Art would be very interested in these man-eating cats who live in the graveyard. I recently encountered them myself.

In this cemetery of Coyoacán, Mexico City, dozens of cats stand sentinel at the gates. Sitting in silence, barely moving, never crying.
They sit and they stare. Waiting for someone...or something. Are they here to keep someone from coming in...or from getting out?
One fact cannot be avoided - these cats eat the graveyard rats. The rats...well, you can imagine what they eat. Thus, these are cats that, indirectly, survive by consuming human flesh.
Check out my wee blog post on it for photos.

I am recalling there was discussion of it on Dark Matter, but I may be confusing my memories. I know that mysterious disappearances, in general, have been covered by Art, before that cistern story broke (which is, indeed, worth a whole hour or two of talk on itself, easily).

I did not mean to sound dismissive of your suggestion and I am sorry I cannot be more helpful, btw. :) \o/

No worries. Thanks for the reference points, I'll see if I can track down the episode! It's a very mysterious story indeed.

I find I'm too often disappointed by mainstream horror films. Sometimes the scariest things I've seen, though, are under 2 minutes. I put a couple of them in my Top 5 Scariest YouTube Videos list, if you'd like to take a gander.

In other news, I recently saw "It Follows." One of the finest, most original horror films I've seen in a very long time.

Do you have any idea roughly what time period the Hotel Cecil was covered?

Too late...there's already an "Unfriended" movie coming out soon...

Somewhat on the topic, I've recently put together this list of my Top 5 Scary Short Stories. They're fictional--unlike the accounts in this thread--but they make for a good read before bed. Or not, if you want to sleep soundly.

I'd like to hear some discussion of the old "Hotel Cecil" mystery from Los Angeles. A young woman was inexplicably found dead in the hotel's rooftop cistern...after elevator camera footage caught her acting strangely, fleeing from an unseen pursuer. I have posted the video in my "Top 5 Scariest YouTube videos" list of my website, if anyone's interested...

I'm happy to see this many new people come in after me. It make me feel an undeserved degree of "insider status."

She also developed an erotic obsession with Andrew Jackson and kept running out of twenties because the ink had run.

Ha! I totally missed that episode. I love the raunchy suggestive--but censor-safe--nature of this sort of phrasing. Classic Hendrie.

I maintain that the best thing Argento has ever done was when he cowrote the screenplay of Once Upon A Time In The West with Bernardo Bertolucci and Sergio Leone.

Any other suggestions for good thriller - scary - supernatural films of his?

I honestly feel like Coast to Coast covers a good broad range of topics. I just wish there were more threads on this forum related to these paranormal topics, and less threads dedicated to the intricacies of online gossip, or the "Art vs. George" issue...

It seems like a well-attended forum with plenty of intelligent, interesting folks. Let's spend more time talking about interesting things!

I'm gearing up to watch my first Dario Argento movie ever. But I'm not sure which one to start on.

As a horror fan, I feel ashamed that I've never seen anything by him yet. Any suggestions on a good first place to start? I'm thinking "Suspiria"...

Margaret Grey was always my favorite. She claimed to have invented the fish taco at one point.

To date, one of the most fascinating books on ghosts and haunted places I've found is Paul Devereux's "Haunted Land: Investigations into Ancient Mysteries and Modern Day Phenomena." Very scientific minded, thoroughly researched, and he touches on nearly everything--witches, ghosts, ancient European shamanism, Little People, UFOs, etc.

Who knew there was once a "Miss Magic Marker"??
Am I the only person who finds Miss Magic Marker to be extremely hot?

Oh, sorry about the confusion, but thanks for the update.  I'm putting your book on my reading list. As I mentioned, my son attended a Catholic university in Maryland that's widely known to be haunted and has some kind of poltergeist activity in one dorm room that is no longer used, plus the spectral hand of a former slave tapping on the window of another dorm room. Even the administration admits there is paranormal activity, and has tried several times to exorcise the poltergeist spirit to no avail. In view of this, I'm really interested in your take of that university.

I found it on Amazon. I'm definitely reading this.

Very interested! Feel free to contact me with more details about your son's experience. I'd be fascinated, especially since I believe there is overlap with the Catholic university and my own Evangelical alma mater. My email is holyghoststories@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing the full version of the story! Best,
-David

Nope, you're fine. I think MV, the site owner, doesn't mind. Thanks for the link.

Much obliged. Since the book entails ghosts, hauntings, paranormal phenomena, and the mysterious Theosophists and Madame Blavatsky, I figured it would be of interest. ;)

Great story.  Now I have to change my pants.

Always a good sign.
I spent the night in the hotel myself once. (Far from "her room.") Didn't have any strange encounters, but I was so keyed up from my uncle's story, I was on the verge of changing my pants the entire time.

Everyone's got a different process for writing. I find that I agree with Anaya, who said the most important thing is to not stop writing. Do something every day, even if it sucks. You're bound to have up days and down days, but never lose the habit of writing. Or the love of reading. (My writing sucks infinitely more when I stop reading for a while. Or if I read nothing but "Twilight.")

Nice avatar, Holy Ghosts, welcome aboard. I've heard you on C2C and actually have your book Holy Ghosts on my reading list. My son attended a Catholic university that is famously haunted by some saintly and some unholy ghosts, including one spirit on the second floor of a dorm that that no amount of blessings by the clergy can drive out.

And welcome to you astrozombie, great name,  and mccribwich, too. Hope you post often. Be sure to wear your full metal jackets if wandering into the political threads.  ;)

Thanks for the compliment. That's actually a different author you're thinking of--one that happens to have the same main title, but different subtitle and subject matter. Mine is a "case study" of a haunted Evangelical Christian university, in which I look at hauntings all over the world through the lens of that one haunted campus. I end up delving deep into the history of the mysterious Theosophists, who built the place. Feel free to check it out if you like at the webpage www.holyghoststories.com, or on Amazon!

Bienvenido. I want to read your book.

Thanks for the welcome! Feel free to check my book out on Amazon, or on the book's website, www.holyghoststories.com

(I don't know if there is any prohibition on posting links in discussion threads here. If there is--my bad!)

My uncle had an interesting experience at the Hassayampa Inn, in Prescott, AZ. Before I go any further--has anyone else heard the stories about the Hassayampa? Or stayed there yourselves?

My uncle checked into the historic, red brick building in downtown Prescott, and headed upstairs to his room. He left his things on the bed, turned the light on in the room (a habit of his from working on the road; he likes to come back to a well-lit room), and headed downstairs to the bar. He realized he'd forgotten his wallet and went back upstairs to get it. When he entered his room, he realized the light switch was turned off. "Must have been the maid," he thought, and turned it back on. As he was walking down the hallway, he decided to grab his coat too, and turned to go back into the room. He hadn't walked 5 yards from the door, and hadn't left the hallway.
When he walked into the room, the lightswitch was turned off again.

Later that night, my uncle had terrible trouble sleeping. Horrid nightmares, the TV kept turning on by itself. He mentioned it to the bartender the next day. "What room are you staying in?" the bartender asked. My uncle told him.

"Yup, that's pretty close to...to her room." And the bartender explained that this room always gave guests trouble. A century ago, a newlywed couple had checked into that room. The man went out "for cigarettes" and never came back, abandoning his bride at the Hassayampa. After waiting for three days, she hung herself in that very room.

There are some awesome accounts in this thread of unusual dream experiences involving those who have passed on. Many of them remind me of some of the stories in that old reddit thread about "creepy things kids say"...did anyone else read that one?

It's a pleasure to join this illustrious forum.

I am a long-term fan of Coast to Coast, as well as Mysterious Universe and similar programs. (Including "La Mano Peluda," the most widespread Spanish-language program of a similar nature to Coast to Coast. Which unfortunately went off the air a few years ago.) Always fascinated by the mysteries and the unknown that exist in our universe. I've recently released a book about a particular haunted campus, the content of which was heavily influenced by programs like Coast to Coast.

I look forward to reading some fascinating threads on here!

So glad to have found this thread here! I'm a long-time Coast to Coast fan and writer; currently finishing up a book which is a case study of a haunting. "Holy Ghosts: True Tales from a Haunted Christian College". More info at the website, www.holyghoststories.com

I am happy to have joined the forum, and look forward to interesting discussions!
