Radio and Podcasts / Re: The Rush Limbaugh Phenomenon
November 24, 2012, 01:55:31 PM
So, who heard Rush on Wed. (maybe Tues.)  talking about 'how some people would be really upset if they knew what was really going on' and not saying a word (as far as I heard) about the Middle East?

I think he wants a another few million for holiday shopping.    ;D

hushmail.com and zoho.com offer free web-based e-mail accounts that work just fine.  Okay, I have to go to sleep now.  Early to bed early to rise sucks -- especially early to rise.

On February 26, 2005,  a drunken, obese girl was throwing beer bottles at nothing in particular outside my house at 3am. From my window,  I called her an "elephcunt". This portmanteau never quite caught on. Another failed neologism by me...but I'll keep trying.

I read this as, "On February 26, 2005,  a drunken, obese girl was throwing beer bottles at nothing in particular from my window at 3am."

I thought you were being rather rude to someone who was presumably an invited guest (if only for the night), but then I re-read it.

Sorry for the momentary negative thoughts!   :-X

Of course it's the crop circle producing the noise and not the fact that he's standing in an empty field.

I kind of turned off my ears after hearing the phrase “quantum nutrition” from the guest.   ::)

Hope you missed me.  I'm back - and very timely it seems, to post my garish signature image which I will continue until it is completely ~punched~ to the gills. But I promise an exquisite and subtle madness in exchange for your tolerance.

According to the Numbers Lady today (a 2 day) should be a very good day for my LifePath (a 4) and now I know it is true since Eddie Coyle and Camazotz Automat are both back!!!

Or you could look even closer to home - (I'm assuming you're in Canada?) where so-called anti- "hate-speech" (I loathe the term hate-whatever, but it has become part of popular vernacular) is punishable by fines or imprisonment

I once worked for a book company that published some politically incorrect material and some ordinary material.  Naturally, they would seize and destroy the politically incorrect material.  But there was no telling what else they might object to.  They sometimes seized perfectally ordinary, non-poltical books on Norse or Celtic mythology for example.  They once seized a Norse-themed coloring book for kids published by Dover -- almost no words, just pictures for kids to color.  When we asked what books we could and could not ship, they said there was no list, it was up to the discretion of whatever Customs official opened the packages...

At least Germany has a list of banned books so you know what you cannot ship there.

Ideal??? like what would the best ethnic make-up be??

Well sans the great American genocide without which I wouldn't be here...well most of me... it would look like this...

Canada:Indians
The U.S.:Indians
Mexico: Mayan... indians?

Currently though I see it like this:

Canada: Every ethnicity
The U.S.: Every ethnicity
Mexico: Mostly Beaners

I should have specified that you have to live in whatever country you are living in now.  And you have to give at least approximate percentages.  Also that as this is purely a theoretical question, do not worry about "how."  Assume some sort of instant teleportation where no one is hurt or an alternate reality being made from scratch.  It is just imagining what you think would work best.

I am guessing that you want all of North America to be 100% indigenous (presumably populated by the various groups that were here when Columbus arrived, in about the same percentages).  In this case maybe you would like to pick out the tribe/nation you would most like to be adopted into?

[BTW: Most people pick something close to what they grew up in, unless there was a lot of racial tension in their school, then they adjust their childhood experience.]

That's a little odd.  It wasn't because you think Noory sucks?

More seriously, I think you got this impression by viewing things thru the lens of the media.  They like to paint those they oppose as stupid, or crazy, or evil.  (Or any combination of the three.)

Okay, I moved this to “Politics”
Quote from: RealCool Daddio on July 24, 2012, 09:47:47 AMGay marriage - yes
Pro choice - yes, support a woman's right to choose, but hope she chooses life
Right to own a gun - yes
Restrictions on owning assault rifles, canons, SCUD missiles, tactical nukes - yes, please
Free markets, including free trade - yes
Separation of church and state - yes
Lower taxes, less government - yes
Islamism a real threat - yes
Can't think of many other "litmus test" issues at the moment, but feel free to ask them.
Okay here are a couple:
Immigration â€"
Diversity â€"

What would the ideal ethnic make-up of X country be? (You have to pick something not just say, “it doesn’t matter")
Let’s just start with North America --
Canada:
The U.S.:
Mexico:

I am really curious, this is not just rhetorical.

Sure, there is room for improvement (seriously, more hockey rinks

Ice hockey is a racist sport!  I am outraged!  I know the sport is trying to become more diverse, but I think it may be inherently racist.  The majority of the world's population is very poor and do not have the money for ice hockey rinks.  The rinks are mostly in whiter areas -- where the weather is cold so the rinks by not even be needed in winter.  This is unfair!  Because of the distribution of the various ethnic groups in the world and the distribution of rinks, I do not think hockey will ever be truly diverse.  It should be banned!!!!!!  It is only a reminder of White Privilege!

Okay, that is the best I can do.  It is too early in the day for me to think clearly.

Holmes looks like he is about to turn catatonic or totally withdrawn.  One can only wonder what thoughts are running through his mind.

Maybe: 'Gosh, I really f-ed up.  I am spending the rest of my life in jail.  Maybe I should have taken the Risperdal.'  He is about the age when schizophrenic symptoms start to show up.  (For males.  It is later for females.)  And high IQ doesn't mean you can't have schizophrenia.  Generally one's childhood is pretty normal, then one starts to have thinking problems.  I read somewhere that a classmate said, Hollmes’ grades were slipping and he was probably flunking out.

A co-worker of mine who married young, married a guy who everyone thought was wonderful.  But after a few years he started to have odd problems.  He was a delivery guy, not gifted, previously normal all around.  But he started to forget his routes and get weird ideas and obsessions (nothing violent in his case, but interfering with his life).  He saw a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.  She was wondering why. I said it was often at least partly genetic.  The doctor had asked about family history, but didn’t explain why.  She was sort of relieved to hear this, since she was afraid it was her fault somehow.  Anyway, he was very open to “talk therapy” and meds and last I heard was doing fine in his job and they are still married.

So… hate to say "horses" when zebras are more interesting, but it could be pretty simple.

The only place I see something “odd,” is in the media coverage.  Why was Jared Loughner immediately (before anyone could know anything) denounced as a Right Wing Extremist, gun loving White Male, while no one has mentioned Holmes race or possible politics?

Very funny post - and the funniest things come from reality.

I couldn't believe that this guy wasn't sure if his web site would go down if the server was removed from the facility!  And of course hubby was not paid a dime.

Why does he do it?  "Because no one else ever helps him."  Can't imagine why that is.   :-\

Kim really doesn't have much knowledge of computers.  I heard her show recently and a woman called saying "how can I speed up my computer? It slows down on certain things.."  Kim's answer was "buy a new computer".

That about sums it up, I think!

I build my computers from scratch.  Currently I have a 4yr old AMD dual core with Windows XP, which still runs circles around any pre-built Dell or Gateway Windows-7 piece of shit.

My husband does that, but he prefers Linux.  There are 5 or 6 machines in the living room.  I think one uses Windows XP or maybe it is one of the 54 removable hard drives (in the living room and kitchen).  But will he help me?  Noooo.

Some near stranger calls and and says "the server isn't working, can you fix it?"  He spends 10 hours testing various things remotely, but decides he has to drive to the hosting site (3 hrs away) pick up the server and bring it home.  He calls back the guy and tells him.  Idiot  Near Stranger says, "Will that make the web site go down?"  Husband, "Yes.  Isn't so and so running a mirror site?"  INS, "Umm, not any more."  Me when this is explained, "Why do you think that is?  He always asks for help, never does anything to help anyone else, and never reimburses people (let alone pay them for their time)."  INS calling back 15 minutes later, "Can you buy another server and set it up before you go down there?, I'll reimburse you for the cost, just send me the reciept."  Husband, "Ah, I guess so."

But when I tell him my printer isn't working with my computer and I need to print something for the kids' school.  Will he look at it?  No.  He is "too busy."  Busy playing the latest Diablo, that is.

Annoying.

Was she the one that was on a while back, going on about an "ice age diet", claiming that anything that had a miniscule amount of sugar was inherently evil to the human digestion system? If so, I think I'll give the latest podcast a miss.

Not sure, but it seems quite possible.  I thought she said she previously promoted a "paleolithic diet" but no longer thinks that is good enough and now promotes a "neo-paleolithic diet."  But she did seem to be quite into ice.  She recommended people putting an ice pack between their shoulder blades as a weight loss aid.

I can only think of one female radio host (no relationship to C2C) I don't mind listening to on a rare occasion, Kim Komando.

Well, there is no accounting for taste!  I cannot stand her voice and she does not seem to know her stuff to me.  Very little concern for privacy (although she will point out obvious scams) and always plugging the latest product regardless of utility (with rare exceptions in the case of total duds).  She is more of a product ho than Noory.

And at least Noory doesn't call himself a "god."  Even Mr. Ego, Rush, only says he is "on loan from God."

Wow, tonight's diet guest is quite Noory-appropriate.  He just recommended people drink 15 glasses of ice water the first thing upon getting up in the morning.  Then he went into something about previously living near the Arctic Circle with a pack of wolves.  I am thinking he might even have said a "tribe" of wolves, but I am probably wrong there.

As I recall last week's diet guy was a pretty sensible "eat less, walk more" type who didn't say anything odd, but was about as interesting as listening to the traffic noise.

This guy also sounds female.  Maybe it is a female, in which case she sounds male.  I am going to the website to check out its photo.

P.S.: The site is down, but the first name is "Nora" so I am guessing female.  That's a slight relief somehow.

That is Tommy?!?  I picture some young kid when I hear Tommy.  On the bright side, get him to drop a few pounds and Noory is well on his way to attaining the weight loss goal for the nation.

At least he is wearing basic black.  On one of Noory's past video chats that Coast Insiders can view he popped into the frame for a few seconds wearing an incredibly hideous Hawaiian shirt.  I am still not sure if it was an ironic statement or if he just has bad taste.

In one way it is... Everyone from the red cross to government agencies recommend that you have a radio, some food and some water as a minimum for ANY emergency.

During the 1989 Bay Area earthquake I was at work.  It was the biggest earthquake I had been in.  It was amazing to watch a seemingly solid building have waves in it, just like waves in the ocean.  A huge pill counting machine which was about the size of 4 refrigerators next to each other fell down and missed me by about 6 inches (it was not anchored down at all), but no one in the store was hurt.  Even a small earthquake can cause a lot of damage if there are things on shelves because they bounce and vibrate off.  Now there was nothing on the shelves, glass everywhere, and some structural damage.

After earthquakes, the policy was to wait for the store manager to say if people stayed or went home.  Usually, the problem was just a few things on the floor and no electricity.  It was up to the manager to guess if the electricity would be on soon enough for the employees to wait around.  This time it was pretty clear that everyone should just go home.

So it was clear it was a big earthquake, but without knowing where the epicenter was it was impossible to say how big.  If it was nearby it might not have been that big, but if it was far away it would have been massive.  So I turned on the car radio.  The station I listened to was not there.  I tried all the presets and there were no stations at all.  I decided to just drive home and check out the damage there.  There was no damage there at all except for a little glass vase that fell down and broke, but I could tell there had been some shaking as the 5 gallon vats I had filled with water and chlorine to sterilize bottles for beer making only had about an inch of water in them and the rest was on the kitchen floor.

I tried to find a station on my home battery operated radio, but there was nothing local on at all and the farther away stations were barely coming in and didn't seem to have any special news programing on them.  There was no TV either and all the phone lines were busy.  All my neighbors had the same problem, no one had any idea how big the quake was.

So my radio was useless.  After that I got a shortwave radio from C Crane and another one that could pick up ham broadcasters.  It was werid and annoying to be in a major event and to have no info.

Sorry for the long, mostly OT post!

I am in Silicon Valley and can tell where people work from there insurance cards.  I cannot recall a Cisco employee that was not Indian.   These are the regular employees.  Glad to hear they do SOMETIMES hire non-HB1 visa holders for something.  (But not much.)  Thanks for the info MV!

So I am going to follow Art Bell's command to "TURN THAT RADIO OFF" :D

No, don't do it.  The ex-overweight guest just gave some incredible information: he said he began cutting all his typical portions in half and then started losing weight!  Then he added, "calories count."  Who would have guessed?  I am waiting for the weekly specials on traffic safety advising people to look before crossing the street.

Is this from the 7-9-12 show as well?  If so, considering the above quotes, I may have to download the show.  It sounds like an instant coast classic where the guest can not really believe that his publicist actually booked him on with the Nooron...

Yes, same show.  Another George quote went something like, 'Can traits be passed down in a family because of genetics?'  Sorry I haven't re-listened so I may not have the exact quote, but this is close.  I may re-listen.  The guest was interesting and Noory was amazing!  "Amazing" as in: how did he pass Jr. High biology?

To give him the benefit of the doubt, I think he may have been thinking of a family inclination to alcohol abuse, or a family ability to see ghosts or something,  as opposed to eye color... but still.  A "Noory classic" for sure!

Here's another "brilliant" question from George to a guest from 7-9-12 at about 11:15 PT, 'Are the differences between different species caused by genetics?'

The guest, no doubt stunned by Noory's level of understanding, paused for a few seconds and then said, "Ah, yes."
