i think an 'overthrow' at this point would just move the seat of power to the pentagon. and then we'd really be fucked

How in the heck can we overthrow the government when we have more important issues at hand... Like gays in the military, the war on christmas, illegal aliens... just shoot me... please.

what's with the obvious schizm between reality and how people vote in this country?  are we asleep at the wheel?

We are so drunk-sedated-hypnotized-distracted that we fell out of the car several miles back and the car is still going full speed ahead.

We as a nation have been so manipulated into thinking that there are good thinkers and bad thinkers. We have been trained to vilify anyone not in our respective groups. It appears that civil discourse only happens when physical harm is about to happen.

Like I said, nonsense.
I have various meats, some of which I've had for years. It is the result of a little craft I do called meat curing and dehydration. I've done this with sun drying and with the use of controlled dehydrating equipment. Not just meats. I have several pounds of blueberrys that are a decade old.

Without enough moisture, organic material cannot sustain the various micro-organisms. No moisture... decay stops. One of the three primary factors that affect decay is water. Water is needed as a means of transport for the enzymes produced by the bacteria that in turn convert material into something the cells can absorb. Purdy basic Biology.

Chloroform as one of the ingredients? Come on. Its variants are so heterogeneous, I could take a month explaining the basics. However, considering that several of those variants are forms of nerve gas, I won't be doing any such. In it's most abundant form, it is completely natural in our planets atmosphere. As well as the other listed Organochlorines. The primary generation of these chlorines is our oceans. You would be amazed at the action of Sea Spray Aerosols production of much of our atmospheric chlorine. Purdy basic Biochemistry.

Granted, I wouldn't want to be rehydrating one of those burgers any more than I would King Tuts mummy just to have with my refreshing beverage and fries.

BTW most fast food products stored in frozen form are freeze dried. When something is freeze dried, almost 100 percent of the water is removed during primary drying. Now I'm purdy sure that Mister Tut wasn't freeze dried. Then again... I am sure Snoory has had a guest suggesting as much...  8)

If all this fails with respect to explaining why I said "nonsense" to your post.... try dumpster diving at Micky Ds.

...sleepy now....

I am quite impressed with your knowledge. It does exemplify why hyperbole is a poor position to frame an argument. I do have to ask however, Is no one alarmed that a sandwich is more akin to a mummy than a meal? Look, there are many reasons to both admire and condemn Mcdonalds; but to suggest that the "additives" are merely different versions of sea water may not paint a completely accurate picture... anymore than listing every carcinogen known to man does.

I can say this... Mcdonalds (imho) makes a few tasty sandwiches. Atleast I think so when I haven't had anything to eat that day. Should we as consumers be wary of additives to our foods? probably. I am getting long in the tooth and I have eaten a buttload of Mcdonalds in my life; is my health great? no but I can't place the blame on any one choice.

I guess my point is Mcdonalds isn't evil but it may well be indifferent and that position can be harmful too. The old maxim of "let the buyer be ware" works well when the production is within one's observation but when that ability is not there, wariness may need the addition of hyperbole to smack some into awareness.

Snoory couldn't get his head around any of this.

now THIS is some scary shit.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:SN00510:@@@L&summ2=m&

I do not claim to know much about this bill. I think the wording "the most dangerous bill" is more hyperbole than it is enlightening.

I also have reservations about bias in a website called food freedom that decries there is evil packed into a paragraph. Nor do I think that the words used imply a meaning not there to be " they will be able to easily criminalize seed banking".

Should we as citizens be concerned about legislation? Absolutely. But I have been around the block enough times to understand that because some use the term natural and/or organic doesn't deify them or their positions/products.

I do not mean this reply to be argumentative. I plan to do quite a bit more reading on this over the next few days. I must confess however that I have had many discussions over the years regarding the lack of regulation over so-called health products and "supplements". With that being my experience I have a bit of a "knee-jerk" reaction to proponents of less control over anyone that offers products for health and nutrition.

I like most westerns. I do agree with your opinion of Lonesome Dove. Epic it is and I still find myself quoting one or two of Duval's lines on a reguar basis.

Sounds crazy, wonder if Glenn Beck would make a great host on C2C? I know, I know. I'm just bored tonight.

I think Beck is a hyperbolic panic-pandering talking head that would have a difficult time stating a fact.

That being said he is still miles ahead of Noory. Noory doesn't have the ability to complete sentences (intelligent ones, anyway).

RE: failing infrastructure -- I keep seeing this pop up in various places and it almost paints the picture of the US ca. Ukraine 1960, like we're all driving Trabants and our state-sponsored housing sits next to some acid runoff from a mining operation. If infrastructure were so important, I don't think the 700+ billion stimulus would've gone into garbage like studying the mating songs of sperm whales, covering state budget deficits, union slush funds and bank/wall street bailouts. I don't think most conservatives would take issue with 'radical' ideas like building highways and bridges (which really should be handled by state appropriations, but that's another story).

I am not sure if you are denying there is an infrastructue failing in this country or just trying to deflate the point. I suggest looking at these articles... just to start...

This 3% tax issue reminds me of a recent slide I saw on a website -- we've all seen them: top 20 places to move, 20 celebrity liberals, 20 slimming foods, etc. The one I saw was 20 musicians that went bankrupt.

The 3% is the amount of increase that is being discussed for those making over 250,000 a year. What your point is, I am not sure.

I can't think any of their personal finance problems were because CD prices needed raised 3%, or royalties 3%, or ticket prices 3%. You can give an addict a 13% or 33% bump and that surplus is getting snorted, toked or smoked. It's not a revenue problem, it's mismanaged spending.

Not seeing the necessity for tax rates that actually pay for the programs alrerady in existence is myopic at best and demented at worst. To think that we can cut taxes and increase governement spending is going into the realm of magical thinking.

Stimulus bill -- Tennis courts in Bozeman, MT. An area that can sustain an active tennis season (*snort*) of, what, 4 months? Some roads in western MT aren't even open/completely plowed until mid-May. I wouldn't invest in tennis courts in MT. Would you?

I grew up in Montana lived there for over 20 years and yes those backwoods-igloo-living-snow-eating-never-liked-the-sun-anyway folks actually play tennis too. But to point out straws to break isn't really helpful and may even be intellectually dishonest.

I wouldn't give a smart relative/trusted friend 3% of my pay for a dumb investment, why would I give a dumb government 3% for a dumb investment? It shouldn't be maddening that we have a debate where all of our money is going to.

This is tough to argue with because you have laid out an unprovable argument--Is the governement dumb or not? Well at any given moment in someone's day I could probably make a case for mental incompetence. I am a forensic psychiatric nurse... trust me I could. But the fail safe is that in the overall context most people perform above those criteria. The same can be said for the government.

re: loss of manufacturing -- bipartisan blame to spread all around, but since we're discussing nails in coffin, Richard Nixon + Bretton Woods 1971 + monopoly money = where we're at today. The world is calling for it now. We need to get back on some sort of sane gold standard.

I find this argument to be misplaced. I am dumbfounded that when a liberal suggests certain things they are attacked with a lack pf patriotism. Well bend me over the barrel cuff my wrists to my ankles and call me Shirley. How unpatriotic is it to move your business to another country and cause the loss of thousands of jobs which leads to communities completely failing. To suggest that moving companies is for survival of said is perhaps partially true but it is not the complete truth.

I don't think Americans have the stomach for it.
You may be right, but I do not have the stomach for what has passed "for the USA's good" in the 8 years prior to Obama.

I am not fond of political debates or discussions laid out in an internet forum. The subtle nuances of speech are lost, no one can really tell what tone is used to make a point and it is difficult (for me) stay focussed when every other post takes the conversation in another direction.

But I too lean democratic in my thinking. I too mostly just try to stay financially afloat year to year. But when I look at where the country has floundered from the late 60's to today I start to hang my head. I blame most of the social problems we are plagued with to an economy that has moved from manufacturing to service.

I find it maddening that we are in a national debate about a tax rate being raised on those making over 250,000 a year by 3%. During the years that our economy was dynamic and the shining star of the world that tax rate was at 91% in the 50's and 70% in the 70 percentile. So today the majority of those that decry the evil's of a tax rate that does not even affect them are putting coffin nails into our already failing infrastructure.

Someone probably said "getting you(GN) to ask an intelligent question is like pulling teeth."

Kaku for my money is the best guest by leaps and bounds and could listen to him and or Sean Carrol almost every night.

The worst by far imo is a guy named Turi... calls himself a doctor because he has an honorary (self-purchased doctorate of divinity).

Art bell may be an asshole, may have been a real life jerk to his family and if he was my neighbor I would probably not spend much time with him. But that isn't what I care about with respect to late night radio. I cant be the playground monitor for anyone other than me. Art Bell for whatever the circumstances created a talk show that more times than not was interesting. Was he rude? perhaps but I never really noticed anything that would leave emotional scars. Noory on the other hand is much worse than rude, he is uninterested in his guests and I would suggest that he isn't all that interested in his audience either. Speaking in broad generalities Noory is a boob on his best days and a rectal sphincter on the other days.

I don't think that C2C has an agenda to dumb down America now that Bell is gone. I mean really the audience that listened to Bell had a few "less than Einsteins" in the mix... be honest. The difference - in my way of thinking - was Art and the show were one and the same. Noory thinks this is his chance to be more than he is and I am afraid he is way over his head.

I happened to find this guy Rick Wood.

More intellectual than others I have listened to but his show is only an hour and although weekly sometimes its much more than a week between shows

I just watched "SpyGame" with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. It was on Encore. dont remember the year think it was made in 2001 Liked it.

What I would recommend is an independent film from last year... got very little notice... I caught it on Hulu a few months ago. Ink is the title, spooky, thoughtful, some humor and a good couple of tender moments.

I find it hard to be considered crude if first one is obscure. But Onan as my handle was actually derived from a comedians bit about too much talking... He talked so much he had to join a 12 step program called onandonanon...

Thank you for the welcome. I have on ocassion read several posts and found many of them to be quite well thought out--with what I consider just about the right amount of critical thinking.

After 208 pages of posts on Noory's inability to pronounce words correctly, I doubt I could add anything compelling to the already established position that GN is a floating turd in a punch bowl.

I have a hard time conceptualizing any reason why he is still listened to. I guess desperation comes in many forms.

Every couple months I rejoin C2C-s monthly plan to download some files of other hosts, when they have an interesting guest on. I try to find Art's interviews that meet my interests. But I find Noory to be such a vapid blathering host that even hearing his introduction causes way too much irritation to let him continue.
