Messages - MV/Liberace!

#21721
i hate it when moderators lock threads.  i see there to be generally no point in doing it since it prevents people engaging in the very activity a message board exists for: the posting of messages.  i like to leave things alone and see where they're going to go.  locking threads doesn't permit that.  i think usually when a moderator locks a thread, it's because either they want to demonstrate their "power" or it's because somebody has said something they don't agree with.  i don't allow anybody to engage our community in that manner.

however, in the case of this thread, i am going to deviate from my philosophies.

the reason is that this thread has been an embarrassment in terms of participation.  some of our more prominent and loyal members have attempted (and god bless them) to jump start this thread, but with no luck.  they know who they are.

there could be a few reasons for this.  maybe the mechanics of a message board aren't conducive to a real time conversation.  after all, pressing the refresh button repeatedly is a bit tardish.  i didn't want to install a chat interface for reasons i have already elaborated upon.  lack of participation in this thread could also be caused by a lack of interest in C2C its self on the part of our members.  honestly, don't you think it's kinda silly to expect members of a site called coastgab.com to be listening to snoory each night?  heh.  i do.  the third possible reason seems to be the most likely reason to me:  we just aren't big enough.  yet.  i think that is going to change soon, though.  we are already on pace to exceed 85,000 page views for this month which is something i would never have imagined possible after only 4 months of operation.

so, in short, i'm locking this thread in order to spare myself the embarrassment of watching the incessant tumbleweed that seem to be blowing through each night.  it's something my ego just can't abide.

"They have right now cryogenic chambers, but they've got dead people in them, who are hoping that one day they will come up with a cure for whatever they died of, and then bring them back to life...."
i know i'm stepping out on a limb with this, but haven't most of those cryogenically frozen people died of... um... death?

i think that's actually what they're trying to cure.

phan... it's great to see your show rundowns back in action.  this place wasn't/isn't/wouldn't be the same without them.

I don't like watching movies and usually don't, so maybe I am the wrong person to say this, but it seems to me that Robin Williams and Jack Nicholson also play the same character, or variations of the same character, in every movie they do. Robin is either *manic, funnyman Robin* or *serious, thoughtful Robin*. He usually grows a beard for the latter role. Nicholson is just *loose cannon, smart alec, borderline psychotic Jack* in every role he does. He turns up the crazy in some roles, and cuts back on it in others, but he's basically a one trick pony.
as much as i don't want to, i think i'm going to have to agree with you here.

it doesn't bother me to agree with you about williams, since i find him to be a pleasure to dislike.

however, it does bother me to agree with you on nicholson.  he wasn't this way in earlier years when his performances were as varied as the roles he was cast to play.  think of easy rider, one flew over the cuckoo's nest, and the shining.  very different roles for nicholson.  fast forward about 20 or 30 years and compare him in as good as it gets or the bucket list.  same guy.  same role.

i do have to give nicholson credit for about schmidt.  i love that movie (not that i dislike the others i mentioned here) and i think his portrayal of warren schmidt was a departure from what audiences have come to expect from today's jack nicholson.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-zEwGZ56Bs

i think the reason audiences have forgiven nicholson for becoming a caricature of himself, if you will, is simply because it's pleasurable to watch.  at least i think so.

i'm not surprised the people here are intelligent.  they are representative of precisely the demographic from whom i would expect frustration over the position snoory holds today.

however, i can't begin to explain why people here are friendly and polite.  i never expected that would be the case, since it's almost inherently impossible for such an environment to exist on a message board.  it might simply be because we have yet to acquire a significant user base.  things might change when that happens.  we shall see.

oh, and we are on pace this month, broken down by average page views per hour, to hit 87,000.  when we hit 100,000 i will pull the plug on this site.

only kidding about that last bit.

Not to defend Noory's interview techniques, but I've heard this Vanei character on the Paracast and he is a HORRIBLE interview.  The guy claims some pretty outrageous stuff and follows up nearly every line with some sort of lunatic cackle.  Think Dr. Hibbert on the Simpsons.  Pulling the plug early on this guy was probably one of Noory's few good decisions.
if that's the case, then it means the producer of c2c, tom whatever-the-hell, isn't doing his job.  they should have known about this prior to the interview.

by the way... heh, nobody here will stalk your wife or anything if you happen to defend something about noory.  we welcome all points of view.  welcome to gns.

I remember that episode of Star Trek, where the dancing green woman tried to seduce Capt. Kirk.
actually, i believe she was seducing captain christopher pike in the pilot which didn't actually air until used in bits in the episode entitled The Menagerie.

haha... now that i see this quote, i remember reading that blog.  yeah, it would be nice to get that guy to come here and rant about the whole thing a bit, but someone who has a blog as he does might not be likely to come here when they can just do what they're doing over there.

Thank YOU Michael for giving us this playground! :)
no prob, spikegirl.  i hope it GROWS GROWS GROWS so that i can profit from the google ads and buy that new paper clip collection i've been checking out on ebay.

by the way, people... my previous july projection of 52,000 page views has been blown away with a grand total for the month of 64,555.  i'm amazed.

also, don't you just get a kind of "old world" fuzzy feeling when people say "grand" total?  i start looking for bottles of sarsaparilla and hula-hoops in my peripheral vision.

i think my biases regarding "mags" stem from the fact i'm just not into white women.  that, coupled with her overall unattractiveness, are just too much to take.

Fascinating achievements from WS, without Question. If I'm not on the first hour tonight, George will call me.
i'm not entirely sure why, but this whole "george will call me" thing is cracking me up.
#21740
yeah that's what my buddy was saying pertaining to continuing to hear the caller.
#21741
it's like asking michael j. fox for shaving advice.

ok, i know that's going to land me in the lake of fire.

but it is making me laugh.

you're not supposed to laugh at your own material.
#21742
yay... another caller who agrees with snoors 99.5 percent of the time.

george responded with something along the lines of "What's with the other .5 percent?"

i was expecting george to say, "What's with the other 5 percent?"

haha

Sorry, I know this post is old, but I just couldn't keep the tears from pouring out of my eyes as I laughed at this one. Two of my kids kept coming in and saying, "Dad, what are you laughing at?"
thank you, sir.  thank you.

you know something... i just looked at that quote and it clearly shows that i incorrectly employed a contraction in the word "it's" which is flawed when used in the possessive form as was the case here.

i would now like to take this opportunity, as the leader of our movement, to apologize and ask forgiveness for this indiscretion on my part.

i made a mistake.  i am owning up to it, and i plan to learn from it.

i will not resign my position nor will i consider it so long as my constituents continue to demonstrate their confidence in the faith and trust they've placed in me.

that said, i would now like to ask all of you to respect the wishes and best interests of my family by giving us the space we need as we consult with our spiritual advisor in an attempt to heal the wounds i have inflicted upon those for whom i care the most through my admittedly irresponsible actions.  this is a matter between my wife, myself, and our god.  thank you, and good afternoon.

i'm tuned in for a bit...

this night vision ufo guest says, according to my buddy who is ACTIVELY listening to the show (a feat of which i'm not capable), says the "battling" crafts he sees are about 300 feet up.  ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING?  holy christ.

George shares a flying story about a passenger next to him once sleeping so deeply, Snoors thought he was dead.
i will sleep well tonight imagining the sleeping passenger was listening to one of george's broadcasts on his ipod.  that, coupled with the act of SITTING NEXT TO george, could very well be the catalyst behind any number of catastrophic medical emergencies in the average human.

i'm willing to bet this passenger never made it to his destination.

mikemcc... welcome to gns.  you clearly are a vessel of sanity and clarity.

i think if i were the producer of a show hosted by a mush-mouthed stroke victim impersonator, i'd try to get as many drunk people on as possible.  after all, the perception of incompetence and incoherence can be a relative thing.

i am actually a bit embarrassed that i didn't mention this sooner on this site.

apollo 14 astronaut edgar mitchell who visited the moon in 1971 said in an interview to a british radio show a few days ago that aliens do in fact exist and have been visiting the planet for decades while the governments of the world have covered it up.  i have NEVER been big on the whole alien visitation thing.  i just haven't.  i really don't believe it.  however, this story makes me wonder if i should rethink my conclusions.   i mean it's EDGAR FUCKING MITCHELL saying this!!  come on!!
