UPDATE: It was Art. He fucking hated the Truckers and they like Country Music by-and-large. Don't question this. It's a fact. Art finally lost his shit and evened the score with all those working class fucks that were calling into Dark Matter and Midnight in the Desert and asking stupid-ass questions!

That's my thought, 7.62x39 variant with either large beta mags or belt fed weapon. I'm surprised the barrel didn't get hot enough with all those sustained rounds to start cooking off. We should know more when they locate the shell casings.
The military M60 was an open bolt weapon, the rounds cant cook off, or shouldn't be cooking off due to exposure to a hot chamber. Being open bolt means that the bolt is retracted in the open position until the trigger is pulled, then the round isn't chambered until  the trigger is pulled, the action moves forward thus delinking and chambering a round then its about to fire when the pin hits the primer, whereas a closed chambered weapon, like the M-16 has a round in the chamber the entire time after the cocking handle has been actuated with a loaded weapon.
Belt fed weapons can and do "run away" meaning that they continue to fire event after the trigger is released.  The immediate action is to twist off the ammo link thus causing the weapon to cease firing due to ammo depletion.

There is no reason to swap barrels in this type of assault as you are wearing away the Stellite lining of the barrel after a certain temp is reached. The wear rate is markedly increased above this temp. The barrel changes are only to ensure long term accuracy/reliability.

I just heard some breathless rookie on Fox say, "most of those injuries are going to be headshots, which as you know, are impossible to treat"

Also impossible to treat: my sides.

Lord Grantham

QuotePolice initially sought a woman believed to be Paddock's roommate, Marilou Danley, as "person of interest." Detectives later made contact with her, and "do not believe she is involved with the shooting on the strip."

QuoteFederal law enforcement sources told Fox News that Paddock "was known to local authorities" in Vegas, and multiple weapons were found in his hotel room.

QuoteThe gunman, who fired down on the Route 91 Harvest Festival from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, was killed by police.
Explains the headshots.

50 dead 400+ injured.

Deadliest shooting in US history.

The clip I heard had at least a 10 second almost sustained burst.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-Y1jMgqABM

M249 SAW-5.56mm NATO
FF to 43 seconds for firing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za0tAfzEXs4

M60-7.62mm NATO
FF to 22 seconds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X517Utblb00

I dunno both rates of fire are close.

Craziness. Best wishes to all involved including the Code Orange that I'm sure is going on at the local healthcare institutions.

Sheriff says the shooter killed himself. Says the woman was found overseas. Shooter was using her credit cards and ID.

Where did you get the 200 dead figure?  The reports I see are saying 50 dead, 406 injured.

Lord Grantham

If it was a chain fed automatic weapon that's very strange. If someone is going through the process of getting a Class III license and paying thousands of dollars to purchase the weapon they don't ted to be spree killers. In fact, I don't think it's ever happened until now.

I am not insinuating a conspiracy. Just pointing it out.

Of course not! (I'm with you on the conspiracy aspect  ;))

Sorry, I made a mistake, I had 200 in my head, rounds of 5.56 in a box, old injury counts etc.  My apologies.
You are correct 50 dead.

No problem, man.  Just wondering if you knew something I didn't. :D

Good points, if it was an M60, we are talking about a $40,000 weapon, with some mods going for over $60,000.

I just cant think of a magazine that would provide such sustained fire. A 10 second sustained burst would have approx. 65 bullets going downrange.  Deduction leads me to a belt fed weapon being used.  But reports mention 8 "rifles" were found.

True to form, my former news media friends on Facebook are already blaming the mentally ill and the NRA.

Fox is now showing two broken out windows on the 32nd floor.

8 illegally modified AK pattern rifles with drum magazines?

What, not Trump?  They could at least fall back to this dude.

Erm, will this be a terrorist incident? Police say he had quite a few firearms in the hotel room, fortunately they're not connecting that with the casualties. Nothing to see, he wasn't a Muslim.

Yeah, absolutely no connection with having firearms in the possession of possibly the mentally ill would result in what happened. Nothing. Even though apparently he was known to the police.

National Public Radio hours ago announced that it was not terrorism.

Phew, that's a relief. The casualties will be less dead and injured then. Thank goodness. That will be comfort to the friends and families.

He'll turn out to be a Trump-hating, Antifa lefty. Who else would shoot up a country music concert?

Shame on them. I'm sure the shooter was a perfectly stable, well-balanced gentleman and all the background checks or gun laws in the world wouldn't have stopped him. Perhaps he just didn't appreciate country music? It's perfectly understandable. Nothing to see here, move along.

If he hadn't topped himself he could reasonably used that in hs defence. A man can only stand so much stuff about his wife leaving him, or how he sleeps in the wide open spaces chewing baccy.

I'm glad the shooter wasn't black or muslim.  Your crowd would be shouting it from the rooftops.

As Richard Pryor related about his visit to a jail to research 'Stir Crazy' He asked a guy on death row..." Why did you kill everyone in the house?" Answer? "They were home".

Maybe he wanted to get some sleep, and if say Anthrax had been playing it would have been worse. Be thankful it was only 50 dead.
