Technology / Re: Demonoid goes down for the count!

Yay!  Thanks for the links, folks.  For the deep archive stuff ... hmm.  I need to go through and compare what I have with what's available.  Problem with the format that you just posted, though, Hal, is that the year is last.  So it's great that January is first, but 2002 is intermixed with 2001 with 1997 with 2003 and 2004, etc.  On my HDD, which already contains about 199.32 GB of C2C going back to 1993, I have them separated by year and then in order within that folder by year.

I belong to a forum where a few people post the latest shows, but the site is closed to new members.

Since the recent outbreak of the HPV (look it up if you don't get it) brothers, I come here much less often, so I would not post links daily.

Additionally - and I don't want to sound whiney here, though I know it may come across that way - every other I forum I belong to allows editing of posts indefinitely. This allows me to start a thread of uploads for example, and as links go down or are updated, I can simply add or edit the links always in the first post. This has become somewhat of a hallmark of my posts, in that, it is always understood that all links/updates etc., will always be found in the first post - no searching through perhaps hundreds/thousands of posts to find anything; they're all in one place - always the first post. This allows for a very clean thread, with no clutter.

Just as easy, since signatures show up in every post, I could include a link to say, pastebin, which would always include an updated list of show links, but signatures are not allowed here. Our "user experience" options here seem to be about half of what they once were. Also to be clear, I'm not slamming MV - I'd like to think we can disagree without being disagreeable - but I hate cluttered threads where I can't find things easily.

May I'll start a tiny forum which is specific for c2c show links - one-stop-shopping if you will. Years ago I actually used to have one - a site which only featured c2c links.

Agree with your sentiments on editing.  Otherwise, setting up some forum where we could get current (and old) episodes would be very much appreciated.  I used to use TPB to get the current shows, then went to Demonoid, and at least for the last several months if not year or so, TPB has not had current shows posted.

So, what's a good way to get ahold of the current episodes?

Looks like Bara finished his book. This is one book you can judge by its cover. If I were him, I'd be embarrassed by the cover, it's fucking horrendous.

Clearly, that makes you a hater.

I haven't been blocked by either, yet.  Should I take that as a compliment or an insult?
#1506
Thanks.  I feel like I should mention that I've updated it a bit, correcting a mistake I made about shadows (you can scatter light, but there's nothing nearby to scatter light) and I added a minute where I locate the feature in the latest imagery.  Link here.

I'm lovin' all the creativity as folks begin to earnestly expose these frauds. However, when in my video, I say that, "Richard C. Hoagland is a lying Dick," I was merely using the "shorthand" version of Richard, which is Dick.

So, as Edward is a Ted, Richard is a Dick. A lying Dick.

Yeah, I figured that was going to be your save. ;)

Munchausen by proxy is when you hurt somebody else... usually this applies to the "crazy" mother characters that populate Law and Order and CSI shows.

Ah yes, that's what they said.  Many years ago that I saw that episode ... thanks. :)

Alrighty, I created a 4.5-minute movie debunking this:

This is my first "official" movie from my podcast and it took me around 3-4 hours to make the friggin' 4.5-minute thing ... lemme know what you think. :)  Note that I was a tad less confrontational than HAL 9000's video.

Munchausen is when people hurt themselves on purpose to get attention.

Themselves or a loved one (yay Law and Order SVU!).

My blog got a fair number of hits from Above Top Secret where people were posting about this, and it appears that this isn't just a hoax from 2011, but one from 2003.  What an ass.

Wonder why Hoagland didn't mention this new discovered Mars anomaly, posted at the c2c website tonight:

July 21, 2012
Hole in Mars Found
The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter currently circling Mars has discovered an unusual hole in the Red Planet. The hole is located on the slopes of Mars' Pavonis Mons volcano and appears to be the opening to an underground cavern measuring about 115 feet across and 65 feet deep. Researchers are unclear why a circular crater surrounds the opening.

More: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap120718.html

I'm not sure why this is news, I could've sworn that this was reported like two years ago.  Maybe it's a new one.  Anyway, it's just a cave.  We know of over a dozen on Mars, at least one found by a school group.  Not that that wouldn't stop Hoagland.

testy. Ive always called it the bad science blog. my mistake, wasnt trying to offend. its a great site.

Didn't take offense, just didn't want to be given credit for something that's not mine.  I also just finished spending the last two hours locating the coordinates of Hoagie's ziggurat, so I'm a bit tired.
#1514
No, I'm not the guy who runs the bad science blog.  I didn't even know there was one ... but I run my "Exposing PseudoAstronomy" blog and podcast.  Regarding bashing CSI (formerly CSICOP) and Randi, I have that episode in my queue to listen to, but I just got back from two weeks of travel so am a bit behind.
#1515
Hoagland was on again last night.  Expat has posted a transcript and his comments on his blog, and I posted a fairly thorough and more detailed analysis on my own blog.  Short version: Ziggurat isn't real.

I'm still waiting for my invite.  8)

Art had to look out for the lowest common denominator in his audience, most of whom probably really couldn't follow the fast-talking, bullshit-weaver that Hoaxland usually was.  Otherwise, he'd probably lose the audience.  The really smart kids in the room were probably always a minority, anyway, and there wasn't any advanced class for them to skip to, so they just had to sit it out until a guest more interesting to them showed up.

Yeah, remember that at least a non-trivial part of the audience believes in things like the 9/11/2001 attacks were from a plasma beam weapon, that homeopathy is something more than just water, and that their intention can change the structure of a crystal, and that Uri Gellar's voice can make a dead clock come back to life.

It's unfortunate that there isn't some authority you could submit your works to go, and have him forced to take back some of his statements, on live radio  8)

Is it wrong that I've dreamed about this once or twice?

such a book could be measured in pounds rather than pages.

Indeed.  Just to thoroughly explain any single one of Hoagland's "white papers" (read: rants on his site) would take at least 50 printed pages.  I went through a single one of Alex Tsakiris' interviews (he's another crazy guy) and just explaining SIX things he said took around 3500 words.  A previous interview of his, addressing 5 points, took me 3000 words.

I loved it when Richard C. Hoagland kept saying "you knew that, right?" He did it twice. First it was in regards to Stanley Cooper's daughter and then it was something related to physics. George said "oh yea" and "explain that." He's such a moron.

He does that every time. Richard tries to play teacher.  Of course, George just plays into it.  I love hate it whenever some guest says something that's just stupid or wrong or a popular misconception or whatever and George is like, "Exactly!" or "Of Course!" or "Yup!"  Richard doesn't quite let him get away with as much of that, but they still play off each other obnoxiously.

This post is excellent. I am so grateful for people, especially scientists, who take on Richard C. Hoagland. It's bad enough that science education and ignorance is so widespread without a deceiver like Hoagland wandering the airwaves.

Speaking as someone who does this (did I ever link to my podcast episode on RCH's 19.5° here?), sometimes it's not possible.  I'm around half-way through his "interview" from this week and it's like every sentence is just wrong.  It's hard to debunk 3 hours of pure spewage (yes, I know what I wrote).  I had the same problem when I tried to address a single interview of Mike Bara in my blog.
#1522
If you missed it or don't subscribe/read it (and seriously, if you're on this forum, why wouldn't you?), expat has a guest post today about RCH's three hours last night of hell.

P.S.  I have yet to listen to it ... demonoid is around 1-2 days behind getting the files up ;).

P.P.S.  Spoke too soon - Demonoid has 'em up and am downloading now.  Won't get to 'em until tomorrow, though.

Expat:  Puh puh puh paleeeeze Call C2C Monday and get Hoaxland to explain the difference between "spaceship" and "spacecraft" live... wait no call him out on the inaccutron "experiment."  hell bring up both if they let you stay on the air long enough.  I really want to HEAR him stick up for himself... I find his internet responses are always lacking.

IF Expat were to make it on and IF Noory actually had Hoagland respond, you know that he'll just say that he never said it (the former) or that there is no important difference, and for the latter he'll just say that expat has to read all his previous stuff even though he has but that it's all in there.  Or, he may default to the line I've heard him use once or twice which basically boils down to "fine, you don't have to believe this, I'm just presenting a model."

Crying???   It sounded like he was snorting coke.   ;D

I have no idea what snorting coke sounds like, but I agree that if that was crying, it was not that convincing.

Hoagland has yet to post or talk about his Venus Transit data.  I took the liberty of posting what I think he'll say.  I think I captured it quite well. :)

I've made it through the first two guys and ... wow.  Absolutely NOTHING that Sean David Morton said for 2006 happened.  I didn't expect anything from Dr. Doom and got nothing, so batting normal there.  This is why I've been tracking "psychic" predictions the last two years now (2010, 2011).

Quote from: stevesh on May 28, 2012, 06:45:01 PMIt is, but I don't think they want it to get any bigger. One of the required registration questions is: "What is the podcaster Jay's last name?" WTF ?

It's the forum for the "Skeptics' Guide to the Universe" podcast.  Generally if you're on the forum, they assume that you listen to the podcast.  Three of the five hosts are brothers with the last name "Novella."

Why isn't this Facebook?  This needs a "Like" button. :D

Yeah, we're talking about that on the SGU forum.  Some are thinking it's a clever way to "punk" him.
