I can accept that there may have been issues; I just think Art resorting to quitting like he always does was just absurd. It really changes my view on everything this time around. Maybe something could have been done if Art didn't act like the sky was falling if his demand was unmet. That's the problem I have here. Dropping everything and abandoning ship.

I'm just glad he's not in charge of the nuclear arsenal.

Again, this is what kills me. We waited years for him to come back, and he throws in the towel after 6 weeks. I think this beats even the most pessimistic of predictions.

It was like some sick soap opera playing out again.  Thinking about leaving the country, last minute show replays instead of showing-up, "the back problem,"hell, it was like years of his usual drama queen crap compressed into 6 weeks.  Thankfully, it didn't drag on this time.

Well said.

@others

And no, I don't work on their software, but I have worked on streaming internet radio software in the past.  I am now my own boss, so my ultimatums work pretty damned well now.  LOL

Try it with your customers, your real boss.

SiriusXM is a broken model, see my old post.

Streaming issues CAN be fixed with more buffering and better connection control.  I am a programmer and know this to be true, but it doesn't take a programmer to know this.   Clearly they don't know shit about their streaming stuff, remember the first thing Art did was to get them to change their time-out feature to 4 hours.  Lame that they'd even have such a thing for a paying service!

WRONG.  They came looking for Art.  He's holding the cards.  He threw his bet in, they didn't.  They refuse to do what it takes to help make Dark Matter a better show.  And he isn't asking for a lot.   This is Sirius being unreasonable.  But that's no surprise - $15 a month is unreasonable for RADIO and a SHITTY web interface anyway.   You can say whatever you want, but their web stuff is SHIT, and that's coming from someone who never had a problem with their stream.

I hope you have better luck with ultimatums to your boss than Bell did.

... He told us that satellite was the future and that terrestrial radio is on the way out. Art singlehandedly sold many subscriptions for Sirius and many satellite radios. Then he says bye-bye suckers! I'm out of here!

That really pisses me off.  All that crap about "extraterrestrial radio," and then it's "beam me out of here, Scotty!"

Maybe he has serious mental issues, what else could explain this? ...

I just think after the initial thrill of being back on the air wore off, Art was looking for a way out, back to retirement.  I've known people like Art.  After the raccoon gets tired of playing with the new, shiny thing, it just walks away.

Don't contracts mean anything in the broadcasting industry?  How does Bell just walk away from a 3 year contract?  I saw the verbage from the Bell-side about being "a mutual agreement" but is that really the case?  Will Sirius take action for breach of contract?  All the excuses Bell has thrown out are just that.  BS excuses.  I'd think Sirius would want to recover at least some of it's losses, such as building the studio.

Even with Bell's past, I really thought he'd at least honor this contract, especially after all the build-up he provided.  What a let-down.  :(

He was actually bawling on the air during one  of his on air ghost investigations a week or so ago.

He can be really good when he's got a guest and focused on the topic, especially the classic paranormal.  I just can't take all the other crap and his meme fascination.  Definitely some dysfunction going on with him, but I admire his battling his cancer.  He's a fighter.

Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis is alright. He's a actor/voice actor so he is pretty entertaining to listen to. He really needs to get more guests though.

And stop all the emotional drama and rants.

Art should have handled this situation like an adult. First, if you're going to disappear without explanation, at least apologize to your fans rather than falling back on some excuse about the internet stream or cell phones when we've put money into radio equipment expecting a show to run for three years. Honor your contract and work with SiriusXM behind closed to doors on making the service better, for international listeners that have to fake a U.S. address and those who were online only users and dependent on the app to work. Instead, he gave management an ultimatum and quit when he didn't get his way. Didn't like the number of repeat callers? Adapt, take a Dreamland approach rather than blame others - it takes time to build a new following and Dark Matter deserved more than a six week run. The fact is, Art Bell flaked once again and he has no one to blame but himself when he could have done his job without acting like a diva, working out the kinks as the show went on.

Right on.  Noory sucks and Bell is a flake.

Is that really accurate though? The cellphone audio did suck, listen to the programs, potato phones and all. Beyond that, it was mostly bellgabbers. No offense to Jaz, but when a single Australian listener can get on so much on Skype that he has to moderate his own calls to not wear out his welcome, there's a damned problem.

What I don't get, SciFi, is if Art really wanted to stick with Dark Matter, why didn't he work with them for awhile behind the scenes to resolve any issues?  Hell, he was only on the air for six weeks.  I can't imagine showing-up new to a job, no matter my prior rep, and making ultimatums to my new employer.  Unless I wanted to get fired.

This all sure happened rather rapidly.  Looking at Mr. Bell's history of "retirements," I can't help but think the thrill of being back on the air wore off rapidly and he was just looking for an out, again.  He saw it and he took it.  I certainly don't blame Sirius for the demise of Dark Matter.
