I'm with you on this...especially the big news that there is going to be an announcement about a 200 station merge starting Monday... That was from Leo Ashcraft's Facebook...

Also from Leo Ashcraft's Facebook:

Leo Ashcraft Thanks guys - but not to be confused here - Mutual has nothing to do with Art Bell or Dark Matter News. - There is a big announcement coming for Dark Matter News as well as Art Bell coming next week too, Unrelated happenings however. Just serendipitous timing.  :)

Whatever the big news is, it seems like it's an overall positive development for the show, but perhaps with some drawbacks that some won't be happy with.

Rebuilding the trust and interest of his listeners. After last year's Sirius fiasco, there have got to be a lot of people who have simply given up on him. As for me, if he does give it a go again next year, I'll be listening, but I don't think I'll be able to muster the enthusiasm that I had this time last year looking forward to the new Dark Matter show. And he's going to need to venture out from his mainstay guests from 20 years ago. Fresh material is a must.

Had a busy few days just heard you play my bumper track, and the shoutout, "Don't know what that's about" LOL.  ;D  Thanks Steve, so cool to be on the show and yeah a link to my soundcloud would be great.:)

Back to the show...

Threaten the Hoover, I really enjoyed your music on the show the other night and would love to hear more.

So.....I guess it's too soon to be starting the "Bateman quits Dark Weekend" thread?  ;)
As always, I always look forward to the next show, it will be worth the wait!

I'm thinking maybe you should just stick with the duck show, it seems to be more your speed.  :o

I get them too!

Same here! The intro really sets the tone and builds anticipation for the show, then once it starts, it really takes off.  Definitely my favorite.  Great host, interesting subjects and guests, the interviews move along at a nice pace. Add in the great bumper music and Mummer's Dance to close the show, and the whole thing is fantastic from beginning to end. It doesn't even have to be all paranormal, either. I really enjoyed the Nick Sutton show and have listened to it several times.

Your obviously doing something right Steve, or else C2C would not be trying to poach your guests. I would not be too concerned though, you actually prepare for the interview, ask great questions and actually follow up instead of the usual Nooryisims we all know and loath.

Stay at it man, your show is going places!

Agreed! I never miss a show and look forward to each time a new one is posted. Every show so far has been fantastic and the hour goes by entirely too fast. Keep it up!

Does darkweekend.com or darkweekend.net load on anyone's mobile?  I've got a nexus 4 chrome and it just has a spinner that says loading.

Also, can someone provide the podcast RSS link to the show?  Thanks!

At the very least we can take his update to mean that he's engaged the services of an attorney instead of trying to take on Sirius on his own.

Good News! Good News!  Good News!

I just made a deal with the D. .  (not the Producer)

I contacted Sirius listener care and told them if they would get Art Bell back on the air, I will be a paid subscriber.

In that conversation he said that Mr. Bell's channel was one of the most popular ones.  That he looked for him to be back on Sirius soon.  That was from a representative in Listener Care at Sirius.

The message on Artbell.com has been changed to now read: We're hoping to get Art released from SiriusXM contract so he can come back on Internet LIVE Streaming. We already have the technology in place, just waiting for the lawyers.

It definitely seems as though all ties to Sirius in any form have been severed.

Some of Art's bumper music from his young lady.  Waiting for the times to get better while continually refreshing Artbell.com. :(

Is there no one in his life, either personal or professional, who is willing or able to talk some sense into him? I understand he's frustrated with the glitches and seems disappointed that perhaps the show hasn't taken off like he had hoped for, but his actions are very premature and over the top. Maybe he thought he was going to pick up where he left off with Coast to Coast, I don't know, but ten years is a long time and it takes time to rebuild. The show is good and got off to a solid start, and if he was willing to put in the time necessary, I think he really could have made Dark Matter into what he wanted it to be. It's such a shame and he's seemingly throwing it all away. I just don't understand why it has to be all or nothing.

Thankfully only the cost of one month. I don't care so much about that, my only hesitation with signing up with Sirius was everything I had read online about the hell they put you through when you try to cancel. I stupidly thought I wouldn't have to deal with that until three years down the road.

Might as well get used to it. This is how it's going to play out until he dies, with a diminishing number of people caring with each passing announcement.

I was furious yesterday. Now I've just given up in disgust and am simply laughing at the absurdity of this whole fiasco. The minute he started talking about taking off for the Philippines, I had that sinking feeling that he was out of here, despite his talk about being able to continue the show if he moved. He made a mountain out of a molehill to provide himself a way out of something he for whatever reason came to regret getting into. As a longtime listener, I've had enough of his walkouts and am DONE, as is he.

In other words, Stay Tuned, once again.

It's probably useless. There's been a petition going on for months to try to get Sirius to bring back Book Radio, which they coincidentally dropped at the same time as they announced that they were bringing Art Bell on board. They won't budge on that and they're not going to budge on this either. And sadly, even if it did happen, I think we all know deep down that there would just be some other problem down the road anyway.

Anger, gradually moving into acceptance. I love his old shows, I'm just going to go back to those and try to forget this whole Dark Matter fiasco.

I keep thinking of the woman who called up on the first night of the show and was nearly in tears, saying Art Bell, don't you do that to us again! And yet, here we are once again.   :-[

I've been reading here for a while, but first time posting. I'm near tears. This is such a betrayal to his loyal fans.  So glad I didn't buy equipment or commit to a one-year subscription like I was originally going to.  I guess I'm only out two month's worth of fees for this nonsense. I honestly wish he had never come back to radio. The workup over the summer leading up to his announcement was a lot of fun, but this is a letdown in the extreme. I can't imagine that there will be a second comeback, and even if there was, I'm done being taken for a ride. This is the end of the line.  I guess it's back to U7 and torrents. At least he can't mess with us there.
