Quote from: brig on March 14, 2019, 11:50:57 PMI'm not even sure how many people use their radios in their cars anymore.  People seem to use their cell phones, and listen to live youtube streams, or their own music collections, through their car speakers while they're driving these days.  I'm not sure this commercial supported radio model can compete these days.
If that's doing badly, I wonder how terrestrial subcarrier FM is doing.  I haven't checked that in many years.

Quote from: brig on March 14, 2019, 10:12:29 PMIt always seemed so RUDE, when Heather would incessantly try to redirect the conversation that the guest wanted to have.  Don't be a Heather, Dave.
But at least Ms. Wade gave the impression of doing so out of knowledge & interest, while Mr. Noory seems to do so out of ignorance & lack of interest.  I'd prefer a Heather to a Snoory.

Quote from: Chocolate coated jackboot on March 14, 2019, 04:23:32 PMYou gotta hand it to Dave, he's taken the very successful Dave Noory C2C model and applied it to MITD
-split show format suits shitty guests, needs minimal show prep and leaves little time for (nonexistent) callers
-lots of side projects like morning zoo sit-ins, yelling-at-ghost tv shows in case the show fails.
-plenty of 3&4 day work weeks and regular weeks off to attend wizard conventions, Alien cons and Rassle-cruises
-have a clown car full of vanilla shitters (that are absolutely no threat to replace you)ready to fill in while you're off on your multiple side gigs/vacations
All while a disinterested management ignores a dwindling listenership
I can't say anything about that last bit, but the rest of the description fits to a T.  I was very enthusiastic about how Mr. Schrader operated until about the past mo., now very disappointing.  Although I've nothing against split-format, and often find it interesting, it is eerily similar to that model.  Last night the sort of show where the m.c. is hardly needed: a live soothsayer taking calls.  So I turned it off.

However, Mr. Schrader hints at an interesting development, for which this may be a mere placeholder.  I sure hope so.

Quote from: VC on February 28, 2019, 01:33:27 PMSadly, we live in an environment of information access that many less intelligent and "programmed brains" cannot distinguish hard facts and reality from belief systems.
Hell, they can't even distinguish official fiction from unofficial fiction!

I won a bet on a character name that'd be introduced into TV serial Lost.  After I won, some people thought there must've been hanky-panky because the name turned out not to be one that a viewer speculated it'd be, since the specul'n had gotten around so widely it was accepted by many as a leak from the makers of the show.

"Vaccine debate gets heated!" & "War for Zion" I hear as Zero Mostel.

Huh...you people saying some of you hear the subject lines as Mr. Noory?

In the Politics section, I "hear", "What are social justice warriors losing their shit about today?" in a weary, not very interested voice.

"dude, weed lol" practically self-delivers.  The voice is laughy but dull-sounding.

"The border is secure" I always hear in the voice of Art Bell doing a commercial.  Even tone on each word except for "The".

"nous nous rendons, nous nous rendons" sounds very earnest & insistent.

"Guns" I hear repeated slowly-to-medium speed as in the Negativland video I brought up there.  Like someone selling them at a bazaar, but not shouting.

"El Chapo free!" I hear as "El Chapo, free!", also at a bazaar, but louder; someone's giving him away as a premium for another purchase.

Quote from: CronkitesGhost on February 12, 2019, 04:49:53 AMThe guest wasn't much better, the entire conversation was about evolution and the guest's only idea is that Darwin's theory isn't correct, he had no real alternative, he wasn't a fundamentalist/creationist, he wasn't pushing extra-terrestrials as the origin of life - just that nobody has done an experiment that conclusively proves evolution. But it did give Jorch another opportunity to offer his 6th grader argument for Intelligent Design 'I've never bought it, that everything is random. The world is too complex, everything fits together. Like there's bread and there's ham, and you have a ham sandwich, without bread we'd just be eating slices of ham and how would your mom put slices of ham in your lunchbox? Somebody or something created the ingredients for bread so we could have sandwiches to survive on.'
You didn't take him literally, did you?  I give Mr. Noory more credit than that!  I hope you realize he was making an analogy.  It's dumb, but not that dumb.

Quote from: DigitalPigSnuggler on February 04, 2019, 07:47:03 PMHave you ever taken gabapentin, or pregabalin?
I took gabapentin for post-herpetic neuropathy in 2012.  However, it was only 300 mg/day, & had I continued w the neurologist we might've increased the dose.  However, my problem was only occasionally lancinating pain, & primarily numbness, paresthesias, & weakness, which it was doubtful the gabapentin would help.  So I discontinued it soon.

The neuropathy slowly improved but never went away.  Last yr. apparently due to anti-inflammatory tx for parainfluenza B, the shingles reactivated, bringing the numbness & weakness back fully, but no pain.

Unadvertised feature of herpes zoster: it can affect motor neurons, not just afferents.  Enough in my case to produce some muscle atrophy.

Quote from: Catsmile on January 29, 2019, 03:24:30 AMSolo show hosting talent onna microphone wasn't it, 3 solo years stands as its own testament. IMO Heather was much better as a co-host, or part of an ensemble like she was on those other "little shows".
That's what I always thought, & I observed at the time that most of the shows I liked on DMDN were panel format.  That's still true.  Ms. Wade might even be a good m.c. of a panel show, hard to tell.

You'd think that, as hosts of programs having the subj. matter they had, Mr. Bell & Ms. Wade would've learned not to take everything seriously!

Better cucks than cacks.

Quote from: Metron2267 on January 10, 2019, 01:26:54 PMArt had timing, touch, intuition - a genuine feel for his audience. Dave is just so perfunctory and businesslike that there isn't really any room for magic, plus it never feels to me like he has the element of actually being surprised by his callers. Art mastered that nuance and it let the rest of the audience go into campfire tale mode too.
Then I guess I'm Mr. Schrader's perfect audience.  I never missed that nuance, & I guess I just go for perfunctory & businesslike.  Just recently I was listening to his show & thinking, he reacts just as I would.  It's like he puts me there.

Quote from: Metron2267 on December 31, 2018, 04:21:36 PMMichael Vandeven/MV/Liberace is the progenitor of this board.

Michael T. Vara is the founder of the LNM network and a former host on the DMDN.
Those things I've got, although I keep forgetting it's Vandeven, not Vandever; I easily mix up a lower-case n with r if I'm not hearing it pronounced frequently; and I didn't know, or forgot, he's Liberace too.

What I'd like is a way to know which of the two "MV" means.

Can we get some particular font here for me to distinguish M. Vandever from M. Vara here?  And are they both Michaels, both Marks, or 1 of each?  Am I even spelling Vandever correctly?

This is like on DumCoach, where "DC single wing" might mean DumCoach's version or Dave Cisar's version.  DumCoach's real name is Clark Wilkins, so at least we've got that.

Probably because some people feel proprietary about the vaguest and broadest of ideas, or the slightest of influence.  Hey, you can't do a Web site like I had, that was my idea!  Hey, you can't get friendly w someone we might have criticism of, it could cool the atmosphere!

Quote from: username on December 25, 2018, 10:16:45 PMwe do know is that as soon as this place was shut down he quickly ran and put up a mirror form very much the exact same as this one. Aligning with evil, making sure the waters were safe
for his father Keith Rowland. there are so many other things to add to this list please feel free to list of now and we will revise all these theories later.

Do you feel Bart is a hack piece of shit?
Certainly not, if those are the accus'ns.

Mr. Vandeven, for reason I'm not much interested in, discontinued his fine service in providing this forum.  Many of us were, however, interested in continuing ongoing, and like, discussions.  Mr. Ell provided the means for us to do so, in a format which is off the shelf but made to fit what we were already comfortable or at least familiar w.  Whatever cx he may have w Mr. Rowland & his fine programming could be only to our benefit.

Now let's unite vs. the common enemy: Bad Radio.

But.. I'm live and let live. Life is hard, if Heather has ambition I would never do anything to stand in her way. Or put a other way, cause her any pain with hateful and despicable posts.
IMHO it is and was unexcuseable behavior; the relentless thrashing of her since Art's death.
What part of that thrashing did she not "earn" by her own standards?

Are there people actually trying to stand in her way?  Or do they just have fun razzing her?

She took the worst possible lesson from Mr. Bell: how to make up a thoroughly bogus excuse.  What she did not learn was how to turn it into an intriguing story of mystery and get audience sympathy.
