The wife/widow burning deal was, apparently, a result of the Islamic genocidal invasions. (Better die than let the Muzzies get you now that your man can't protect you.) Though some sources say possibly related to other traditions. When we get Indian food it is often really others, mainly Pakis since Hindoos don't use meat (there are some outlier festivals that result in slaughter though.) While our Hollywood friends like to think everything is namaste and peaceful there is lots of internecine warfare, conflicts (cold and hot) with neighbors, poverty, exploitation, and even lack of shitters for many, if not most, in India. Recently there has even been some serious internal political conflicts and drama. Namaste. We need them as an ally against Commies and Muzzies so hope they sort stuff out.

You really need to see me with the moustache to get the full effect. During lockdown I developed a one-man show called 'An Evening With Grand Admiral Doenitz', where the former head of the Kriegsmarine reminisced about the Battle of the Atlantic and occasionally broke into song. Technically it would be me doing Anthony Eden while pretending to be a prominent Nazi. It's one of the highlights of the show (along with his version of Marlene Dietrich doing 'Lili Marlene') but sadly my efforts to get the thing crowdfunded fell on stony ground, so I'd need to see some cold hard cash first.
