He called in once and either the settings on his computer were wrong- or he was calling from somewhere he did not have access to software to "help" his voice.  The fact is that while he has a deep voice, it became quite apparent that he has a little extra help from technology.

I would be interested to see if there is any youtube video of him live at a woo woo con or something where he as to go "au naturel."   And yes- his ego damn near matches Trump's.

It probably has something to do with mic processing. I think Stern sounds a lot deeper when he's in his own studio than he otherwise does, for example. I'm not going to claim any expertise on this, but that's my first thought.

Anyhow, I saw that Jason Callan got a new haircut. I was told it was a gift from Kathy. See his new "On the road" video.

She also shaved him 'down below' and he returned the favour, although he needed to use a lawnmower.

I'm pretty sure that Senda's misguided mystery benefactor has now been repeatedly inboxed with a list of his ailments, his multiple deaths, his bad dad, his demonic bitch of a mother ("she bought me so many clothes I couldn't shut the closet!!") and his hellacious warthog of a girlfriend/sister. All capped off with a request for a 'donation' to get him to Alien Con, which is NOT the same as begging.

Has Senda's litany of decrepitude now grown to include a paralysed foot? I don't remember him mentioning it before, and it's never stopped him waddling off to Safeway for the day's nourishment, usually starting with half a dozen WeightWatchers TV dinners and a couple of kielbasas and then going on from there.

The Falkie leaks are awesome.  That's the stuff he should be putting out on video, not this other crap - short rants about Bellgab, people he met that day who annoyed him, personal stories that would embarrass anyone else, his views on women and sex, his views on race, the glories of living off the system, the various begging schemes, health complaints, Kathy, Patty...

It's a shame he doesn't drink, we need him a little less inhibited...

It's ironic that he calls this place 'SewerGab' after the stuff we've heard him come out with over the last couple of weeks. He ought to be hired by Trump to advise him how to do damage control after DT's latest gaffe. "Don, just do a few videos about what you bought from Safeway and they'll forget all about it".

Senda's such a hopeless case. When you think his videos can't possibly get any worse, he films himself pulling tins of cat food out of shopping bags for what felt like an hour. He should ask for advice from Jason Callan; that guy really knows how to get it done, and he's likeable too. Where Callan has a legion, Senda has a couple of weirdos jerking themselves off in a tent. He can't have much longer to live; surely one more turkey kielbasa and he'll burst apart. I only hope he catches it on camera.

Fuck Senda with an electric eel.

This is BellGab. What's more, it's the Falkie thread, where stuff like this is par for the course. And I'm guessing you don't have your trousers round your ankles while you're flying your gliders (oh, there I go again!). He doesn't have to post here, so he obviously likes the attention. If he didn't he could go somewhere else and nobody would know, or say, anything about him. He's like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. He has provided great entertainment value and I wonder if we could entice Falkie to return if we all chipped into a "Falkie Come Back" fund run by someone trusted that would buy him a new Ipad if he came back onto the board ??

He's much more fun when he's not around. When he's here we get long, rambling posts that most people skip over, if they have any sense. A little Senda goes a long way, believe me. He has no sense of humour, so he's not the sort that can play along and get the joke, which makes it even funnier. But his presence isn't essential here, or even desirable. I know some would disagree with me though, but they can all STFU.

This is why Rotisserie Senda, righter of wrongs, is no fun. If he was able to find a sense of humour and play along a bit, taking calls and answering his detractors, it would be a win-win. Falkie could further expand Brand Senda and Giggles could be involved in a podcast that got the listener count past double figures for once.

I didn't think Senda's dander ever got up much these days anyway, unless little teenage girls were involved.

About half an hour. This is a man with zero filter or understanding of what is appropriate. He's probably told this stuff countless times to total strangers. If you've ever had the misfortune to be standing in line  next to Senda at a supermarket checkout he's probably told you all about his sensitive colon and worse.

This is not about being offended by a small (but growing) portion of the content here. It's about the tacit acceptance of its presence and protection of it by the powers that be, which in this venue and others threatens to normalize it in the eyes of those who don't know any better. It's about the policy and the extremely weak grounds that justify it.

I disagree that it's 'acceptance', tacit or otherwise; more an acknowledgement that there are a plurality of opinions out there, some of them not very pleasant, and you can't sweep them under the carpet all the time. It's doesn't serve any purpose to pretend they don't exist, but we don't have to engage them, and that engagement is what these people crave more than anything. If you don't react they tend to get bored and go after easier targets.

The overall trend over time is for people to become more tolerant rather than less, and allowing a few idiots to speak their minds isn't going to change that. The fuss about Trump over the last year or so is proof of that, because the stuff he is saying probably wouldn't have raised many eyebrows a few decades ago, but now a large section of society is horrified by it. You are always going to get a segment of society that is dumber than dirt, and I don't think operating a kind of elitism-in-reverse is going to do much good for anybody.

Quote from: Value Of Pi on September 24, 2016, 12:07:23 PM
This is not a freedom of speech/First Amendment issue, since government censorship is not involved. Many Americans don't understand that speech is limited all the time by private entities, like businesses and parents, to enforce whatever standards they value. People still get plenty of opportunity to express themselves freely in this society.

This is the point. MV isn't anybody's father, or employer here. Are you seriously suggesting that BG is a comparable example? If you adopt a paternalistic attitude here all you end up with is an echo chamber. Some people wanted that when Art was here, and thankfully that temptation was resisted. The idea of free speech is that it should be awkward and annoy people; if everyone were mouthing bromides and platitudes all the time then the idea of free speech wouldn't need defending. The obviously bad ideas get shot down openly, in debate, while the better ones are gradually adopted in the world.

Quote from: Value Of Pi on September 24, 2016, 12:07:23 PM
On the practical question of how to maintain the open and free-wheeling nature of the site while still taking out the trash as needed, I'll say this one more time. It's very doable. The problem is in not having the skills to manage the site to this end and, I would guess, not wanting to take the trouble to learn them. That, by the way, is as harsh a judgement on MV as it needs to be since he's the sole owner/operator. It's all on him.

I'm sure there is something you could do with keywords and so on, but my concern would be what sort of site you'd end up with. However sophisticated it might be, it will inevitably be heavy-handed and do more harm than good. I speak from personal experience, because I have been both banned (graze MV!) and censored (still sore about that). In both cases they amounted to crimes against humanity. He later explained that he's been sniffing a lot of lighter fluid at the time, but the fact remains that I was - however temporarily - a resident of the deplorable basket, and you might well have been permanently deprived of my charming and benevolent presence. I think it's about accepting a small amount of bad if you want to retain the good.

Quote from: Value Of Pi on September 24, 2016, 12:07:23 PM
This whole matter, by the way, is happening with a national election, and the spectre of Donald Trump, hanging over the country. There's a lot of the Trumpian mindset in MV's excuses for not taking a stand on the worst bigots and racists around us here on BellGab. Trump sets a great example for how to do that.

As much as I dislike Trump, I'd rather he ran BellGab than Hillary. I hope they get this whole issue sorted out in the debate because I want to know where they both stand on the BellGab question, and I don't want the whole thing taken up by trivialities like the economy and foreign policy.

Quote from: Value Of Pi on September 24, 2016, 12:07:23 PM
Anyway, here's one last bit of irony that I know you'll appreciate. I've gotten a much tougher tongue-lashing from MV for my views on dealing with racism and bigotry at BellGab than the racists and bigots have gotten from him for their postings. As I pointed out in my Top Right Corner quotation, these guys have a home and a safe space here and they know it.

I used to get into arguments with Nazi types on here, before I realised it was a waste of time. But if someone criticises me then I will probably react to it. I can't waste my time correcting everybody's idiotic ideas, but I would be more inclined to engage someone if it touched me personally. I think that's all MV is doing, and you are reading too much into the rest of it.

Just in case anyone is unclear, here are the posters you're gladly and enthusiastically giving a platform to and endorsing, a couple of whom you've named: Jew-haters, Holocaust-deniers, black-hating bigots, and assorted other dregs of humanity. These are the people whose right to free speech you feel a personal need to champion and whose message you don't mind helping to spread. This is, from your point of view, the ultimate proof of how much you treasure the First Amendment. A true patriot, you are.

MV doesn't need me to defend him, but I ought to point out a couple of things.

BG is no different to every other part of life; there is good and bad on offer and you can always ignore the bad if you choose to. Nothing is won or lost here and if things get a bit tiresome (as they have for me on occasion) then it's a good idea to step away and do something else for a while. It's not worth losing sleep or hair in bothering about the opinions of a few anonymous posters. If he starts curating the forum rather than let it be itself then that's the very definition of the good intention that leads you straight to hell. Soon it would become unusable. MV would have created a precedent and would get besieged with messages demanding he expunge this or that post because it crossed an arbitrary line. The hands-off approach is really the only way to go if you want somewhere that is actually interesting, rather than a hang-out for cat-ladies. I don't think it's fair to see it as an endorsement. Free speech involves defending the right to speak for some pretty unpleasant characters. It has to be that way, because once you start censoring people, sooner or later the censoring process gets round to you too.

There's a lot of material here I skip over for one reason or another, mostly because it's boring, but you get to know the ones who are deliberately unpleasant and you develop a kind of mental filtering process, so soon you barely even notice they are there any more. Getting offended is your choice here. It's a gun that you load, point and fire at yourself. Nobody does that for you, and making a fuss just encourages the troublemakers to up the ante and do even more to piss you off. You are playing their game and getting sucked into their little world. It's really not worth your time.

Hearing YP's golden tones evokes a feeling of a cozy rainy afternoon in England snuggled under a duvet for an afternoon delight.. with a good book :) ;)

I agree with Jaz, it would be amazing to hear the three of you on a special edition International Gabcast.

I'm sure this business with the caregiver is going to be bad news for Senda. For a start, I am sure it will probably turn out to be some sort of hard-ass type who won't take any of his nonsense and bully fatso into taking some exercise instead of lying in bed past noon. They'll probably have to tell the authorities that the place is a health hazard with all his crap just waiting to catch fire, so he will be forced to get rid of a bunch of his precious 'collectibles'. And I'm sure even the thought of tidying up will cause him to have a mini-stroke because he loves to wallow in his own filth and will start complaining that he can't find anything now this bitch has been going through his shit. Even PB mentioning tidying up brought him out in hives. Whatever they get paid for going through his laundry is nowhere near enough. You must need a blowtorch to get rid of the skidmarks on his 64'' shorts. Senda is going to hate it, guaranteed. Fuck him with a giant cactus.

The trouble with you (leaving aside the other stuff for the moment, like being a balding needle-dick, a cloth-headed dunce with the sexual charisma of a junkie's syringe, and the IQ of one of Falkie's wet wipes) is that you aren't prepared to have a discussion like a reasonable adult. All you do is throw chaff in the air and expect it to serve as a coherent argument, when in fact it's about as worthless as the rest of you. Come up with something that has a chance of being disproved and you might earn yourself some respect. For once. It's not my fault that you can't get a woman to spend any time with you unless chloroform and duct tape is involved, so don't take your sexual frustration out on me.
