I hope Homeland has considered what somebody with bad intentions could do with this.

I was invited to his house for shabbat dinner back in about '96. I didn't make it due to some unforeseen circumstances. I used to like him a lot. Over the past few years, he's really started to aggravate me.

I haven't begun watching season 2 of 'Under the Dome', but after watching last season, I was surprised it was renewed for another year.  It really should have been a miniseries and not dragged on for another 13 episodes or whatever.

I agree. I thought the first few episodes were good, but then it just kind of dwindled from there. I have a few of the new episodes on Tivo, but I'm not sure I'll get to them.

Stunning photos, HR! You really could do a coffee table art  book of Washington state photos, they are that gorgeous. Makes me want to put Washington on my 'must visit' list. Thank you for sharing them.

You really have an eye.  Great photos

Thank you! I'm pretty disappointed I couldn't locate the ghost town, but I'll try again sometime soon. We did have one minor scare lol. We were deep in the Capital Forest, and this whole area is Sasquatch territory, as we came around a bend, there was some knocking on trees. You always hear that that's one sign there's one around you. Didn't see anything, but I let out a
little scream of "Oh, hell no!"  ;D  Was hoping to catch a pic, but not this time, I guess.

I was deep in the forest today, searching for an old logging ghost town, when Mt. Rainier made an appearance through the trees. I never did find the ghost town.  :-[

Radio and Podcasts / Re: the Church of Suckage

Quote from: Marc.Knight on July 23, 2014, 07:45:14 AM
I was imagining the other day that there must be a religious cult somewhere that worships the eternal suckage of said George Noory.  In this imaginary realm, the "Church" of Noory is replete with stained-glass windows depicting his many sucking adventures and stories, as well as the best sucking quotes, such as "asteroids have brains" and "Bigfoot may well be an extraterrestrial, because - remember Chewbacca?”.  An upside-down, gothic portrait of Art Bell adorns a dank side wall.

Shadow rodents scurry between the pews as the congregation begins to dutifully chant from a music book written by UFO Phil.  Suddenly, a huge, cheap, plastic-like bust of George begins to creak and unsteadily lower from the ceiling. The bust begins to rapid-fire burning-hot pizza rolls from his putrid mouth hole at the dazed Congregants.  People are screaming with elation as they get splattered with steaming pizza juice and pizza parts  - and all the while a mechanized laugh of George Noory reaches a maniacal crescendo as it echos irretrievably beyond the confines of the Church of Suckage......

That's some terrifying imagery right there. I think it can be adapted to a Devil's Rain remake.

That's one unusual movie.

Yes.  Loved it.

The GGB always gets the most attention, but the Bay Bridge is also really beautiful. Here's a shot I took back in 2009 on one of my trips out in the bay.

Behind the Candleabra

The story was self-serving, I suppose, but the acting by Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Rob Lowe, Dan Ackroyd, Debbie Reynolds and Scott Bakula was really well done. Props to the makeup and hair people. I didn't recognize Debbie Reynolds, her transformation was that good, while everyone else really did resemble the people they were playing, especially Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

I loved it and watched it twice. As you said, the makeup was incredible. As expected with anything to do with Liberace, it was over-the-top and quite a spectacle.

Hahaha, absholutely! HR, yes, I'd love seeing some more of your photos of the Golden Gate, when you get a chance.  You should start a thread dedicated to your photos.  :)

The bridge is reason enough to visit San Francisco.  I spent most of a day taking it in and then walking the span.  The gift shop and surrounding exhibits detailing the construction and history of the bridge are very well done

It was the classic foggy SF day when I first arrived at the bridge and then it cleared as I walked across.  On the return, the fog started rolling back over the beautiful hills on the Marin side and swirling around the bridge.  A very surreal experience that I'll never forget.  Just plain beautiful.  A creation of man, in harmony with nature.

Nice! Thanks everyone for all your positive feedback on my photos. I've only gotten comfortable sharing my work over the past year or so. I'll try to get more of my San Fran pics up on Monday. I'm heading out to go camping right now and we'll have no internet where we're going. Have a great weekend!

Good God, are you serious?

On another subject, I haven't been keeping up with the latest on the Kasem affair, but some years back, Pierce Co. had a lot of problems with that dept. Inappropriate behavior with corpses( not necrophilia, but other inappropriate stuff), expecially where celebrity corpses like Gov. Dixie Lee Ray were concerned. They cleaned house but may have gone back to their bad old ways. The city has a history of corruption and dysfunction in government. My apologies if you are from there, but it's no secret. About 10 years ago a corrupt police chief shot himself and his wife in a store parking lot in Gig Harbor in broad daylight. The city is always trying to reinvent themselves and be more like Seattle or Portland( a mixed blessing) but many of their schemes don't work. The Museum of Glass is nice, though.

I can't drive by that parking lot without thinking about the murder. Tacoma definitely has its issues. I kind of love it though. No matter how down things are, Tacoma keeps going. I love the waterfront and downtown.  Tacoma needs to embrace its Tacomaness, not try to be Seattle or Portland.

I concur!  Fantastic shots. I love the one of the GGB's tower.  The bridge is one of the most beautiful works of engineering I've seen, especially with it's setting.  It goes so well with the natural beauty.

Thank yeeeeww.  :)  The Golden Gate is one structure I could see every day and never get tired of it. When I was staying down there, I would come around this one bend of the road in Alameda, and the bridge would come into view and it was just awesome.  I'll have to dig through my old shots and post some more. I have a lot of different vantage points of the bridge. I was able to go on a Coast Guard patrol boat for fleet week and we were stationed directly below the bridge. I've also walked it several times.

I like route 66 two and I love the desert. But even more I like the West Coast Hwy. up the coast from California to Vancouver! I spend a whole day in Muir Woods and commune with nature. I used to do that trip once a year back when I still had my vision and I would stop in San Francisco for a few days and party. On my last solo trip I took my '78 Transam, the one with the big Firebird on the hood and the shaker scoop.:-)

I love Muir Woods and Mt. Tam. I never get tired of that area.  I spent a lot of time in the Bay Area a couple years ago and got very familiar with the area. It's spectacular. I have a few shots of Muir Woods and Alcatraz on my page. http://ginagothejackson.smugmug.com/   Lately, we spend a lot of time on the Pacific Coast Highway. We're heading back out there this weekend.

I wonder how long it will take George to connect today's Malaysian airline flight downing with Malaysian Airlines flight MH370.  I think he'll just have a guest spot on for five minutes to talk about it today, but he'll think about it over the weekend and have a full blown conspiracy by Monday, amalgamated from whatever the newscasters at Fox say.

By next Friday mark his words, because he will always have believed something strange was going on with airplanes and this planet

You can bet he'll discuss the 80 children that died on the plane today. He'll wonder aloud if they suffered slow, painful deaths or if they died instantly. He asked that question regarding the Sioux City plane crash about a week ago. Now that he knows 80 children died this time, expect him to focus on their deaths and want extreme detail. He's such a ghoul.   >:(

Skyway to Death!  There was a channel in Worcester,Ma(became HSN affilate in '86, Spanish language in '92) that specialized in TV-movies like that way back when, they pretty much aired every last one made from 1971-79 and claustrophobic "Skyway" was part of their rotation. I imagined it being filmed in a weekend.

It was a bit of a disappointment. I remember bits of it from when it originally aired when I was a wee lass, but I don't think I saw it again until yesterday.

I've been all over the USA, Mexico, Canada and Europe and for this thread my vote is either Zion national Park or Bryce Canyon national Park. Just beautiful! For a week or two. Utah.

I plan to get to Zion/Bryce in the near future. I've been wanting to go for awhile. I'm born and raised Alaskan, so I love Alaska, but only in the summer. I also love taking a few days and driving old Route 66 through the panhandle of Texas into New Mexico. My dream vacation is doing a photo shoot in the region around Chernobyl and other Russian/Ukraine abandoned sites, but with all that's gone on recently, I think I'll put that on hold for a bit.

Dark UK comedy about visiting small museums and murder... made me laugh out loud but probably not for everyone

Sightseers Trailer

That is definitely going on my list to see asap.

I just watched Dangerous Acts. It follows a Belarus theater group and their "subversive" performances against the political system in Belarus. Sadly, it makes me feel like we're not too far from this in  the US.

This. In 1994 I got a letter from the IRS stating I owed 14,000 dollars. Went to work the following day considering suicide. A work mate told me he had a similar experience and told me to contact his accountant I did, one of the best contacts I ever made. After several weeks I get a call saying that the debt had been investigated and I actually owed less than 300 dollars. Never believe the IRS is accurate.

My daughter received an IRS demand letter back in '90, stating she owed something like $2,000 in back taxes. She was 2 years old at the time.  ::)  Needless to say, they received a piece of my mind and reversed the charge.

I agree. Sure, I'd like to see him return, but I'm not getting my hopes up this time. I will never agree with his reasoning for quitting Sirius after only a few weeks. He expects perfection and high numbers right out of the gate, and that's simply not going to happen with internet streaming/podcasting.
