Do y'all believe in Spontaneous Human Combustion? It was mentioned that two people caught fire in unexplained ways. I've seen pictures of People that supposidly were victims of SHC. In one of the pictures the chair was burned and there were only two lower legs left of the Person. the rest of the room wasn't burned

Scully

It's been repeatedly well-documented, yet unexplained over the years.  I have no reason to doubt these situations exist.

Usagi

However well-documented this may be, Jorch seems to think it's caused by Satan opening a pit from hell.

How - what is the term he used?  - ah, yes, "brizarre"

Scully

If anyone would know, it would definitely be Jorch.

But since he's the one who adds the aura of mystery to tha show, he may be just messin' with us.  ::)

Nah.  That would be truly "brizarre"      :P

I wonder what the body type of the man was. Seems I've read that some researchers wonder if obesity or body type is involved in SHC.

i feel like a pig shat in my head.

Had a big night, did we? Hope you drank plenty of water before trying to stop your bed from spinning.

Nothing like unsolicited drinking/hangover advice, particularly when it's after the fact, but in my clubbing days I did two things which cut way down on my bad mornings after: I drank cold vodka neat, and I alternated drinks with a glass of water. Plus as much water as I could hold before going to sleep. Even if I got pretty hammered, never a hangover once I started doing that.

Err, not that it helps you today.

ziznak

They used to think it was an alcky or a smoker thing but haven't they dropped these early diagnosis for some other life ending event + small fire + wick effect = SHC?

My formula is vodka tonics with extra lime, lots of water, an aspirin, and a B complex vitamin before stumbling into bed.  It works pretty well.  I'm prone to awful hangovers, some lasting days, so I have to be very careful and nip it in the bud.

that's exactly right.  the minute i decide i'm done drinking, i chug as much water as i can hold.  i do that again just before going to sleep.  prevents problems every time.

hangover is simply dehydration (alcohol makes you pee out massive amounts of water) and the resulting difficulty your body has in flushing all of the toxins out.

such a simple fix.

Does lighting your own farts count as spontaneous human combustion?

Yes, I've read of this too.  Something about the fat in one's body creating the wick effect, and that it happened more to women.

ufogadfly

From all that I've heard and read the wick effect theory has not been convincingy proven. Nor has any other.

I have a feeling its real because there is so many documented cases world wide.

George Drooly

Noory can't even rub two brain cells together, what the fuck would he know about spontaneous human combustion?

Juan

My favorite human combustion story was in the Weekly World News.  It was the same issue that trumpeted a headline "Baby Born Talking: Gives Father Winning Lotto Number."

the episode of the xfiles with the guy who can make people combust was awesome
