Schrader should have more than suggested it.  The principle guest from last night, Russ Kellet, was one of the goofiest bastards I've ever heard.  He sounded like some bovver boy character from the old UK "Carry On" films.  If "They" had hand picked some nitwit to discredit ufology and one of the more intriguing UFO cases of the 70s, Kellet would be hard to beat.

Not to get into this too deeply, but once again I'm amazed at how little understanding many of the UFO "researchers" have about things military, even when such understanding is critical to the case they are investigating and the story they are trying to relate.  For example, how many times did Kellet say there were "battleships" (British, US, NASA)  in the RN flotilla involved in the Berwyn Mts incident?  There were no operational battlerships anywhere in the world in 1974, and of course NASA never had a battleship.  Flash bombs?  What does that mean?  There are flash bangs, used often to stun bad guys, particularly in hostage rescue situations.  They would be useless for illumination purposes.  There are also high intensity flares, including those dropped by a/c and fired from warships, used to illuminate a wide area at night for military purposes.  I think that's what he was referring to, but to claim more were used on that one night in 1974 in the Irish Sea than in all of WWII is unbelievably stupid.

I don't know which is more frustrating to me, the number of no talent boobs who have their own UFO/paranormal radio and TV programs or the seemingly endless number of scammers, delusional mental cases, and/or idiots they get as guests.
yes! (Applause)

Probably me.  I also asked about YouTube's 60fps change coming up too.
But I promise I wasn't trollin.  It was my first time calling. Figures I'd pick the time to call when the chat room gets wacky haha.I have never heard this particular call of his before. It's no surprise that I can detect his grandiosity right away.  Good times.    Thanks for posting that wr250
right, thanks. I was just curious because I remember a little flap about a month ago where possibly someone's personal information may have been partially revealed or nearly so. Was just curious. No, no, I didn't think you were trolling at all.

Rereading the ringworld series, Larry Niven. Just finished book one yesterday. Great fun getting lost on the huge ringworld! And the assortment of imaginative characters.

I blame that damn fidget I bought.  I think it opened a troll portal.
I agree with your point about the movie "what dreams may come" and the book. Exciting and evocative.

Was wondering who that second Michael was that called that was talking to Curtis. You guys didn't introduce him. It wasn't the one also known as Orson (Jackstar) I don't think but it sounded like him. This Michael called after JackStar was let go.

I enjoyed the show. Granted, the chat room was disruptive.

Just caught the last gabcast.  A few follow-up notes:

I got all of the 70's shows but the first one, Charlies Angels, but I guessed Police Woman - so I think that's close enough for credit right?

Jazmunda, your comment that you plan to have your earthly remains scattered in Pahrump - well I almost shed a (manly) tear to that.

Maureen & (Redacted) - Great ghost stories.  Would love to hear more bellgabbers call in with any experiences like that.

(R) as UC mentions above your description of the robe reminded me of Franciscan monks which certainly seems not implausible around that time and region.  Perhaps he was someone who gave services at the cemetary and/or was maybe even a kind of part-time groundskeeper when not doing his religious duties?

Actually your story reminds me of my one and only ghost story, which happened to me around the same age, and when I was also with a friend of mine.  We had wandered off late at night up on a deserted trail in the woods, to find a cool remote spot to, um, partake in similar herbal recreation activities as you were.  It was like way past midnite and there are no homes or anything out there, and no reason for anyone really to be there.  We came around a bend in the tree-covered trail and there off in the distance, we were both shocked to see a young woman, in a white flowing dress (almost looked like a weding dress), who came out of the woods onto the trail, stopped, turned and looked towards us sort of plaintively, stood there still for a moment, and then raced back into the woods on the other side of the trail.  As you described in your experience we were both glad the other was there to confirm that the other one saw it and we weren't crazy.  She was totally silent, and had this eerie whitish translucent quality about her, and she seemed somewhat in a hurry for some reason.  I've never forgotten it, and never seen anything else like it since.
great story! Jeabo, did you happen to read my post several weeks ago about my experience with the Ouija board? I think most people didn't see it because it got buried in a fleeting thread, something about Ouija boards and possession was the title but I believe the word possession was misspelled in the threads subject line. But I'm a skeptic and my story was absolutely true. So when I hear stories like yours abve I'm not as full out skeptical as I used to be.

I just read this article yesterday.  I guess there "are no coinshidenshes".  Anyway you might find it interesting, I did.

thanks. Sadly, my iPad crashes when trying to go to that link. Is it something you could paraphrase?

By the way, lots of thought-provoking posts in this thread. Starting with Robert above where he tries to engage stellar on a pragmatic level. I tried that once in a similar thread and had the same disappointing results. But I admire Robert for trying. I've come to realize that stellar is probably coming from the perspective of what is called a "mystic," so centered and wrapped in his/her own worldview that s/he can't communicate pragmatically. (Outside of that paradigm) so I should be more understanding. I'm sorry to have lashed out a few times in the past. It's just that I get so frustrated when talking to religious people because they won't meet me halfway and think honestly about my questions and issues. For example, a bottle stellar mostly regurgitates indoctrinated material. It's like trying to talk to somebody who's been thoroughly hypnotized.

Yesterday I was imagining this immense universe with its hundreds of billions of galaxies each with its hundreds of billions of suns (hell, the M 87 galaxy has over three.5 trillion sons itself). And that's just our own space time continuum. Evidently there are infinite space time continuums. And then, as part of this thought experiment, I imagine that mankind did not exist. I immediately realized it isn't all about us. Because we are just one speck of a planet on a minor backwater arm of one galaxy. Frankly, I'd be stunned either way, whether there was a God or there wasn't. Moreover, why is there something instead of nothing?

Is there anywhere to watch that online? I checked Hulu and Netflix, but it's not there.
i'm watching it on cable on FX channel. Or if you had "on demand" from Comcast you could watch all five episodes that way.

Did any of you watch "the naked spur" on TCM the other day? (1953) James Stewart, Robert Ryan, Jeanette Leigh. if so, What were your impressions? The cable Guide rated it four stars. This is the one where Stewart goes out to bring back Robert Ryan for the $5000 bounty.

Also, on a different note, am really enjoying the series"the strain". In the first episode an airplane lands and everyone on board is dead. On the other hand, "under the Dome" is still stumbling along in season two.

Mr. Bassett is anything but succinct. It was only an hour long show and I didn't think I was going to make it. I felt a growing sense of impatience with a sense of his grandiose delusions. And sweeping generalizations. but, I will enjoy the outcome throughout November and December either way. Either his plans will come to fruition and he will be vindicated or nothing will happen and we can watch his plans fail.

The main flaw I find with his whole theory is that our government or Congress is at all able to hide an extraterrestrial presence. They could make themselves known anytime they want to. A "truth embargo" is irrelevant… More than that, impossible.

And Bateman, I thought you and I were both running out of patience at the same time toward the end when he was going into a grandiose summation and you sort of had to push him out the door.:-)

So how do you know when you are done wiping your ass?  Of the five senses, sight is out, obviously.  I'm guessing that hearing plays no role.  Taste, maybe?
if you think you need to see to wipe your ass I don't want to know how you're doing it. Instead of hassling me for your amusement why don't you go take out your penis and larger and play with that for a couple hours.

When you said you were blind, was that trolling as an art form?
when I say I watch something it's just a euphemism, old habits die hard. I also tell people "see you later". But no, I can't see images anymore. I just remember what Loretta young looked like. So when I "watched "the movie, I just listen. But thanks for your concern! And please be careful, if you continue to follow me around the forum and troll like this… well, I don't want you to get banned again. This is thread number three so far. :-)

Watched "Rachel and the stranger",  1948. Robert Mitchum, William Holden, Loretta Young. Pretty hokey I guess. Wholesome. But salad.  I've always thought Loretta Young was one of the most beautiful movie stars. And a damn good actress.

Out west  - Man's wife dies and he hires a woman to help raise his son. No spoilers. But I did notice on IMDb everyone loves it.

thanks for taking the time to upload this link! I was prepared for a good laugh but I was shocked to observe Sharpton acquit himself fairly well. This was the most eloquent and cogent I had ever heard him. And he avoided the brunt of the confrontation with Hitchins by continually redefining the focus of the debate.i.r., not about religion, not about Scripture or the Bible, but solely about the existence of God and any proof for or against. Sort of clever since we all know there is no proof one way or the other for a God. But I have the feeling that Sharpton's advisers prepared him with this tactic.

apologies. I dictate my posts with Siri on this iPad (because I'm blind) and when I'm not looking it substitutes homonyms.

But back to the issue: I was stunned when I read this thread and common everyday words like "per se, milieu, plethora" etc were "pompous " "words that even made some people cringe.

By the way, may I guess that you were born in 1996 or later? The manner in which you pointed out series spelling air… You know. Season posters don't even bother with such. But it did remind me of our modus operandi in high school. Hey! There's another one that everyone can cringe over: modus operandi.
