Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

I[m with Art. We're in it for the love of the art. Must EVERYTHING have a price-tag on it??!!

I think it is far more likely that there would be massive complaining about the free stream ending than it is that there would be a stampede of thousands of fans to SiriusXM's website to sign up for the pay-service.

Art said he loves radio and wants to do a show.

Art was on radio and was doing a show. Whatever his reasons for quitting, he quit. I love what Art does on the radio, it is masterful, but that doesn't make him right. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I believe people should honor their commitments. Especially when you have caused others to invest financially in that commitment. Art could have worked this behind the scenes for 6 months to a year and reworked his contract that way or he could have given Sirius time to bring streaming to what he considers acceptable. Ultimatums and quitting aren't how you handle things.

So I say again please, sit back and think about what you're saying before potentially giving Art pause to think about never returning --- ever (again) --- man..

He already did that last weekend.  We didn't have influence on him staying with Dark Matter, and sure as hell we won't have influence on him returning.  With respect, I think you should reconsider your premise.

If you sign a contract with a subscriber-based company to do an exclusive radio show for them, I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is "yes."

while the siriusxm app isn't perfect. i've never had any of the said issues in all my years of using it.. So...

yeah. and this expectation of siriusxm to stream the show for free has me thinking two things

1) Art has no idea what SiriusXM is about
2) Its all an excuse and he just wanted out.

Art Bell = manchild

Excuse me... now I need to go throw up.

You have to admit Art has a great sense of humour :P

Negative?  Art left...it was his choice...his doing...Wake up and come back to reality.  You should try putting this energy into something that you can benefit from.
You won't be stealing any more of mine. Glad I'm not on your team. Your a liability not an asset.

Art's justifications might be a mixed bag, but I agree that #2 plays a big part in his departure, albeit a silent one.

Oh the contract..
Oh the non compete..
Oh the satellite.

What will occur?
Oh the mystery.. Check Sirirus' schedule. We lack anything after 10pm EDT starting Friday...

Pins and needles. And canned responses.

Also I doubt Art is back in the Philippines.. At least not this week: http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/super-typhoon-haiyan-a-serious/19561621

Like I already mentioned, we don't have the details.  Shit happens - all the time.

I'd say Art has to have pretty thick skin if he keeps coming back to face the lower vibrational beings that sometimes occupy the writing space here. :o

Roswells Art, hope you can swing this and make it work.  It doesn't seem like a solution is unreachable.  There are some prohibitive media exec dinosaurs over there at Sirius XM who must be very uncomfortable with this temporary proposal but hopefully they have a brilliant bean counter somewhere that can say, "Wait, this might actually work out for us long term if we can look past that bottom line paywall comfort zone for just a moment."  And of course, there will be Pareto charts galore, which will make the media exec dinosaurs smile and giggle with delight though they know not what they mean.

Best wishes sir, whatever the outcome.

This completely explains all the hot air.

Don't you see what you're doing here?  You're alienating (no pun) the ONE guy you're here to support.

At this point HE IS WILLING TO COME BACK if Sirius can make things right.  Sirius severely undermined Art's ability to grow and prosper on this platform.  Being as close to a level playing field as others in this broadcasting arena is important.

NOW HE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.

-Will no doubt.

Good points .....
Jumping on Art is juvenile ....... he did explain what did happen.

Here is George's call to the podcast, talking about Art Bell.

I found that interesting and informative.

Art quitting had nothing to do with streaming, stop buying his bullshit excuse. Only he knows why he quit, but I assure you it wasn't streaming.

Problems at home? Bored with the paranormal? Not making enough money? Legal issues we don't know about? Health issues we don't know about?

If he had wanted to do a show, he could have been on every night of the week across the nation the past 10 years (and he'd have made a ton of cash doing it). He doesn't like it for some reason and he's done.  This was it.

I tend to agree with this.

It's one thing to be disappointed with Art's choices and voice an opinion about it, but it's a whole other ball game to be an asshole to someone you say you love because they made a choice that is obviously going to upset your woefully empty life.

This used to be a great site, and the Noory bashing was often hilarious, but what a bunch of fucking douchebags! You fucking idiots don't have the sense to think that if anyone from Sirius were to read this they would tell Art to fuck off cause his "fans" hate him.

We've become a country infected with Wal-Mart Citizens.

Then he shouldn't have returned to a pay-for-play radio network. Tom Leykis, who I have no use for, started his radio network which is 100% internet streaming. At one point, he was pulling in 40,000 listeners. The face of radio has changed. Maybe Art should rethink his business model.

I tend to agree with this.

If so, why would he bother popping in here to respond to his listeners?  Ego gratification?  Some vague desire to explain /justify his decision (this again touches on ego)?  He's got quite a legacy and is perhaps protective of that legacy and his reputation.  Maybe, just maybe, he has explained himself to the best of his ability and in all candor.  We may not like the decision, but such is life.

I don't totally 100% believe everything Art says(or anyone for that matter)--BUT if you are right why did Art post last night his offer to Sirius and then say if they say NO...that he will at first opportunity stream at artbell.com?

He's stating he's doing the show either way.  If not on Sirius then after his NC, I suppose.  You could say he's lying--but why?  If he's not doing it he wouldn't need to lie.

I've contacted YouTube and told them I would continue to log in as long as people keep stealing and posting Art Bell shows. I won't now and never will buy satellite radio. It's outdated.

It's ridiculously easy to get Sirius streaming for free.  I'm on my 2nd free trial, really enjoying the On Demand feature (which of course means I seldom listen to the show live, and am one of the people contributing to the low volume of people calling in).  I feel sure I will have zero problem getting my 3rd free trial, and in probably about the amount of time it took me to get the 2nd free trial:  about 45 seconds, give or take a second.

My problem with this new tactic of Art's (he works for free, and Sirius allows him to live stream on his website), is that it is only a great thing IF Sirius agrees to it, which they well may.  If Sirius does not agree to it, I don't see how Art can then go off and have an online streaming show on his own website.  As I understand it, since he signed a two year non-compete clause, he would be unable to do this for two years.  If Art is back live on air (or internet streaming) anytime soon seems to me completely depends on Sirius agreeing to Art's latest offer to them.  Let us hope they accept it.

Yawn.
I think we get your point.
Move on already.

You people whining about people expressing their thoughts on Art's ludicrous justification for leaving are the ones that need to "move on".
