Condolences to the people in Las Vegas CATALONIA. In addition to the dead there are now hundreds of witnesses whose lives are forever changed from this tragedy. Also for all the LE, EMS, and hospital personel traumatized while trying to do their jobs in what effectively became a war coup zone. 😢

Good morning Yorkshire,

I was just wondering how you reconcile gun control in the form of a ban with those examples in history, where unarmed segments of society were completely wiped off the face of the earth by corrupt forces who were armed?  I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am genuinely interested.

I have no idea how the mass arming of the US population makes it safer. The majority of those who own firearms will never be in a position of having to co-ordinate the repelling of a foreign power; Not least of all because most aren't trained to do so. Its why we have armies, air forces and navies. Even special forces operators make mistakes, and they train everyday using live rounds. But like I said before, this massacre in Las Vegas will be forgotten in a year and people will just accept the next one. If it was a problem, it would be dealt with, its not a problem.

The 'patriot' stuff with guns is a fantasy borne from a bygone age when the musket was the only firearm available and there were no organised western armies.

Shocking that someone could walk through the lobby of Mandalay Bay with some type of container(s) holding 10 rifles and at least 1000 rounds of ammo just has me shaking my head. That has to be close to 200 pounds of hardware minimum.

you mean like a large suitcase?
an 25 inch suitcase would hold quite a few ar15's with folding stocks.

I didn’t say it couldn’t be done, but I am guessing they probably have elevators from the parking lot. Even pulling a 100 pound suitcase takes some effort, especially for a 64 year old man.

Seems he was determined.

Let's face it, if a person is determined to cause harm, they will find a way to do it whether it is with a modified AR15 or a pipe bomb.

With comments like that you can be the Mayor of London.  ;)

=Schlyder=

I've heard media mention of AKs... now that could mean anything from a kid's popgun to German flak 88s  LOL

Maybe an RPK?  or an AR/M4 platform with drum mags?  I never tried to count the bursts of fire, to see how many rounds fired before possible reloading, so I am purely speculating.
Considering his firing position... the rate of fire he was producing... the amount of tightly grouped people...and lack of exits and cover, etc... how more people weren't killed outright is a miracle.
He must not have had much experience firing whatever gun he had, because a good shooter could have killed 100s if not a 1000 or more.   and wound many more.

I can’t even imagine the carnage.

Serious question.. Blood donations. Do you have to be in NV? They're calling for blood. Does anyone know?

Good question..I think the Red Cross collects and expedites donations to emergencies regardless where they are located.

So there's no distance problem? Presumably it is refrigerated?

That concrete flat the audience was standing on, ought to be pockmarked with impact scars.

So. Is it? The sun is up. Let's see the footage.

Who

As predicted, Alex Jones is already doing his best to monetize the Las Vegas shooting.  What an asshole.  Just Google Alex Jones Las Vegas shooting and you'll see the infoworld cash machine spinning at full RPM.

Not Yorkshire, but do you really think Skeeter and Bubba is really going to stop a Authoritarian takeover. Especially when we keep shoveling money into the military and now even having our local enforcement in tanks and looking more like Robocop.

We just had a single piece of garbage wipe out 60 people in a pro gun open carry state.

Red blood cells may be stored under refrigeration for a maximum of 42 days, or frozen for up to 10 years. Platelets are stored at room temperature and may be kept for a maximum of five to seven days. Fresh frozen plasma is kept in a stored frozen state for up to one year.

Blood donation has always been such a simple yet so important action people should take.

Skeeter and Bubba?  Maybe.  Maybe.  Sheep no 1 and Sheep no 2 have got zero chance...I'm pretty sure of that.

Rifle shots make two noises if you are being shot at. The first is the sonic boom or “crack” you hear as the bullet passes. The second is the “report” you hear from the firing of the bullet.

Pistols don’t typically shoot a supersonic round so you won’t hear a “crack” as the bullet passes.
Thanks Gravity, the 2 types of rounds that I 100% can identify what they were and they were flying about 6 feet over my head were volumes of 5.56mm NATO rounds which travel at about 3200fps and the 7.62 NATO rounds which travel at 2500-2700fps.  Sonic velocities are roughly  343 m/s, 1,125 ft/s, 768 mph, 667 knots, or 1,235 km/h.  I'm guessing those are STP stats.

That "crack" is what I heard as I was "in the butts" at the CF rifle range lowering, marking and raising targets while the others were firing at the targets.  When behind or at a distance, the "report" is all I could hear.

You are right about the pistol velocities. A suppressor will quieten the "report" of a weapon, it does nothing to muffle the "shock wave" of a supersonic bullet.

Just think the Space Shuttle would travel at 17,500mph or about 25,000fps.  The SR-71 moved at 2200+mph or 3200fps, literally faster than many speeding bullets.

STS sonic booms, especially for you Gravity!

I know they have indices for the average requirements in a given region (town, city, state, etc)...all overages can be transported to where needed.

I dunno, it a hotel with people always carrying or rolling cases.  I think it would be relatively easy.  Heck for all we know, he could have been staying in the same room for days before the incident.

The ammo alone would fit inside a single knapsack.

I just don't see security picking up on anything unless a gross mistake was made. Like a box of ammo falls out on the floor in front of a security guard.  You cant be hassling people staying in your hotel.

The man that did this atrocity had no previous record or a history of mental illness that we know of.  This could happen anywhere in the world.

"No previous history" doesn't mean he wasn't mentally ill or unstable, but more likely, undiagnosed. One would have to have some kind of serious pathology to commit mass murder of innocent people. Incidentially, his father, a serial bank robber who was disgnosed as "psychopathic" was on the FBI's most wanted list, later captured.

Its an open carry place. They have gun fairs and no-one would give a shit. And as you say, a rolling suitcase is easy to shift even if its loaded to the point you can't pick it up.

It is an open carry state but casinos have strict rules and at least some of the hotels do not allow firearms.

Just because a state is open carry, doesn’t mean you can carry anywhere.

But who would question a guy with a rolling suitcase? Unlikely in a hotel that size with so many rooms. The only way they could police it would be scanners in the reception.

I didn't realize its an open carry area.  Thanks!

I always thought that people that open carried would be the first people shot in my mental bank robber scenarios.  If I could carry, I would carry concealed. Or just pull the gauger from behind my seat.
