"MITD

Here is a update: Heather is doing a great job and simply getting better every day, I am giving her help and advice as we go and it's clearly working, mark my words, she will be a star.

We continue with XDS and we are now looking for a person to handle affiliate's for her. It would start as a volunteer effort but be a paid position once proved. If interested please contact Heather. Radio experience would be great.

Again and this is important, please support the show and keep it on the air by joining the Time Traveler group for just $4.99 a Month. She has more content in every show than the competition and all of you can help by joining.

I agree with pretty much all of the SV assessment. I could be wrong but I think when Art talks about something he can't take back the bridges he refers to that he burned are at the affiliates.  How many program directors had to say "but it'll different this time" and it wasn't.   The rank and file fans will come back to some degree if he does, just like after Sirius implosion. Our of loyalty or just selfish desire, they'd come back, myself included.  The bigger terrestrial stations probably not. I thought the affiliates weren't the goal but it seems that may not have totally been true.

one of the original bellgabbers from may 2008, and only 50 posts.  tip of the hat, sir.

Thanks....I think :-).  I called in last night, that didn't go so well but maybe next time I'll be better prepared or listen to show from the beginning so I don't ask about something already discussed.  I read quite a bit of the material here, it's been understandably overwhelming since December to even keep up.  I'm left with I wish he'd come back, so much wasted potential for what he was building and it was ground breaking, I felt it was really on it's way to being something.  But either way there's no hard feelings about it.

I miss having regular Radio Trainwreck episodes.  I hope you can get back into that.

Felt a little like it was heading for closure...or close to it.

Hi everybody, first the fact that I am now here does not represent a lie since when I last left I simply said I was leaving, not quitting Bell Gab but I am sure it will be said anyway.

Second, I fully understand I reacted far to quickly at a moment I had not slept and was under a lot of stress with what was going on and yes because my Wife had enough and told me it had to stop because it was having a very negative effect on Asia. So I said something I could not take back and that is on me.

Next I want to say sorry to the people on this Forum who supported me in the run up to this show with so much, I understand your hearts were broken but I also want to say that mine was as well because I have been a member here for Years and reading many of the things said here hurt me more then you can know. I will sure cop to making a very bad decision at that time but this felt like home to me. Bad decision yes but lie, never. I never lied to you on air or off, never.

I would be glad to answer any reasonable questions but if people just want to trash me and my Family I will not respond to that sort of thing. Perhaps you do not believe this place was that important to me but you would be wrong, I am not sure it is the same place I remember but my memories of it the way it was are warm.

Art

To Art,

I'm not taking a dig...it just all reminds me of this scene on some level.

Do what you gotta do, one way or the other.  If you decide to come back to the MITD air again, even a few nights a week or on the weekend, I'll listen in. But you'll understand if I'm not going to get all wet panties about it or run out and reactivate my Time Traveler subscription.

I still listen to the streaming archives and probably always will.  For that timeless library of radio, speaking for myself, I am appreciative.

I found bellgab by accident. I was trying to get advice on propper care for a cast iron skillet and somehow  ended up here.

I know where you are coming from.  I was cruising the downtown streets in the red light district looking for street walkers and found coast to coast on the radio.

All I wanted when I joined this site almost 8 years ago was Art Bell back on the radio.  Just a couple nights a week, predictably, would have been fine.  I wanted to take a ride, the guy has unmatchable talent, no doubt about it, that's the attraction.  But I also didn't want to be left in the middle of the desert highway (again) and have to hitch hike home, but I knew the risks going in every time and I'm not surprised now.  Same as I wasn't surprised when the XM situation didn't last or when his shows from the PI didn't last or his weekends only gig on C2C came to an end.  Shit, I remember when he was thankful for Premiere to let him do the weekend shows as a way to help with his mourning process after Ramona's passing, I was actually thankful myself he was back on the air -not under that circumstance but you know what I mean.  Now, like Bellgab, like XM, they are the evil empire.  Doesn't take a genius to figure out who is the common denominator in all that. It's never going to be stable from now on. It's just come to be bullshit now.  As a listener I determined in a "duh dumbass" moment I have 2 things in my power...listening or not listening (and that even depends on if there is something to listen to) and the damn TT subscription.  I said fuck it yesterday...even before Coastgab show happened in I cancelled that.  I thought about buying a T-shirt from the DMDN site, but $25 + shipping seemed like too much.

Ha. Somebody posted that video clip a few days ago when the clamor was getting loud from people (trolls mostly) who were demanding all sorts of "documentation. lol I imagine it is so much like this for poor Art.

The fanbase for both shows shares quirky similarities.  The weirdness of some over zealous fans might get to anyone after a while.  In any case I'm at peace with it all now and whatever direction Art takes - it's his life, not mine.  I've been a listener since the the very late 90's.  I'm not happy about the show situation but I'm not going to grieve or be angry over the wasted potential of MITD anymore.  Heather isn't an every day solution, it isn't personal, there is no replacement solution for this show but Art - that's just the way it is. With the upcoming election year it could have been fun to continue the ride with Art on air but it probably won't happen but if it did I'd still listen to him even after the most recent roller coaster ride but I'm not getting my hopes up.

As an aside I drove back to Florida yesterday from North Carolina for about 11 hours. I did a combination of streaming old C2C shows - 1 of them close to 20 years old, and playing 2 later MITD shows from September and December.  There is more Art Bell out there in the archives than I could probably realistically listen to and even shows from the '90's are still engaging and entertaining for reasons that'd take too much space to really get into here, and most other on the forum probably wouldn't need an explanation anyway.

The wanting is better than the having huh. That explains so, so much. Thanks.

Well, for Art, maybe it really is the case.  Seems the wanting is better for him than the having, it seems like that has been the case for a long time just looking at it from a distance..  For the rest of "us," his fans...maybe Shatner really says it like it really is.

Gotta hand it to him, with some help of others he did build something up to a scale that surprised a lot of people, maybe even himself.  Maybe that was part of the problem.  But he proved he still has it.  Maybe in the end that was enough.

When Mick leaves the Rolling Stones then it's really over.  They aren't Van Halen or Journey, neither is MITD, nor was C2C.  Unless he has a change of heart and pretty soon I think it's really over this time.  Surprised?  No, not really.  Disappointed but not surprised.  Cancel?...no, not yet.  For $5 more and 30 days I'll see how it plays out.

Anyone know a way to get the RSS feed list to show (and play) on a Reciva wifi radio?  I have it working on all my company issued apple...stuff, but can't get it on my Grace Reciva based wifi radio, I'm sure it's something to do with authentication process.

They really need to make it work like a podcast is supposed to work.  I'll just assume they will get it figured out but right now I download the files to my drop box account then I can access them on my phone or ipad or any pc I have hooked into dropbox.

Art's a showman.....maybe it could be another ploy of his to keep up the momentum with drama and fresh dialog while waiting for the first new show.  You know, to stay relevant.  All that talk about what first guest to put on and the sparring match with Noory and shit will only take it all so far and we have (had) a few months to go. But it is Art Bell and he does have a history.  I could be giving him too much credit.

It is easier to change things from the inside than it is from the outside and now he is on the outside.  Ultimatums sometimes backfire.  There had to be at least one or two "I told you so" comments within the program management staff at SXM.

It all makes me kind of wish Art had taken that first deal he decided not to take some months ago because it would have "been for the wrong reasons" to get back at PRN o r whatever the reason was.

Curtis and I will be doing The Spec Sheet podcast at 7PM central. Art's departure will probably be at the top of the discussion list during this episode, so we encourage you all to listen live and call in at 573-837-4948. You can hear the show live at ufoship.com. Log in to enter the chat room, but you don't have to log in if you only want to listen.

Personally I still say you should guest host for Art rest of this week on XM.

Thinking about this for a while it kind of came to me.  Let Art wait XM out or the other way around.  In the meantime get a guest host for the show, like the old days.  Hand over the microphone to someone who wants it.  Honestly, I miss Radio Train wreck, that show was very entertaining AND without a lot of callers anyway.  XM is a free enough format so there wouldn't be a bleeping words out problem.   It might be far from realistic, I don't know, but I say this in all seriousness, MV, maybe this is your big opportunity to actually get paid to do something like this.  You'd have the support of most of this board I'd bet.

I said this in August on this forum and I wished I was wrong, well I guess was wrong, I should have said 6 weeks, not 6 months.  It might be interesting to know the whole story, but I don't think, right now at least, I really care.  I'm not going on anymore rides with Art and being abandoned on the side of the road.  I'm not getting in that car anymore.

"....Perhaps some time off and a new show under a new format like XM will let him get some of that edginess back and have a show worth staying up for again.  Well I'm cautiously optimistic but it's the last ride I'm going on with him.  There's still a part of me that expects him to have some irreconcilable difference with XM program management and in 6 months the show will be gone again. "

I have XM in my car, actually I got a lifetime on that one I can transfer, but they make it complicated.  Anyway, being that I have it in my car they give me the XM internet subscription for $3.50 a month and I can listen on my phone or my internet radios in the house.

Interesting timing.  It's becoming more of a soap opera every day.  No such thing as bad publicity I guess.

a group of people called the "Ghost Investigator Society"
Art Bell had them on many, many times over the years playing tape recordings from various places that might be haunted, hearing voices of ghosts called "EVPs"

Many, many times is right. Too many times IMO.   I'd rather hear the Spiricom tapes again than another GIS show.  The "saving grace" is maybe on XM the digital sound might come through better so when a ghost says "i want potato chips" it won't sound like "who gives a shit"

Honestly his last run shows he did seemed pretty uninspired for the most part and not as riveting as earlier shows that made me a fan, at least in my opinion.  If I'd have started listening only toward the end after his wife died and he came back after retiring for the 3rd or 4th time.... I'd not even be paying attention now.   I think someone here said you could hear the rust in him and that is a pretty good characterization  Perhaps some time off and a new show under a new format like XM will let him get some of that edginess back and have a show worth staying up for again.  Well I'm cautiously optimistic but it's the last ride I'm going on with him.  There's still a part of me that expects him to have some irreconcilable difference with XM program management and in 6 months the show will be gone again.

I really don't want it to be the Art and Michio Kaku show.  I got my fill of that at the end of Art's last run.
GIS only in small doses.  I thought it was overdone
One Ed Dames show where they go through all his BS predictions over the years and show him for what he really is
Unless there's something spectacular to report I'm not interested to hear every night about all the details of how his family 3.0 is doing.
I'd like an update on the Princeton Eggs project and HAARP

I have the "CC Pocket" and it is a POS.  It works, but not very well.  If anyone knows of a good AM radio please let me know.  I have had many of them through out the years and none of them ever performed very well.  That being said.  The "CC Pocket" is the worst of all by far.

For a pocket radio with good AM and a built in speaker the Sony SRF T615 is the one, you have to search to find one and it is pricey.  It's about 3/4 the size of an iphone.

WANNATAKEARIDE......?

Sounds like fun but it depends.  Are you going to leave me stranded on side of the road 50 miles into the trip? Are you even going get into the car in the first place?  And if you do are you even going to start the car and put it in gear?

YAWN is pretty much my reaction to it at this point.

I can fully understand why Art doesn't want a 5 night a week radio show but what about the weekend, even if it was just one night during the weekend, similar to Dreamland?  I guess Art's just not interested in getting back into any kind of a regular radio gig versus maximizing his time with family.

He's shifted gears in his life before and not looked back, examples abound.  I think he finally got it into 6th gear and downshifting ain't gonna happen.  It is what it is.
