn't doing his prediction show, in the first time in what? ... forever?   I was really looking forward to it.  Just isn't the same without Art.

I know Art floats his residence between Manila and the States.... any idea when he was planning to return to Nevada for a while?

Anyone here know an email address that would personally reach Art?  I'd just like to personally thank him and let him know he missed and appreciated.

thx.

It is possable that Art is done for good. He's changed a lot since ramona died. Anything is possable. Im surpised he even went on with it after she died.

Of course the speculation will continue until an official announcement is made but regardless I would like to see Art return to the airwaves in most preferably a full time capacity.  I believe this is probably the best move for Art due to the fact that coast hasn't been the same since the combination of GN, Art's Back and Ramona's death.

human waste chili maker salesman? haha, I stared at that for ten seconds.

This makes me really sad. I've been listening to Art Bell since high school.. he was truly gifted and just had 'the voice' and attitude I love so much. Terrible news.

When I first read your Sig I laughed so hard in my cubicle I'm now sure my co-workers think I'm crazy. But my favorite line is where Phil/Art goes something like "if you have a touch tone phone your out of luck rotary calls only tonight"

From what i've read on here and the way George spoke about Art has me wondering if Art is sick or something :-\

There has been no offical word about why Art would quit apart from Noory saying, he wants to spend more time with his family which is understandable.  Someone said Asia wouldnt play a part cos look at Beck who has kids and does radio and tv.  Beck is in his 40's Art is in his 60s Big difference between the 2.

They re-air fridays c2c monday night (last night) and I got to hear the way George spoke. The context was, George was running down the list of whos going to fill in next week while hes off, and then he said, that they called art and art wants to spend time with his family and that he's wineding down, he doesnt antisipate that art will do any more shows.  The message on arts cam about 30 and that being a ham sign off. Maybe the man is done, hes been doing this for a long time. Long live the hot air.  I dont know maybe you guys are right about him calling George hot air but it could mean anything. The desert, manila. Who knows.

What I do know for a fact is Art was happy with George, "George, get's it" Art's words.

Has anyone herd Art say he hates the show and thats why he's leaving?  I havent. Art is a pretty blunt person, he didnt hold back about details on Ramona's death. He told people what had happend with him and his son.

I just wonder if he's realizing how old he is, and how much time he has with his family, and that he has the money to do what he prolly would have done in his 20's had he had the money then. Spend time with his family.

He's trying to quit smoking and when hes on the radio he wants to smoke. So thats not really helping.

Like i said who knows.  Just some other ways to look at whats going on.

ArtBellFan

There is another dynamic here, this is contract time and it may be that Art and Clear Channel could not come to an agreement, or I should say maybe CC wouldn't give Art what he wants.

minnehan

There are lots of people in their 60's who are retired and bored to death.  And Art is not one to sit on his hands.

I agree that the timing is interesting, and we still have not had offical word from Art, one way or another.

Click your heals three times and wish hard and think postive.

He's not hes traveling and probably haveing the time of his life.

"Art Bell served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic during the Vietnam War and in his free time operated a pirate radio station at Amarillo
Air Force Base. He would go out of his way to play anti-war music (like "Eve of Destruction" and "Fortunate Son") that was not aired
on the American Forces Network."

"After leaving military service he stayed in Asia, living on the Japanese island of Okinawa where he worked as a disc jockey for KSBK, the
only non-military English-language station in Japan. While there, he set a Guinness record by staying on the air for 116 hours and 15 minutes. The money
raised there allowed Bell to charter a DC-8, fly to Vietnam, and rescue 130 Vietnamese orphans stranded in Saigon at the war's end. They were eventually
brought to the United States and adopted by American families."

I wonder where they all are now.

He got to meet some after like 20 years he talks about it in the Art of Talk. Mike plays it on the stream.

I've gotten some information from a reliable source here in Los Angeles why Art quit Coast! George Noory has become very overly concerned about his legacy, and his connections within Fundamentalist Christianity. As such acting through Stan Gallante, Tom Danhuiser, George's Producers have done the following. Firstly even though Art is still nominal Executive Producer of Coast, Gallante and Danhuiser have been given by Clear Channel Stations power to veto which guests Art has when he substitutes for George. Secondly Art can no longer have unscreened calls under any condition, another Clear Channel demand for the show. Thirdly Art cannot allow any discussions which would cause listeners to question George Noory's belief in the End-Times, Book of Revelation type of faith as intellectually false. This all came down on Art as a package demand around late June of this year!

...That is absolutely fucking nuts. If any of that true, I will forever boycott this show and discourage people I know who listen to it to stop listening.

where did you hear this?

it all sounds plausible to me, with the exception of the whole end-times/revelations thing at the end.

A "reliable" source could be your mother. :)   We need a statement directly from Art.  Noory's ham-handed "Art is winding down" just won't cut it.

Merchant Gal

This information more or less makes sense, tho.  Art had screened calls the last time he was on,  October I bellieve, and that was weird right there.

On 12-21, at 09:44am,  I posted on the FF Board that I felt that The Powers That Be had wanted Art to compromise in some way and he told them to stuff it.

If the quote from Fort Rock is true, and it sounds strange enough to BE true, especially the part about the  smarmy so-called Producers having the power to tell ART BELL what he can say and whom he can have on ...... then Art DID tell them to stuff it and is likely still hopping mad over the whole thing.

This leads to what other have said here, about Art making a comeback of some kind, under his own terms and conditions.  I, for one, cannot wait fro that day, and I believe that it WILL happen.
