Kinda follows the biblical maxim that goes: A prophet is never welcome in his own town. (They would rather stone him.)  8)

Stoning doesn't had the umph these days, as it used to do. Nowadays, we prefer throwing beer glasses here in Ingerland  :D

Believe it or not, I've never seen Braveheart.  :o

Christ, I thought the SNP would have made Braveheart a compulsory watch in Scotland.  :D

My question is, does George really believe ancestry.com when it tells him his ancestors include Michelangelo, Charlemagne, King Arthur and Jesus, or is he perpetrating one of those frauds that he's so careful to protect his listeners from?

George would be better referring himself to the programme, Who Do You Think You Are?

There... finally 500 pages.  The only question I have is why George has done thousands of broadcasts and there are only 500 pages dedicated to his suckage?

Not much content to comment on, I suppose. Three years I've listened to him, and the only thing I know of him is that he believes that "there's something going on".

Thank you for noticing.  Here's the story.   I do love Clint's movies from the '70s, and I use his character names for a lot of my online IDs.  So when I came to register in here, I wanted to use a different Clint character that I hadn't used before, and -- Ben Shockley got picked.

You have excellent taste, sir! He's known more commonly for his Spaghetti Westerns and the Dirty Harry films, but I thought The Gauntlet was just as good a film. I think it was one of the many ones that he also directed, as well.

Yeah, we generally say "potaytow" in the UK. I think the only person I've ever heard who pronounced it "potaahtow" was Columbo, at one point.

...blimey, I just realised; how on Earth did I manage to shoehorn a reference to Columbo on a thread about John B Wells!?  :o

Midges? Are you in scotland?
Nice arfur daley avatar by the way.

I'm afraid not, Bob! I live in a rural part of the North of England, right on the border of Lancashire/Yorkshire. I do have Scottish relations at some fairly high up point in the family tree though. I've always been familiar with the term "midgey" ever since I grew up, as a household term for the little perishers. Not quite sure how we came to use it though  :D

Thanks for the compilment on the avatar! Arthur Daley's a national hero :D We should make him Chancellor Of The Exchequer. He'd balance the budget soon enough. (And then flee the country after the UK doesn't have a penny to its name  :D)

Ah, don't worry about it mate; I wasn't being serious either  ;) 'Specially when I've just had the internet conk out on me for the fifth time this week and have been bitten to death by midgeys.

I think I'll have to lie down and light a patchouli joss stick.

Zircon & Oversoul: those were very beautiful and enriching videos. Out of all of those pictures, I couldn't even compile a top five favourite out of them. All of them were simply magnificent, and we're very lucky to observe the wonder around us. Thank you both for sharing them.

Not sure, but it seems quite possible.  I thought she said she previously promoted a "paleolithic diet" but no longer thinks that is good enough and now promotes a "neo-paleolithic diet."  But she did seem to be quite into ice.  She recommended people putting an ice pack between their shoulder blades as a weight loss aid.

Yeah, it sounds like it could be her. I certainly remember something about an "ice-age diet", with reference that "we're all creatures of the ice age" over and over.

Quote from: UFO Fill on July 21, 2012, 04:01:03 AM
I've got her book and think it's pretty good.  Basically, the "neo-paleolithic" part is that she says you don't need as much protein and fat as the paleo folks seem to eat.  She cites a good bit of research showing, I believe, 3-ounces per meal is enough.  She also recommends lower cooking temperatures for everything - steam or boil, don't fry.

If it's definitely the same one that I remember being on, the last time she was on, she was saying that fat/cholesterol was getting a raw deal by mainstream dietitians, and was being lied about in terms of how harmful it is, that they've skewed the data. She seemed quite convincing with that part, but then she started going on about how sugar was pure evil and all things with sugar in it (including fruit) were to be avoided. If sugar was so utterly destructive to the human body, why does glucose enter the small intestine for absorption, when all the waste goes to the large intestine? Why would the human body keep something as evil as sugar to absorb into the blood stream? Don't get me wrong, I'm no dietitian, and I'm probably one of the last people to be consulted on health matters, but with a fair amount of guests on CTC, it seems that rudimentary science is enough to debunk their claims.

That's strange, I've been thinking about getting some stained glass windows. Mind you, I wouldn't be inclined to do it from scratch, following instructions step by step from a DVD...

haaahaha, i love what you put in your center spot, "unable to pronounce a word in a sentence."  it's a sort of "free" spot since it's almost impossible not the wind up stamping that one.  nicely executed.

Haha, thanks MV! That's exactly the rationale I had behind it! Nicely observed!  :D

Wow, tonight's diet guest is quite Noory-appropriate.  He just recommended people drink 15 glasses of ice water the first thing upon getting up in the morning.  Then he went into something about previously living near the Arctic Circle with a pack of wolves.  I am thinking he might even have said a "tribe" of wolves, but I am probably wrong there.

As I recall last week's diet guy was a pretty sensible "eat less, walk more" type who didn't say anything odd, but was about as interesting as listening to the traffic noise.

This guy also sounds female.  Maybe it is a female, in which case she sounds male.  I am going to the website to check out its photo.

P.S.: The site is down, but the first name is "Nora" so I am guessing female.  That's a slight relief somehow.

Was she the one that was on a while back, going on about an "ice age diet", claiming that anything that had a miniscule amount of sugar was inherently evil to the human digestion system? If so, I think I'll give the latest podcast a miss.

You've exactly captured my sentiments, stevesh. Many people would say that "journalistic integrity" was a contradiction in terms, but certainly not in Linda's case. Just a shame that someone else couldn't do the delivering for her  :D

I envy your first dip into the Art Bell stream, Chances. Wish I could go back and take the ride from the start. I really feel his best is securely bolted to '90s era, what with the X-Files, Roswell, Area 51, and the terror of Y2K bouncing around the pulp culture playground. Art belongs in that sandbox. Smoking a cigarette, installing a new antennae array, watching, waiting, KNOWING that somewhere, out on the horizon, a GLOBAL SUPERSTORM was coming. A master of totally-entertaining, full-bullshit theater, he was. Good times. 9-11 and Noory changed everything.

Thanks Pahrump! Wish I could share the feeling with you! As someone who is a self-professed ignoramus when it comes to many paranormal issues, I can't pretend that I'd at this point be as fully immersed into the aura of Art, as you (and others on the forum) probably were when you first started listening. But as someone who does have a flair and an interest for good quality talk-radio, I can see great merit in Art, and I can also empathise with the sense of deterioration in CTC felt by many here, as I too have been present to see other radio manifestations turn from being a bastion of interesting debate into a complete, festering dungheap.

But George Noory has to be the stupidest man to sit in front of a live radio mic

I wouldn't quite go as far as that, Sardondi! There was once a presenter here in Britain who was so stupid, he accidentally gave his mobile/cell phone number out instead of giving the station number! I think he lasted less than 6 months on the air. (Eventually being sacked for homophobic remarks)

Howard Hughes is great! I remember back when he was on talkSPORT in 2005/6. He was a brilliant host with a real outgoing, friendly tone. They had a live seance in the studio I remember, and strangely enough, the show was soon axed afterwards...they replaced him with George Galloway, if I'm not mistaken.

Nice to see he's still around! Must check his new shows!

Alright, I think you've already sold it to me, ziznak! I was listening to the stream where he was taking predictions. I was impressed by his intelligent line of questioning, especially when a caller rang up predicting a monetary and currency union in South America. (Which is strange in itself; though there hasn't yet been a South American currency, a South American equivalent of the European Union has came to fruition since then...)

Definitely great radio!

Yeah, I must admit, it may make for a very quick game on several occasions  :D Which is why there would probably have to be somewhat of a refinement in rules, such as only one type of goof per space. (I.E., not filling up the entire bingo card with mispronunciations) We could always tell Noory to keep the faux pas till later on in the show :D

Radio and Podcasts / Noory Bingo

Hi guys!

Through reading the forum, it would be more than stating the obvious to say that many regard Noory's broadcasting style as being a shadow in comparison to Art Bell's. As someone who has not heard any of Art Bell's broadcasts as of yet, and has heard a lot worse radio than George Noory (believe it or not), I can't fully comment for myself on the matter.

However, I can offer a possible alleviation for the annoyance and disappointment felt by many disgruntled listeners on here. On a forum a few years ago, I used to do this regular bingo thread in relation to a well known spiritualist in Britain who is now regarded by many as a complete fraud. He used to come as a guest onto a radio show and do "readings" for callers. Many of these readings turned out to be a flop at best, and alongside this, he would trot out regular cliches such as "I say this with respect" and his regular message to callers from the beyond the grave, of having "a nan whose hair turned from grey to white". These regular phrases would be noted by us as the programme went on.

Given that Noory has somewhat of a repertoire for using regular phrases, lines of questioning and interviewing, I think something similar could be organised with his shows. Each member, prior to listening to a Noory show, could fill out a bingo card of 9 spaces with regular "Nooryisms" that you think he might say on the show, and then crossing the Nooryisms off the card when/if he says them on the show, with the first member to get three in a row crossed off winning. The bingo card of Nooryisms may look something like this:

Hey everyone!

I am an infrequent British listener to CTC and have been listening on and off for the past three years now. My family regularly listen to it, and I catch the odd show every few weeks or so, if it's on in the same room or if there might be something of interest to me. I've found certain shows and certain hosts/guests very interesting, presenting topics, viewpoints and facts of real value that is worth seriously thinking about. Some of the shows have also just been simply entertaining, and just a worthwhile listen in general. Others, however, have simply exasperated me, or have not lived up to expectation, or have been so much on the lunatic fringe that deep contemplation on them may cause long term damage on the psyche.

As I've read this great forum, I've been very pleased to see that people here have made roughly the same divide as me, when it comes to the wheat and the chaff of CTC.

The best of wishes to you all and I'll look forward to any interactions with you all in the future!
