"Ian does not suffer fools lightly"

maybe i'm talking out of my ass but i think ian, when he says that, is making a joke.  the quote is from St. Paul from 2Corinthians.

in context the quote means that if you suffer a fool then you are a fool.  so he is poking fun at himself because when he entertains certain ideas which he considers foolish (defined in the greek and hebrew as those who flagrantly act without regard to the consequences of God's/nature's law) he is actually a fool as well.

its a part of the self-deprecating motif that he often assumes when hosting the show.

- M

P.S.  i don't really consider ian better or worse than any host (sans Art)

P.P.S.  i just wanted to use the P.P.S abbreviation :)

EvB

Okay - I need make something clear here.  Ian didn't say that - that I know of. I was quoting Paul.  And, it's "suffer fools gladly"  (willingly) And, Paul isn't suggesting it's a good thing.  In fact - he's being quite insulting, (most interpret this as a derisive comment "Oh yeah - you are so smart - yet you put up with that?" or something like.

But these days - it's often used to mean that someone can be a bit harsh - which was my meaning when I used it. Though I can see looking back since i said I "admire" it - you'd have no way of really knowing where I was coming from - oh the joys of digital text and miscommunication!

Now mythrar - no offense to you at all.  I've been trying to keep my nose more or less out of this thread - but that mis-attribution was irking me from the start - and I finally caved  ;:) At least you knew the source, and the context.

I apologize to all for the mis-attribution between lightly and gladly, so if there was or is any problem with that it is all because of me and my malfunctioning mind and or brain.

You have an open invitation to put your "nose" in this thread anytime you like Ms. Evb, matter of fact I am having it engraved for you now, you should get it soon  ;D.

NO!  the mistatribution is between my quoting Paul and Ian quoting Paul.  the rest was just to clarify the intent.

You're going to engrave my NOSE?  Um, I'm not sure that's a gift I can accept - dear  ;:)

Go For It!!! Engrave The Nose!!!

Ian is always welcomed after a week of George.  He listens, he follows up, and he doesn't let somebody get away with saying somethings completely nuts (which reminds me, earlier this week some guy told George that some of the 911 hijackers were still alive and doing interviews on the BBC.  George quickly followed that with a resounding, "west of the Rockies!)  But what I really like about Ian is that he seems to be staying away from the UFO/shadow people/hollow earth/etc stuff that been beaten to death already.  Unless someone has the head of an alien in a bag, in the studio, I don't want to hear it.
This is my first post.  Hey Y'all!

I don't like Ian THAT much, but he's much better than George.

I enjoy Ian because he is always engaged in his interviews. I don't always agree with him, but I so enjoy hearing a lucid conversation between Ian and his guests. The thing that bothers me the most about G.N. is that he simply cannot, under any circumstances, have a conversation that lasts longer than maybe a couple of minutes. And even then, he only scratches the surface of the topic, leaving the truly important or interesting issues undiscussed. I don't think I have ever heard Ian do this. I am sure Ian comes to every show with a set of topics he wants to explore and a list of questions he intends to ask. Any prepared talk show host would do that. But Ian does not steer his guests away from interesting issues by asking some inane question that is unrelated to the topic under discussion just when the discussion is becoming interesting or reaching some important conclusion. Art was a master of engaged conversation and Ian and George Knapp are also very, very good.

BINGO!  If George could actually follow a train of thought to a normal stopping point, I could deal with him.  But it feels like just as I'm getting engaged - and want to know what's next - George asks some question that is a complete non-sequitur.

Knapp is the true "investigative reporter" and Ian keeps people engaged because he is engaged - not just putting in his time.

Yes, it cracks me up with all the questions that come out of nowhere.  I like Punnett because he actually listens to the guest, and then has something pertinent to add or ask.

Credit where credit is due: Ian did a great job this weekend. I loved the Oleg interview was great. Russian accents rule!

valdez

The "Scalpel and the Soul" guy was also good.  He told a really creepy story about some burnt kid that needed a skin transplant.
George also did a good job this evening...of boring the crap out of me.  Does everything have to be about 2012 and Ouija boards?

Apparently.  :-[

That OUija board needs to say STFUA

Knowing George he'd make it into an acronym that said something about how great of a talk show host he is....or something about 2012.

EvB

QuoteI loved the Oleg interview

ME TOO!  By his own admission - Ian missed one question we'd ALL love the answer to (if we could expect an honest one) "How much of this is still going on?"

I also loved the surgeon.  Have to DL those b4 it's too late - is the free extended weekend over?

EvB

Oh CRAP - it is.

Siiiigh

Oh well.

I thought the horse guy was O.K, but the idea that you are not suppose to reincarnate into other species ( ant to bird, bird to human ) seems to go against the whole purpose of reincarnation.
I may have missed it, but it seemed Ian did not mention the Iran situation.  I'm sure I just missed it.
Knapp is on tonight.   There's something really boring about that guy.

LOL Ok so Ian's comparison to Teen Wolf was hilarious. "I Don't want to give away the ending of TW, but the dad is also a wolf." LOLzzz

I call Saturday nights "Slumming With Ian", because he's a voyeur of crime, and the more heinous the crime, the more I can hear him salivating into the mic. It's a bit strange him being a Christian minister and all. I'm sure there are some people out there that share his fascination with the grizzly murders, db cooper, and all that, but I just change the channel. I have enjoyed him when he's had some interesting shows on, like the Kensington rune stone. Then again, he had a horse of an altogether different color on last night.  ;D

bigdaddyknapp

Ian isn't perfect, but he really reined it in last night in my books.

nirvanix

Agreed. None of the C2C hosts are perfect. They're all very human. Art more than any of them as far as I'm concerned. His recent misuse of a national radio show to conduct an hour-long whine about his personal visa problem was too much for me to listen to.

Ian is maturing as time goes on. Definitely more equinimity now as compared to the Quaylegate incident.

Personally, I'd rather listen to Art whine about his prostate for an hour than spend that time with Snoory.

Well don't tell me, tell Art - I'm sure he'd me more than happy to oblige you.  ;)

I think Ian's improved a lot as of late. I still don't care for his dreadful cornball humor, but he's intelligent and when he keeps his ego and religious beliefs in the closet he's quite good.

Agreed.  I actually don't mind his cornball humour, and I'm lucky enough to not have heard the sanctimonious side often enough to care about it.  I liked it last night when that stoner sounding chick called and said she always thought she was a cat but didn't have any real story, and Ian pretty much dumped the call because Jason the horse had "Raised the bar".  Good way to keep the (would be) flakes at bay.

I am not in favor of this separate thread, but will respect the wishes of its creator.  You dont get to choose the good Ian from the bad Ian on the radio, you get both by default.

All of the good qualities that he has are trumped by the ego maniacal insider baseball he plays with guests where he thinks he knows as much if not more than the guest .  Sometimes this is true, but, most of the time, it is just plane annoying.

I do like his Crypto-news. Not much else. He used to be much better. He has degenerated in my opinion.

I used to be a big fan of Ian's, most of his guest suck now and he doesn't have the decency to greet his audience anymore..he has become an arrogant know it all.
