Friday 10-12 ET. Thanks, y'all.

Excellent. Fridays I'll have 7 hours of solid radio to listen to.

Really ? What's it called. Does it have a name ? What IS the instrument called lucifer ?
I heard that the telescope was named Lucifer years ago. I never verified it though.
Info please
Set me straight. ;) 8) :D

Lucifer is a spectrometer on Mt. Wilson which also hosts the Vatican observatory. They aren't related however.

Nice, I could have listened to that interview go on for hours. Definitely a good guest to have back.

He's from a whole different, totally discredited, era.

That's my big beef with his narrative theories. The "technology" and "structures" he sees in the images derive directly from what 1950's science fiction writers envisioned an advanced society would look like. Atmospheric domes, android heads etc. Hoagland even made the case that the domes on the moon are made of glass which isn't even consistent with 1950's sci-fi, much less the state of 1950's engineering. You have to go back to Jules Verne for that one to fit.

Futurism and sci-fi moved on and Hoagland didn't keep up. As a result, his schtick sounds increasingly antiquated and out-of-touch. It's become self-discrediting.

There is a rather substantial amount of unintentional hilarity in the listening too, you know... The only one who really buys into his bullshit is his crazy-assed stalker.

That's my view as well, the stalker is the only one that really buys it. Bara just rips it off to sell books and the rest of us either just chuckle and say "that's our Richard!" or go into fits of rage whenever the subject comes up. I go into fits of rage myself and am often reduced to a babbling heap hiding under the desk muttering "there are no domes" over and over after an arcology show. Gonna be a rough night for me, it's Pluto night.

That said, Richard's a hell of an interviewer/conversationalist. When he's in Dick Cavett mode instead of RCH mode, the show is phenomenal.

Dammit Rossy, I vant my opera house.

Just kidding, great show tonight.

RCH wrote six operas.

I can see how that went. "I want my opera house!"

Just a reminder Rossy to book Werner Herzog if possible.
#7598
Richard published his first book when he was 14? That must have been a doozie.

See, we slip on the bad side here. ISIS is fucking beheading people Richard and Tim. If any of us went to Northern Syria right now and said what we're saying now, we'd get burnt alive in a cage. Let's not ignore the white elephant in the room here.

I couldn't agree with you more but I don't want corporatism and socialism fucking because it's baby will be fascism which is what we're on the edge of now with our loss of privacy and encroachment of other rights.

Now that's certainly a concern.

I have the choice of insurance companies or the choice to tell them all to go fuck themselves... well until Obamacare. But under socialism you have one system and you don't have a choice.

Not to mention I hate the economics of socialism.

Yeah, except they're in collusion and lobbying the political system. Why the differences between states as far as plans? No free trade among states regarding insurance? How the fuck did that happen? That's un-American and not capitalism. Somehow over the last 40 years we forgot what capitalism actually was and we went with corporatism.

The problem with socialism is the little guy has to trust the big guy to handle his business and make his decisions for him. Fuck that. I don't trust anyone above me, why would I entrust my health care or important aspects of my life to these corrupt fucks that can't even balance the budget? That's retarded.

I'm sympathetic, but whether you're beholden to an insurance company like it used to be, or beholden to a subsidized insurance company like it is now, you're still trusting the big guy. Except the big guy now is not politically accountable. It's just an insurance company.

Bernie is a Social Democrat. Not really a hard Socialist.

Yeah, he's like a transplanted European center-left politician. I wouldn't like to call him a socialist, and I'm on the center right.

We are so blindsided by the fact that Trump is honest, we forget that he is a clown. That really says something about politics. Surprised by honesty.

No shit. Honesty now surprises us.

RCH is talking about Plato's cave.  cool.

Isn't that the truth. It's fun and really relevant.

This guy is starting to play the anti-Semetic card I'm afraid. Used the term "Zionist"

And now we move into the other side of the problem.

i ment the Saudis already having a stock pile, and i do see iran getting a nuke in the next 10 years

Well, an unknown. The Saudis certainly have the money to secretly stockpile.

They have nukes already.  They can use ours.  ;)

Perfectly legitimate point. Indeed.

i honestly think they already have a hidden stock pile, same goes for israel

Israel for sure. Iran, perhaps, we just don't know. That's another problem with the deal, us public have no clue what the realities are in the intelligence community. We don't get to see the intel that Obama and the politicians all see.

Only words man.  ;) ..all politics.  Our elections are coming up. Everyone's hair will be set on fire by rhetoric.  Of course this will be a hot button regarding the deal.  Iran has the second largest population of Jews in the middle east.  I worry less about Iran than I do Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Well, that's politics and religion. Of course there is no basic reasoning to it, it's more about emotion. That's human politics in any country. I would be very worried about Saudi Arabia getting nukes, there is an undercurrent there as far as religion that scares me.

Happy you are all enjoying him! I did a lot of searching to find him haha he hasn't done a ton of radio interviews.

Totally thought-provoking from point to point. And Hoag's doing a fine job.
#7614
Yes, but Iran screams at the top of its lungs a lot that it wants to destroy Israel and the US is the great Satan. I mean, probably not a good idea to ignore that, since, well, they keep publically screaming it even while the deal is being made.

Bump this. You never know what to expect. Could be anything. I love that.

Pope Francis is trying VERY hard, the banking situation he's changed has improved the church positively dramatically.

Yeah, but how long do you think he'll last before a "heart attack" like John Paul I? I like the guy, but he's really pissing off the cardinals.
#7617
Ratzinger. Pope Benedict XVI. Had one hell of a resume to get that job. Member of the Hitler Youth, Grand Inquisitor of the Holy Roman Church . . . at least he liked beer.
#7618
LOL! Well, we now know the Braaps phone has a tape answering machine from 1988 attached.
#7619
*chuckle* whistling past your ass without the benefit of the tap. Definitely Irish.
