George likes to say he has a face for radio, but sounds a little pissed when someone agrees with him.

Are you sure you're not confusing him with Ian Punnett?

Today (or tomorrow, not sure) on The Current (a CBC radio show that is mostly non science)

Wednesday, September 24th

Coming up Wednesday ... a special documentary, Allison's Brain. In 2012, Allison Woyiwada discovered she had a life-threatening brain aneurysm. It had to be operated on. The ensuing brain surgery nearly killed her... but it is her remarkable recovery through music therapy which has neuroscientists discussing - and debating - her case.

I believe I heard an ad for it that said it was coming up on tuesday.

http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/

Anyway, this is the show supposedly airing tuesday:

Coming up Tuesday .... Back in the 1960s, Stanford psychologist Walter Michel came up with the famous "marshmallow test." To test self-control in preschoolers, researchers would leave the children alone in room with a marshmallow. The kids were told they could have two marshmallows if they didn't eat the first one... all they had to do was wait a few minutes. Decades later, the kids who were able to wait for the bigger reward tended to fare better in life. More than 40 years after the marshmallow test was born, Walter Michel shares his thoughts on the importance of self-control... and how it can be learned.

For fans of SCTV, Andrea Martin was on Q with Gian Gomeshi today on CBC.

I loved SCTV too, especially the Mike's Mercenaries sketch.

That said, I think this is the best representation of Noory's cluelessness mixed with arrogance:

The numbers are dropping more & more with each passing month. Rightfully so, when the host uses such lines as "We are going to have a little nip in the air with final phone calls."

To be fair to George, the numbers obviously vary every night and sometimes he probably does top 3 million listeners on occasion.  I don't think you can fault him too much for claiming the highest figure.

Now, if what you say is true that Art used to get 10 million listeners, (and I have no reason to doubt you) then I have to agree it does make you wonder why Premiere keeps him.

"Personally, I am very much impressed with Premier Radio and think they deserve applause for their support of the disabled community.  For them to allow a man not only with severe mental retardation, but also a debilitating speech impediment to host Coast to Coast for so long is surely a noble thing.

'Murica I'm proud of you!

I may have made this observation before, as I am sure others have, but it bears repeating.

It's really a brave business stance, I think, to take that sort of risk, one would think a guy with severe mental retardation and a debilitating speech impediment would be a risky move business wise..."

This post is an insult to people with severe mental retardation.

"Yep, last night David mentioned "The Postman" had the bad luck of coming out the same week as the blockbuster "Titanic"

This is probably a little known fact:  "Titanic" actually didn't do great in its first week. So, Dave's excuse of why his film bombed actually doesn't really hold water, though I'm sure he comforts himself with it.)

This was "Titanic"'s first week gross: $28,638,131     which would translate to something like $40-45 million today.  That's certainly solid but nothing spectacular.  A blockbuster these days will open with between $75-100 million.  To be sure, major films open in more theatres now, but that wouldn't account for the difference.

"Titanic" just happened to stay at #1 for something like 12 weeks, sometimes increasing its gross over the previous week, which is virtually unheard of.

BTW, David Brin's film "The Postman" did  $17,626,234 at the boxoffice in 1997 on a production budget of $80 million.

Oh Dear. Paul Hellyer is on monday's show.  He's already admitted he learned nothing about UFOs during his time as Canada's defense minister and all his knowledge comes from Phillip Corso's book.

Beyond Belief, I volunteer at a library sorting room for the "Friends of the Library" and there was a book there called something like "The New Physics" about ESP.  Sorry can't remember the title exactly.

I did find this website though: http://www.williamjames.com/Theory/PHYSICS.htm

Actually, non-local consciousness has some advocates in the scientific community.  One of the better books I've read on the subject is "Consciousness Beyond Life" by Pim van Lommel, M.D.  I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in the topic.  It goes beyond anecdotal tales and goes into the science that might explain how consciousness may be more than the result of electro-chemical reactions in the brain.

Technically, an MD isn't a scientist.

That said, electrical engineer Dr Dean Radin is an and physicist Dr Claude Swanson are scientists and both promote non-local consciousness. Both have been on C2C.

Dean Radin wrote "Entangled Minds" and Claude Swanson wrote "The Synchronized Universe"
Canadian geneticist Dr David Suzuki also explored the topic on his "The Nature of Things" tv show.

Thanks for the welcome.

Quirks and Quarks is a mainstream science show.  But, they used to do the more 'out there' stuff.  I have a program on cassette tape somewhere where they discussed the Betty Hill 'Star Map' seriously.
