Whatever Gibson saw from that oil platform is probably the same thing the Dutch chased about the same time.  Btw, Gibson was the aircraft identification expert for the UK's Royal Observers Corps, he wrote their aircraft ID manual.  That made him one of the best witnesses in the world at the time.

Not the Dutch, the Belgians. Sorry, brain fart.

Stu- thanks again...I'm going to read some email that I received after the show last night...you should tune in...will be doing it at the top of the show.
Missed it, I was dragged to a Seder.  After fighting traffic for 90 minutes, sat through 3 hrs of religion, then had another 75 minute drive back.  Will it be on your archives once posted to YouTube?

I was going to ask when it would be available.

Great show last night with Pope and Brrroughs.  Appreciate Jimmy asking my questions,  Nick seemed a bit taken aback by them.  His answer to the question about the triangular aircraft seen from the oil rig lead me to believe he knows what it was.

The interview with Burroughs (with Pope commenting as appropriate) was the best interview about Rendlesham I've ever heard.  May be the the best interview UFO I've ever heard, period.  Really looking forward to listening to it again, but three things came to mind during/after the show:

1) Noted at least a couple disconnects between what Robbins said last week and what Pope/Burroughs said last night.  Have a feeling that number would have been higher had Penninston been there with Pope/Burroughs.

2)  There is clearly some animosity between Halt and Burroughs.  Burroughs mentioned something about them being on opposite sides of a possible federal lawsuit early in the interview, then late he said something about Halt not wanting what happened "out there" to come out fully.  (At this point Jimmy stopped  Burroughs by saying, "this isn't what the show's about....", so not sure where Burroughs might have been going here.)  Assume the lawsuit might have something to do with Burrough's medical issues, and/or the "torture" he claims to have endured (but doesn't remember?) during interrogation.

3) As I mentioned in the past, I get a strong sense of "story creep" from most, if not all, of the key players in the Rendlesham saga.   Until last night, I would have said Halt has been the only player whose story has stayed consistent throughout, but Burroughs' comments might indicate that's not entirely true.  I agree with Jimmy, however, the tape of Halt and his team in the field is this incident's rock with what we hear there being totally above reproach.

Great job, Jimmy.

Only caught the last half hour.  What was the disconnect?

Probably should have "potential disconnects" between the two shows.  This is why I want to go back and relisten not only to Pope/Burroughs but Robbins as well to clarify what each said.  The two issues were:

1)  Robbins claimed one of the three police officers who went off base that first evening drew his sidearm while approaching the object, and even assumed a shooting stance before reholstering the weapon.  Burroughs says the three officers left their weapons on-base with another NCO who secured them in his car while acting as a comm relay to the command post.  (This makes sense to me as it is my understanding the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and UK does not permit US military police to carry their firearms off base, except in a case of "hot pursuit".)  We know Burroughs wasn't armed, he had no weapon to fire when ordered to do so by Penniston.  So which, if any, of the three men were armed that first night off-base, and did one of them actually draw his handgun?

2) I'm a bit confused about the intent of the contents of the famous Halt memo to the MoD.  Jimmy asked Robbins point blank why the events of the first night were not included in that memo. I remember Robbins saying was the memo was consciously toned down by Halt to make it somewhat low key. What I got from Burroughs/Pope was the memo was meant only to report on the personal experience of Halt and his team on night three.  I suppose one could make the point those two answers are not incompatiable, but I got the impression the two disagreed on what message the memo was meant to convey to the Brits.

Neither of these points are signficant to the bigger picture, just things I noted after listening to two shows on the same topic within a relatively short time span.

Okay ... so this is where "Robbins" ≠ me?  But rather is Peter Robbins?  That would make slightly more sense because I have no idea what you're talking about in your clarification. :)

Oh, OK.  Yes, I see the confusion, two guys named Robbins.  To be honest, that never occured to me.  I did say "that" Robbins was on last week, while you were on just a couple night ago.  Anyway, apologies to anyone else I confused.  With this being Easter weekend, I probably should be careful with how I reference "Church" lest I stir up our Christian brethern and sisterern.

I like fade to black. I just don't like the birthdays and people who died today segment.

Duke-  all relevant questions and I agree with you in that we have both shows so close together we get a chance to analyze... as different as they were, they were also the same...which is strange coming from two camps that seem to be holding back some anger... what I meant by "that's not what this show is about" was (and I think you hinted on this) I wasn't about to get in between or involved or choose sides...in the end it was best for everybody and both shows were good... I'll read your questions tonight on the show at the end and try to address them all...

Good shows. I've been listening the last couple of nights. The only comment I can make is to limit the personal stories that Jimmy tends to get off on. I think a longterm host can get away with that, but not someone who is just solidifying themselves.

Overall, very nice though.

I'm afraid I managed to get halfway through the YT posted episode with Stuart before switching off. The following I hope is seen as constructive criticism.

Jimmy, please please allow the guest to speak. You came across (to my ears) self indulgent and too keen to give your opinion and then tip a nod to Stuart to give his (interrupted) opinion/ analysis. As the host you're not there to tell me what you think, you're there to steer the discussion with the guest and allow the guest to say what you've invited them to say.

Stuart is a very interesting and engaging commentator on the science v pseudoscience topic so I felt he was somewhat pushed out of the discussion. As I say, I only got halfway so if things improved then I wasn't aware.

I'm looking forward to Jimmy's interview with purported child time traveler ANDREW BASIAGO this Friday night.
Should be interesting!

Oooo, didn't see that.  Okay Jimmy, if you want to challenge your guest, or at least ask him some pointed questions, I have a couple blog posts up about him.  Well, two primarily.  I did not address his time-travel stuff because it's just too crazy; in other words, you get to a point where the claim just has so little basis in reality that there's no point in even starting to address it.  But, it makes for an interesting story for radio ...

That said, Basiago first came on my radar when he made a big stink in 2008 that National Geographic wouldn't publish his "discovery of life on Mars."  Here's my blog post on that, which is basically Hoagland pareidolia and blowing up images to the extreme.  In fact, the title of the post is, "Pareidolia and Pixellation … Or, Why Blowing Up Photographs Beyond 100% Resolution Is Bad."  If he starts to talk about his discovery of life on Mars, I suggest asking him about pareidolia and why the images he uses are so pixelated (as in, he blew them up too large, beyond their usability).

The second post was his word salad on Quantum Mechanics.  It's common among new agers, less common in astronomy, but Basiago manages to do it a lot.  When doing so, he proves he has no idea what he's talking about.  Examples I call out in my blog post entitled, "Please, Don’t Appeal to Quantum Mechanics to Propagate Your Pseudoscience," are:

Quote“In fact, I spent four ‘phantom summers’ in New Mexico … . There was an extensive cover-up of our summers in New Mexico, uh, in this sort of quantum displacement sort of way.”

“I was involved in actual wormholing where I was moving through the quantum tunnel.”

“So the very act of sending the same child or different child to the same ‘event’ was â€" I guess as a result of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle â€" changing that event a little bit.”

“Actually, what happens is when you go back and visit yourself in the past, you’re somebody from the future visiting your alpha-timeline, then if you interfere with your past at that moment, um, basically Schrödinger’s cat takes over and a new timeline branches off that’s affected by your visit, but then you return to the future that you left.”

George Noory: “Did anything go wrong with Project Pegasus? Anything?”
Basiago: “… Certainly the notion that propagating holographs of past and future events somehow destabilizes the quantum hologram, that was suggested by the Dan Burisch testimony, provided to Project Camelot, is not true.”

In the post, I explain why each of those is meaningless and/or just throwing in actual QM terms that don't mean what he thinks they mean.  At all.  So, I suggest that if he starts to go into QM, or use any of those terms, you brush up on what they actually mean and then question him when he uses them.  Especially things like the Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.  Otherwise, just whenever he prefaces something with the word "quantum," just ask him, "You used 'quantum' there, what does it actually mean?"

You could do this in a very Art Bell -style just by pushing for more information and clarification, not actually being antagonistic (like some hosts) or roll over and say "that's right!" or "exactly!" like certain other radio hosts.

Yep they supposedly zoomed off to Mars together as well.  The guy is so odd to listen to as he sounds so lucid and can deliver all these details yet his stories are so wild.

Btw the school he claims they were trained in the time travel tech. is near Mt. Shasta in No. Cal. which is not too far from me and whenever I drive past it I always wonder as it's kind of creepy around there for some reason.

The best part is when Basagio threatens to sue everyone that doesn't believe him.

Hmmm... hasn't threatened me yet.  Though I've only done two blog posts and one podcast about him.  But, I've been threatened with lawsuits by two different astrologers.  ::)

There's a video somewhere online with an audience of a few dozen. He's assisted at the lectern by the promoter who got quite aggresive with a woman who stood up to ask a reasonable question. She was pretty much intimidated ("how dare you ask that question") until she meekly sat back down. Funny how he alleges he could pick up tanks as a kid and is now reduced to working out in a gym.

the law has nothing to do with science, or common sense for that matter.

Listened for the first time last night and caught the last hour and a half.  What a breath of fresh air! I'd almost forgotten what good interviewing sounds like.  I will definitely be making it a habit.  It's just too bad it's not on a little later to give C2C some serious competition.

Yes I agree!  I need something on at 10pm Pacific every night since that's when I like to listen live.  Unfortunately that's the one thing I can count on C2C for, is being there for better or worse every night at that time.

I like Jimmy. I think the it is one of  the best show on DMRN.

But some of the stuff he does I find annoying. The fake laugh in particular other than that its good!

BETTER THAN NOORY BY FAR :)

This Basiago interview is so far delivering as expected.  Wild stuff.  I'm gonna have another beer to help suspend my disbelief - this one's just too much fun to risk being sober.

Far out .. the guy gets sent forward 20 years, then zips back to his own time, but 12 hrs. early, so he and the other kids can have brekkie at Howard Johnson's.  Friggin awesome.  Time travel a few decades, then follow up with some tasty pancakes.
