Radio and Podcasts / Re: Art Bell Quits Dark Matter

So...

I never even got to hear the new show.

How was it? Did it live up to our expectations? Was it (not it's cancellation, but the show as a whole) a disappointment or enjoyable? I haven't read the site in a while, but was surprised at the length of the listen-live threads.

Do you remember when Art hosted the show, callers would often mention how difficult it was to get on the air? How they would call and redial, but just couldn't get through because of the volume of calls the show received?

When Art hosted, there wasn't really a need for George's rules about one call per week/month, because you couldn't get through that many times if you tried.

To me, the fact that Bateman is getting through every show is another indicator of how much the audience for C2C has dropped.

I wonder what his 'sign on' will be. If I recall correctly, he was the one who originally said "I bid you all good evening, good morning, wherever you may be - Across the nation, around the world" and George stole it when he took over.

I'm not sure I can think of a song with such a white-hot, furious, raw energy as this one. Billy Corgan's singing may sound awful, but it's also a crucial ingredient to the performance.

Does anyone remember how after 9/11 happened, Art Bell banned callers and guests who claimed it was an inside job? It's funny how Noory has gotten so close with Alex Jones when you consider that.

Haha, I noticed the 'amazing' comment which Noory says under his breath as she details the dog abuse incidents.

It would be great if there were a Youtube channel dedicated to classic dumb Noory moments, like this one:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyl4vz_george-noory-caught-lying_fun?search_algo=2

There are old C2C shows being constantly put on Youtube, so they can be found. In fact, many of the "documented" quotes came from this July 19, 2007 show, which was just recently uploaded. I didn't listen to it, but it supposedly includes:

"If you raised a baby and beat it and kicked it and yelled at it, it would turn out to be a mean baby?"

"Let me tell you even I have learned some things here I didn't know about."

"If we all had our own solar system, we wouldn't have to worry about that."

"I would guess your mind is part of who you are."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_cTvVIYm14#

I started listening to that to try and dig up the notorious quotes. I got 11 minutes in and gave up though, so boring and lame. I'll give it another try later today.

I absolutely believe he said it. It totally sounds like a something he would say, though I agree it would place among the dumbest things he ever said.

It would be great to actually hunt down the audio of all his worst quotes. Some time ago, a member named Anagrammy was keeping a spreadsheet of infamously bad Noory behavior and would update it nightly with each show. Before that, a guy named Meagle was posting to the forum each day with stand-out quotes from the previous night's show.

But how fun would it be to have a huge audio database of these quotes? Haha.

The old website seemed so cool to me. Am I the only person who would actually visit it every day to see the updates? Or spend a lot of time browsing through the old pages? Of course, when Noory took over it immediately became bland and uninteresting.

I actually think Michael Savage does that with his interviews sometimes. He will play a recording of himself interviewing a guest, but the guests responses sound chopped up and begin/end in weird places. My suspicion is that he has someone else do a long interview, then the best/most interesting responses are taken and they record Savage asking those questions. His voice always sounds normal, and the guest's sounds weird.

I haven't listened to Savage in ages so I don't know if he still does it...Anyone else ever notice that? It's only for short stuff, like a 3-5 minute thing. Not a full hour segment or whatever.

I like the one about how he has a forked tongue.

Snorge plays 1979 from time to time which itself is a great song that brings me back and gives me sentimental butterflies but its nothing compared to this:

Mayonaise - The Smashing Pumpkins

Ah, the Pumpkins. There was a time in my late teens where literally the only thing I listened to was the Pumpkins. I had all the albums, plus all sorts of deep cuts, outtakes, live material, etc.

The closest song I can think of that would really fit as Art Bell era C2C bumper music is this:

I can imagine the first minute or so leading out of a segment late at night or early in the morning.

Perhaps this has already been mentioned but - Along with recently smashing past the 700 post barrier, this thread now has more than one million views.

It's funny you say that.  I think it was brought up a while back here, or maybe another thread, BUT....I am convinced Noory Plays pre-recorded clips to fill time.  This has bothered me for a while.  For instance, there was a particular caller......{and pardon me for the loose description of the call  ;) }..... who described a 'shadow like' figure who had glowing eyes.  This figure approached him and asked if he had a cigarette.  When he spoke to this figure he noticed his eyes glowed red like a demon.  The caller said he was never so scared...blah blah blah.  The caller had a particular accent.  I just remember hearing that call again about two years after I initially heard it!  It perked me up while I was driving.  Kinda like deja vu.  I've noticed a couple instances like this and I am quite certain that I am not confused or mistaken.

Hi Shay - There's actually been a lot of discussion about how Noory often checks out early on Friday night. He ends the interview with the guest, and then the last hour is a replay of a "classic" show. So you are correct that they play pre-recorded stuff.

I haven't listened in so long that I don't know for sure, but I believe they don't announce when they switch to the replays. They just cut over to it and hope nobody notices.

You should change the date from January 31 1997 to whenever the day was that George officially took over.
#21
I'm actually looking forward to see what the next 'End Date' will be. I saw an article once which detailed a big list of dates in the past which were predicted to be the end.
#22
That was going to be my question - Was there ever a time when George went without protection? Maybe in his early days subbing for Art, or when he first took over the show?

I'd believe that account from pretty much everybody here but him. The same person who felt a need to dig up Noory's lawsuits/divorces...just so happens to be in the airport when Noory arrives. Probably he checked flight plans and such.

Hey, if Letterman can have stalkers, why can't Noory?

I don't think it should be too surprising, really. In the last four weeks, I have been in the STL airport eight times. George lives in (or at least often returns to) St. Louis and is apparently a frequent traveler. It's not that big a coincidence that two people living in the same state, departing from and arriving to the same city ran into each other.

What is a little surprising to me is that the plane was from Houston to STL. I had also recently gone from Los Angeles to St. Louis, and if I had to pick one where I would be most likely to run into him that would have been it.

On Monday, I was flying home to the St. Louis airport from Houston. The plane arrived at about 5:45pm. On some of the smaller planes, they will take luggage from you that you normally would be able to carry on and check it. When this happens, you pick up the luggage right at the jet bridge instead of the baggage claim. I was standing in the jet bridge, waiting for the crew to bring the bags over when I looked to my left and saw...George Noory. We made eye contact briefly, then he turned his head.

He was wearing an odd mix of clothes. His shoes were new, fancy looking black and white sneakers, like what you usually see younger guys wear when they play basketball. He was wearing track pants - Black, with two white stripes down each side. The pants were too long and kind of crumpled up at his ankles. He was wearing a black pea coat, which was a pretty strange choice given the rest of his outfit.

I think that he was not wearing his hairpiece that day, because he was a lot more bald than in most of the pictures I've seen. His moustache also had some grey specks in it.

A moment later, the checked bags arrived and he grabbed his and went on his way. I thought about saying something, like maybe just asking something like 'Do you know how long before they bring the baggage?', just so I could hear him speak to confirm it was George . Still, I am 100% sure it was him, and spotting him in St. Louis seems reasonable.

Ever listen to George on headphones? I used to always listen on a portable radio. I never grasped the full extent of George's horrible pronunciation until I started listening to some of the MP3s posted and Youtubes linked to on this forum. The poll in this thread really is true, he can't pronounce anything. There are multiple flubs in literally every sentence. They may be minor flubs, but he is always making them.

Did he seriously call Old Yeller, Old Yellow at some point? I'd believe it.

He has actually called it 'Old Yellow' on more than one show!

And on top of this, Noory has that new TV show beginning soon. We can all hope that he knows he's getting booted and has already made plans for his next gig.

But, speaking honestly, I think that George is going to keep on hosting C2C until whenever it is that his contract expires.

While I was on a "George Noory Sucks" thread on another forum, I came upon this bit of encouraging news in one of the posts:

"Premiere is about to fire George anyway and replace him with a whole new paranormal show. Why? Because NO ONE wants to listen to The George Noory Show, his pathetic 1950's goody-two-shoes nightmare from whence he twisted and dry-humped Art Bell's amazing masterpiece."

Source: https://lunaticoutpost.com/Topic-The-Official-LOP-George-Noory-Sucks-Thread?pid=4111685#pid4111685

Now I don't know if this person is going off of insider knowledge (there was something very assuring and official about their tone) or mere speculation; the wishful thinking of yet another disgruntled listener. Can anyone here confirm the veracity of this claim?

On the 'Talk Radio/Podcasts' section of this forum, there is a thread about how Premiere Radio is going to start syndicating a show called Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis. My understanding is that show currently runs in a different time slot. But, maybe they will drop Noory and just move Ground Zero to the C2C time slot. It's possible. Maybe they are testing the waters with the new show and if it gets a good response, they'll axe Noory.

With all those cases against him, I wonder if there were any arrests or criminal charges.

While there's a lot of other stuff I didn't post, all of it was similar to what's above - A lot of lawsuits.
As far as criminal charges, I didn't see even a traffic violation. That's only for Missouri of course, and it's that he at least had a speeding ticket in neighboring Illinois, his old home state of Michigan, California, etc.

Do we know this for sure?

Unless Mudking knows some additional info, I don't think Lisa Lyons is George's ex wife. She changed her name following the divorce, but not to Lyons.

The biggest surprise to me...and maybe I am late to this party...was that Lisa Noory is Lisa Lyons.

I'm not sure about that. On Casenet, there's a 'Change Of Name' record for Lisa Noory shortly after the divorce, and the new surname is not Lyons. Is Lyons just a name she uses on radio or something?
