Looks like a good guava season.  Perfect timing. I just defrosted my last bag of guava nectar to mix with green tea. Refreshing during a Santa Ana

You clearly understand how business works.

Why would a guy who owns a catering business go to another catering business he doesn't own to cater his event? That's stupid.

Yes, I do.

A con only works if the people being conned don't know they are being conned. Or they just like it

Trump's campaign paid his businesses $8.2 million
The GOP presidential candidate draws on his own companies to an unprecedented degree

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has paid his family's businesses more than $8.2 million, according to a POLITICO analysis of campaign finance filings, which reveals an integrated business and political operation without precedent in national politics.

The GOP presidential nominee’s campaign has paid his various businesses for services including rent for his campaign offices ($1.3 million), food and facilities for events and meetings ($544,000) and payroll for Trump corporate staffers ($333,000) who helped with everything from his traveling security to his wife’s convention speech...

It's Sep. 24 and I just saw "Countdown to Christmas" on one of those stupid shopping channels.  That's a full three-months lead time now.  That's enough, I've had it, I'm boycotting the whole unseemly production this year.

During my insomnia last night I listened to an archive that was Art and Hoagland discussing the Heavens Gate suicides. Sounded like it had just recently happened. So creepy.
I wasn't listening to Art back then. Did they get their idea to hitch a ride on the spacecraft following Hale Bop from Art's show?

Trump's tax plan is more of the same establishment Republican supply-side economics that's a giveaway to the rich and starves the middle class. His foreign policy is inconsistent and insane. Hillary would probably make a decent, pragmatic president, but she had an email server, and she murdered fifty people but somehow got away with it.

lol. Most cogent political analysis I have seen all year

Hillary Clinton for President - New York Times

"In any normal election year, we'd compare the two presidential candidates side by side on the issues. But this is not a normal election year," the paper wrote. "A comparison like that would be an empty exercise in a race where one candidate -- our choice, Hillary Clinton -- has a record of service and a raft of pragmatic ideas, and the other, Donald Trump, discloses nothing concrete about himself or his plans while promising the moon and offering the stars on layaway." ...

I think Hillary will easily win the debate only because Trump never really learned how to debate without throwing insults and accusations. If Trump decides to go this route, he'll look like a fool. Of course the media will slant it to Hillary's side.If Trump can break away from the set up questions and launch into what he wants to accomplish, he might have a chance.

Then why do I see Donald every freaking time I turn on the tv? Except for the occasional Hillary commercials, which also show Donald every freaking time. Bless you, TCM

I just got this notification.  For all the Gene Wilder fans, this is a must see on the big screen.

"Young Frankenstein"
With a Live Introduction from Mel Brooks

Plus, "Phantasm" Remastered this Saturday and the new "Phantasm V" release next month.

Man, I live for the Fall.  Let the bewitching begin!

Thanks IO. I love this movie so much. Would be so fun on a big screen with an audience.

Which reminds me. Are midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show still a thing?

I don't know what to think when I see claims like this. If he had predicted Carter's defeat it might add credence. The fact he picked Bill Clinton after Bush had a 91% approval rating after the first Gulf war does lend some credence. But you had the Ross Perot factor. I would argue with his assumption that a strong run by Johnson hurts Clinton. I think it hurts Trump more.

The demographics of the country has changed though and it is generally accepted that ANY democrat starts out at 47%.

This cycle is way too far off nominal for the regular models to predict anything. It will be an interesting for election night.

I really can't believe there are 19% undecided voters at this juncture. Just don't believe it. They might not want to go on the record, but 7 weeks out you know who you are going to vote for. IMHO

I agree agree with you, Grav. I know, startling, isn't? Traditionally, many people, unlike us weirdos, wait until after a debate or two to decide. But I don't think this time. The candidates and where they stand ideologically are so starkly different. However there is a large "hold your nose while you vote" contigent. But I would think even most of them have made up their minds

I welcome spiders in my house for the highlighted reason, and years ago had a pair of wolf spiders that patrolled my walls and liked to hang out behind my amp when I whanged on my guitar while pleasantly self-medicated. Unfortunately, the cat I have now isn't inclined to be charitable to anything she sees scurrying across the floor despite my efforts to convince her to embrace a "live and let live" philosophy. I warn them to be careful, but it just seems to go in one ear and out the other right before they get eaten.  There's nothing you can do about that, because sometimes arachnids are just too darn stubborn to accept help. Praise BP.

Mother Nature still can be a beautiful cruel bitch. Especially when cats are involved

I wonder what people's feelings are about the upcoming debate ??

My feelings:

The sad thing is that debates today are all BS. They are usually asked softball or moronic questions and if it is a real issue, then they read a prepared statement from a teleprompter. They then lace this with stupid insults and jibes thrown in. It's all really bad theater. Read the transcripts from the Lincoln Douglas debates--now that was debating. If they were not allowed to read anything, had no ear pieces and no aides near by whispering answers and would honestly discuss the issues and what they would do to try to fix them then I would watch. Instead I'll watch "Keeping Up with the Khardashians"---it's more entertaining and informative about the state of our society then that debate BS.

Might be worth some comic value. Otherwise, couldn't agree with you more. But instead of the Kardashians, I will be binge watching "True Blood", fast forwarding to the good scenes

Edit: btw Welcome to Bellgab. Post often. Brave gator to start in the Politics section.  If you get hungry, may I suggest the frog legs?

I've always told my kids that keeping arms for the purpose of opposing a fascist government is unrealistic- they've got the Apache helicopters, smart missile delivery, and such. No kids, the real reason to keep and bear arms is because of my socialist, pinko democrat friends who think they're smarter and better than those who politically disagree with them, and who would have you tied up in basement with duct taped mouth if you let them.

Have you ever tried it? It might be fun
