Heather got the cops involved against Arts wishes, after he told her about the threatening phone call. Art only reported the occurrence to the police because of Heathers actions, but he didn't want any further investigation into the matter. The threatening call happened somewhere around the time his internet connection was vandalized, and the first shooting with multiple shots fired from a car, which rapidly fled the scene.     

As I roughly recall the publicly known timeline reported to us by Art/Heather went something like this... Though I could be wrong. Because it would require me to give way more fucks than I really should over such pulp fiction schlock, IMO. 

-Arts internet connection was "tampered" with preventing him from doing 1 or 2 shows until it was fixed.

-The first shooting with multiple shots fired happened during MitD, Art didn't hear any shots because he was wearing headphones, and doing a show. The next door neighbor heard the shots, and called the police and Art. The neighbor reported hearing multiple shots fired next to the Bells property, the shooter immediately fled in a car. Art put the show on hold playing music. While he checked on his family, they didn't seem bothered enough to call the police, or Art over the occurrence. Art talked to the neighbor an the cops about what happened, said his family and property seemed okay. The music break ended, show restarts. Art proceeds to relay roughly the above.

-The mouse shows up, and disappears just as quickly.           

- Art tells the audience a shadow person story. Stating that a few weeks prior to MitD starting, he saw a shadow person in the studio/guest house. Wherein Art proceeds to conduct a shadow person hunt across his entire compound, Glock at the ready.

- We find out that Art got a threatening phone call demanding he stop MitD or be harmed. Which he didn't report to the police, but did tell Heather his producer. Heather reported Arts phone threat to the Pahrump police. Which forced PPD to follow up on the report. When questioned Art told the cops what they wanted to know, and declined any further investigation into the matter.

-Art hears someone outside the window of his studio/guest house during preparations for MitD. Art opens the door, steps outside into the darkness lit only by a porch light glaring into his eyes. Art catches a quick glimpse of a person disappearing around the corner of the house. Bell takes aim with a Glock, but alas isn't fast enough. Art proceeded to relay said story to the world around an hour or two after it happened. Followed up with Art directing everyone to look at a new post on his Facebook account. Which contained a picture of his Glock with a time stamped hand written post-it note attached. Proving he was ready to take on all who dared. Don't remember if he reported this to the police or not. Maybe someone else knows?

-Art gets "shot" at instantly drops to the ground, takes cover and lies still. Fearing for his life, and his families lives, he proceeds to fire off a light beacon AKA: his iPhone. Rendering the cover of darkness almost useless. Bell contacts his wife using Wi-Fi, so she can call the police. Art didn't have cell reception at the time. (He must have been holding iPhone wrong.) Wife called the police. Wife in a panic scares the otherwise unwitting child. Art and family wait for the other shoe to drop for 10-20 minutes. All the police sirens create even more trauma for the child, many tears were shed that night. Trained professionals rapidly blazing into a sniper/shooter/stalker situation with as many lights and sirens as possible making themselves a target, giving up all tactical advantage. All hands braced for a life and death situation, as they secure and lock down the scene. Then the other shoe drops. "MAYBE IT WAS A FIRECRACKER." Many cops eyes rolled upon hearing that statement. All the manpower and angst brought about to catch a shooter/sniper/stalker. Only to discover a scared old man, who might have panicked over a firecracker going off, on government owned land in the distance. MitD went into reruns for a few nights. We all found out about the incident a few days later. MitD with Art Bell is basically over. 

-Much drama ensued before and after The Global Super Quitting VII. Or is it IX, I can't keep count anymore? Which was mostly fueled and controlled by a successful Marconi Award winning media veteran of radio. Art was fully in control the medium and the message every step of the way, from start to finish.

-Heather is still filling in for Arts MitD, two years on. Mr.Bell assures us Ms. Wade is getting better every day. Art and Heather don't understand why some folks ain't buying what they are selling.

While possible it was more than a shadow stalker. Arts narrative doesn't ring true overall.   

You don't drop dick in the dirt, so afraid for your life you lie there for 10-20 minutes waiting for the police to arrive (terrifying your family in the process). Then once the police are on scene you report that you were shot at. Only to backtrack on your original story. Saying "It could have been a firecracker."

At that point I'm sure the police whiffed the odor of something fishy with the witness report. Huge difference between being shot at, and a firecracker going off in the distance. Art by his own words didn't really seem sure if he was shot at, or heard a firecracker.

You can look at the situation a few ways. One, he panicked when he heard a firecracker, thinking someone was shooting at him. Two, he made up a shooting story, adding in the firecracker narrative to cover his ass from felony charges. Three, maybe... just maybe, he really was shot at, by a stalker. Again, by Arts own words, he himself didn't really seem sure what happened on the night in question.

Some hindsight on the situation, from the outside looking in, goes something like this. Art quits MitD, the same night he was "shot" at, because he feared for his, and his families lives. Put yourself in Arts place using his narrative. Imagine lying on the ground fearing for your life, and your families lives for 20 minutes waiting for the police to arrive. Praying the stalker wouldn't murder you and yours, during his second shooting spree. The police don't find much evidence to help move the investigation forward, which would lead to the stalkers arrest. The unknown armed stalker still remains at large, and has trespassed several times, damaged your internet connection, then conducted two shooting sprees at your private property already...

Fast forward. Not long after Art quit the show, it snowed where he lived, a very rare occurrence. His little girl has never seen snow before. What's the logical thing to do a few weeks after your family survived two shooting sprees? Well of course, you wake your child up, everyone goes outside, at night, around the same place and time of the last two shootings. The landscape brightly lit by snow, play around in the snow, take pictures using a flash. The flash couldn't possibly attract attention a mile away. Wife and child become possible targets of your stalker. Post the pictures on Facebook. High profile, high risk actions weeks after two shooting occurred on the property. These are the actions of a terrified family, whose lives were being terrorized by an armed stalker at large?

Even if you venture into the narrative of Art and the police were trying to bait a trap for the stalker. Incorporating your wife and child into the trap as bait? Oh my!

Why does the stalker narrative shit the bed, then fall flat on it's face? Stalkers in general are obsessed with their victims, beyond the stalkers own control. Stalkers seek to be with and/or manipulate the objects of their obsession. Stalkers who escalate into the realm of gunplay as a means of terror and/or coercion, rarely de-escalate and disappear. Even when the victim capitulates to the stalkers irrational demands. Typically giving into a stalkers demands rewards their behavior, which in turn emboldens them and their demands. Violent stalkers seeking to harm or terrorize their victims are highly determined and dangerous, usually not stopping until they kill their target, or are caught by police. Which leads to the TL;DR at the top of this post.

Also, elderly and disabled people already don't have enough restroom liberty in single stall restroms.  So, if liberty is a primary concern, let's fix restrooms and restroom protocol so that the elderly and disabled can navigate!.  Most people don't realize there are some people with medical conditions who should not be alone behind a locked metal door (as most single stall restroom doors are), or who are not strong enough to navigate the 50lbs of unreasonable resistance tension men install on the top of the door hinge area.  These are people who are well enough to go out alone, who don't need caregivers, but who may need paramedics at times, like epileptics, people on insulin, hypoglycemics, people at high risk for stroke, people weakened by chemo, heart patients, and more.  Locking the single stall door is dangerous for them because they might lose consciousness and need to be found hopefully by the next user, before brain damage or death occurs.  But if the door is locked, no one will find them for a long time.  Most people won't complain to management if a single stall room is locked a long time.  And, to make matters even more vulnerable, some of this population has to, uh, wipe while standing up due to medical conditions, which makes their genitals even more exposed to someone who barges in without knocking first and waiting for an answer. THESE elderly, sick and disabled people would have MORE liberty if restrooms were monitored better and protocols established for navigating unlocked single stall doors.  So, what about that aspect of liberty. 

The door being shut should be enough to make a man knock first and wait for a response.  But most don't.  They exercise "male priviledge" and just barge in, all eyes, and unapologetically.  Sometimes leering at length, sometimes getting angry and blaming the disabled person.  Before being concerned about preserving liberty for healthy girls and women, let's obtain liberty for the aging/disabled population that has every right to leave their homes, yet seldom does for reasons as simple as this.  In Japan, these vulnerable people would be completely safe behind a mere curtain.  Here, they aren't even allotted privacy, although they are behind a heavy, closed, metal door!

I am not saying this just to be contrary.  I miss the old days when elderly people were out in public, when restroom doors didn't have 50lbs of tension on them.  When men and boys knew to knock and wait for an answer if a private area door was shut!

There should be a sex type chip in state identification so we can slide our id into a sex-type id box on live-monitored camera at ladies room doors.  To keep women and girls safe.  I hate to say it, but when a little girl is raped, the sex act is often fatal due to the destruction of tissue between the back and front, which leads to fatal infections from the colon.

The risk of being raped is small, but the stakes are very high:
-Death of a little girl
-Trauma/PTSD
-Impregnation of a minor
-STDs,
-STDs possibly infecting a marriage bed
-STDs infecting a fetus if the victim is pregnant
-Pregnancy
-Pregnancy complicarions
-Abortion (rape is often murder, and i think it should be seriously weighed that if a woman aborts a rape fetus, the rapist should be prosecuted for its murder)
-Child support court issues binding the victim and her current/future husband to the perp (that issue could be improved)
-The high cost of hospital birthing procedures
-The lack of father's DNA or health info for the child's medical records
-Custody issues (hard to believe there are rape custody issues, since the conception occurred during rape, sounds like an automatic restraining order to me.  Someone who violently or coercively knowingly creates a fatherless child, cannot possibly be any role model to speak of).

When I grew up, there was a $250 fine for using the wrong restroom!  I look forward to sex-type scan technology allowing women to safely use a toilet room.  And alarms and cameras in case of breach or tampering.  Restrooms should protect girls and women from violence and coerced impregnation, protecting females at least to the extent that retailers protect consumer goods at the door sensors!

Gourmet Narratives to Soothe the Soul

Whatever happened in London could be a terror attack, or not. If the act was deliberate or accidental, I'm sure it terrorized all the people who were there, not to mention the ones harmed or killed. Much like the deliberate actions perpetrated recently in Las Vegas which terrorized over 20,000 people. Were these actions a Muslim terrorist attack, or organized Muslim terrorist attacks? I don't know, not enough information. Do you know, or does anyone else on bellgab know? Maybe it's simple navel gazing, through our personal biases? ...

I haven't any special love or hate for Muslims, Christians, Jews, or most organized religions. Abrahamic religions have used/use their belief systems to commit heinous acts upon each other and the world for around 2 millennia. Orders bequeathed from upon high. Using God as a shield of righteousness, that protects their mortal souls & conscience from the abominations they've foisted upon Humankind during their brief existence in history. The same religions also unified large groups of people focusing there energies, which helped transform western civilization into what it is today.   

Does that mean all religions are bad, or good? Like most things in life it's not a simple yes or no answer. Most people realize some things in life can't be reduced down into simple narratives. Which one oscillates between as it comforts or offendeds personal expedience. Then using said narratives as a means to cubby hole ideas, facts, and beliefs into some over simplified bifurcated "logic" consisting of black/white, good/bad, right/wrong, us/them. There is much middle ground between these polarized conclusions. Which is where most things tend fall on the spectrum of life. Sometimes things in life don't have a single simple answer, or even have a correct answer. No matter how hard we try to force order into the chaos. Such a notion can be discomforting, or down right scary to some. Which is why they find comfort in answers, any answers. Even incorrect answers are more comforting than no answers at all. 

Life can be brutal and scary at times, and always has been. When our first world existence is slapped in the face with that brutality, it's shocking to our nerfed collective psyche. Which sends all of us reeling grasping for answers, any answers. Seeking comfort, attempting to create order from chaos.

Being attacked from outsiders or "others" is always more comforting than being attacked from within. We are wired to suspect the the former over the latter scenario. Biological imperatives forged eons ago demands we protect the tribe. However, it was much simpler to define who was us and who was them long ago, when tribal sizes were counted in the tens or hundreds.

Being attacked from within is always a far more repugnant notion to consider. Such a notion could lead to thoughts of rot from within the society in which we've forged our identity. Casting doubt not only on our society, but within ourselves. Expedients demands we make a monster out of these rouge elements living among us. Lines get rapidly drawn, defining us from them. This act of segregation is another form of the outsiders or others narrative, which is more comforting to a societies tribal consensus.

Those lines can be any combination of things gender, religion, politics, social status, financial status, race, mental health, to name a few. Once all these lines are drawn, what can we make of such a profile, and how accurate can our conclusions be about that persons real motives? People can create a deceptive narrative for investigations to follow. People lie and deceive each other about their true motives all the time, even in death. How often are these deceptions caught or missed? How often does a profiles conclusions align with someones real underlying motives, once they break from social norms in a blaze of glory? How often is a profile right or wrong? How do you determine if a profile is more or less right or wrong, with only part of the equation? None of these questions can be answered with any high degree of certitude. You have to determine just how much faith and belief you give these methods. Which team, ideology, religion, does any berserker truly belong? Something larger than themselves, a party of one, both, or none?

Demonization or monster narratives as a whole helps to dehumanize the rouge berserkers. Making it easier for society to segregate out those who would dare slaughter their own, after the fact. Which in turn absolves society as a whole. Leading to a collective sigh of relief, and very little introspection. Case closed.

We are all ultimately responsible for our own actions in life. However what roll does society play in creating these monsters as they gestate, if any? They aren't created in a vacuum.
