God Save Me . . .

I actually AGREE with GEORGE!

This salmonella in peanut products - which the company (companies?) knew about for TWO YEARS and went lab-shopping till they found one that wold clear them - THEN never bothered to clean the equipment before proceeding - is a CRIME.

We all know that KIDS love peanut butter. It's commonly part of snacks given at daycare, school and afterschool.  Children are even more vulnerable than adults to salmonella infection.

The people responsible for this decision should be in jail.

Negligent homicide - or whatever the charge for doing something you know could harm that results in death.

This tainted peanut meal has also been used in military food prep.

Take a look here for the list of recalls:  http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm

No need to freak out. What George is saying is 1. not ground breaking 2. MANY others agree with the criminal aspect of selling tainted, lethal food stuffs to elderly/children. They're going to lose MORE money this way than if they had just dumped all the food to begin with. Greedy mudderpuckers.

agreed.  this is where i part ways with my "conservative" colleagues.  i appreciate government regulation of business, particularly in the food and medicine sectors.  if not for said regulation, this peanut butter debacle would be but a sliver of the dangers facing us as consumers because business proves to us again and again that it's all about the god damned bottom line... and nothing else.

whether it's your insurance company, your employer, the manufacturer of your food, or the company that made your car, big business does NOT have our best interests at heart.  i say let them take their constant complaints of government regulation straight to hell.  i prefer their discontent over salmonella or mercury, thank you very much.

Those responsible are lucky they are not in China. Trial tomorrow followed by the execution on the following day.

Actually - I was thinking that when I started this thread.

Peanut butter is disgusting. I feel sorry for anyone who HAS to eat it. Sounds like it went to senior living "communities" and schools. How sad. I remember Rush bragging about being invited to the white house and telling everyone how Bush asked for "peanut butter and jelly sandwich. no purple jelly" LOL. Could you imagine if our dear lovely genius ex Prez ingested some of that? The plant owners would be on trial for threatening national security!

Tis but a sliver that is repoted and known about. The plant had NOT been inspected by federal food safety inspectors since 2001. The FDA was aware since April of 2008 that there were problems since Canada refused the product because of it being contaminated with metal. From June 07 - Jan 09 they allowed the tainted food to be used why?
QuoteFederal officials now say the plant had a salmonella problem dating back at least to June 2007.
Start at whom has allowed this to take place and has fostered this type of conduct, the FDA. The same FDA that allows drug companies to fund their own research and write their own papers on drug saftey.

Oh the beauty of being able to buy your inspectors. Let's not forget how George blew the lid (LOL) on Aspartame and Ronald Reagan! This isn't the FDA's fault though. The FDA's problem is that drugs and food shouldn't be monitored by the same agency.

Yes it is their fault along with the USDA as THEY ARE ENTRUSTED AND BY LAW RESPONSIBLE for protecting the public from these types of actions.

Bush stopped producers from testing for Mad Cow even the ones who want to test cannot.
QuoteLet's say you're the owner of a slaughterhouse, and you want to test all the beef leaving your facility to make sure it has no signs of mad cow disease. Your customers expect that. Well, guess what: the Bush administration has gone to court to prevent Creekstone, a Kansas slaughterhouse from going the extra mile to insure food safety.
The rationale? Because all that extra testing might create false positives, and frighten consumers. That's what the government claims. blog.beliefnet.com/crunchycon/2008/05/bush-dont-inspect-that-meat.html
GMO corn was released into the food chain years ago, now they have all ready let cloned meat and milk into the flow with no testing or effects. Tainted milk and baby formula from China what does the FDA do? Raises the level of contamination allowed and says it's safe with no studies done. Mercury is now safe for children & pregnant mothers to be to eat, why? The FDA said so.

I think a non-answer is not a YES. The FDA doesn't do much at all! Their regulating power isn't that far reaching.

You jest! Go ahead and make a claim that water prevents dehydration and see how much nonpower the FDA has.

I'm surprised they even allow peanut butter in schools now considering how many children seem to be allergic to it.

Peanut Butter is one of the best survival foods. It might be a good time to stock up!
