Snoory is giving Art a 3 minute plug. As much as I dislike Jorge, he did a very classy thing.

Anybody notice C2C is having a shit-ton of split shows these days? Must be to benefit Jorch since he can't interview anybody no matter who it is for a full show without it becoming boring as hell due to his overall dull nature and interviewing skills.

C2C has been doing splits for quite some time now. That's when I started to clue into Noron's deficiencies (yeah, I'm damn slow). Your assessment is spot on -- deluge with commercials, multiple guests, less time for George to clown without makeup.

Malachi -- thanks for the Art chat recap!      :: thumbs up ::

As much as I regret at times not being born in the great Dominion state, Martinez is hardly south of Washington, not even the Inn.

Why the hell did I think you were in Pittsburgh?

Why the hell am I asking you why I'm brain damaged? Gah, definitely bed time...

Still, have a drink for me. The strongest stuff I take these days is valerian (I found Coz's stash).

Yeah ring. I didn't even want to come back to this forum. It's ruining my productivity.

Good luck on your interview. :)

Thanks! It's all but a formality now as it's third interview with the company... I do a tour, piss in a cup, wait for the official phone call.

Funny, I started this process two months ago -- the job is more money but more importantly would coincide perfectly with DM's live schedule. Was really looking forward to a new gig with unfettered access to Dark Matter.

Now? Blah... nothing to see here, move along.

I read the stuff about $noory being on 104 and got up and stepped on my cup with my name on it which my Mother gave to me the week I moved in here.
And it was my drinking booze cup too.
Now its in about 10 pieces, damnit.
I didn't see the thing and stomped on it.

I need a drink. Now to go get the unbreakable aluminum glass from the 1950s.

>:( >:( >:(

Curse you Noory !

Have a drink for me, Falkie... I'm just south of you in little Washington.

Tonight's been even more chaotic than usual because Art logged on, said he was going to grab some dinner... then the Calamitous Channel 104 Incident of 2013 occurred.

I've got an interview in in 8 hours and gotta hit the sack. Dang it. This bites.

They're also not promoting C2C as exclusive to their network.

Then drop the exclusivity and let Art go the independent streaming route. If they absolutely, positively must have Art as an exclusive "franchise" voice because they value his brand that much, then fix the streaming issue.

Let me get some facts straight:

Art requested a free stream on his site for the live show only, until SXM fixed their streaming issues.
- SXM said no

Art offers to be an independent broadcaster, exclusive to SXM w/the stream on his site
- SXM has no response

SXM makes a deal to run C2C, a free broadcast show w/free streaming via iHeartradio, TuneIn, etc. on Indie 104?

Remember all the squawking that Sirius would NEVER let Art stream for free and have a presence on 104?

Don't hear too much from those folks now.

Yes, I thought it was SXM that gave C2C the boot, not Premeir leaving SXM.  I thought C2C got booted at Art's behest after his guest poaching tirade.  I heard George that night, he was very clearly taken aback he'd been dropped.

Maybe my memory is faulty here, but I thought c2c was removed from the Sirius lineup prior to Dark Matter's debut on September 16.

How do we know Art's agreement with SXM wasn't contingent on them removing C2C and other paranormal shows (like Ground Zero, I believe) in order for him to become their flagship program in that area?

And if that IS the case, and their agreement is no longer in force, why shouldn't SXM be able to go back to their old programming?

As much as your (and Malachi's) incessant bitching/Negative Nancy routine gets old, you're absolutely spot on here.

C2C was on Sirius before Art. Sirius drops C2C and brings Art on board. Art leaves Sirius. Sirius brings C2C back in the fold.

How the fuck is that Machiavellian? Sirius is back where they were in summer 2013 with C2C back in the line up.

I'm with Art in holding Sirius accountable for the streaming issue, but I don't see how this is skullduggery.

Art-

Comments?

Duke, I remember (might've been a few days, maybe a week or more) before Art announced where he was officially ending up there was conjecture it was with Lew Dickey and Cumulus. Cumulus has been making moves in certain markets and radio hosts, and when I read that Ross Mitchell had signed with Cumulus I thought, there it is... fait accompli. Art's going with Cumulus.

When Art announced he had landed on Sirius I was stunned.

As I recall, Dreamland was on my radio on Sunday nights.  I think some markets ran the previous week's Dreamland in a Saturday night slot, though.  I seem to recall that, but I might be remembering incorrectly.

When I lived in Phoenix (late 90s) they replayed the previous Dreamland on Saturday night.

Has anybody ever had a 402 "Keep Listening" Error?

I just had an error where my Sirius iPhone app said I was logged in on another device and would I like to Keep Listening.

I haven't logged into any other device or my PC since Spooky Matter.

Now I can see why Art quit. Damn you Sirius. Damn you all to hell.

No, Jaz, it's all in your imagination, Sirius streaming is perfect, Art's just a lazy, narcissistic bastard with a bad back.

Bad sarcasm aside, my iPhone streaming was perfect, my home streaming via broadband was wonky. I streamed Bell back in '96 on my 56k.

Awful lot of this goin' on here for 300+ pages: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cognitive_biases

Again, I'm not going to assume my experience is the norm. Folks had sirius streaming problems pre-DM and post-DM. No idea whether it's isolated or widespread.

You make it sound like Art was forced into chains of bondage or something.  Like Sirius is literally holding this man hostage, forcing him to broadcast Dark Matter at gunpoint.  The reality is that this man entered into a consensual obligation with SXM, most likely only after lengthy negotiations.  Especially after getting fucked over by PremRad, you would think he would prepare himself for getting into this.

And you make it sound like contracts/agreements are one way streets.

Sirius obviously held up their end of the bargain in regards to the studio and creative control. Streaming? Maybe, maybe not. We weren't inundated with hundreds of emails saying 'I can't stream your show.'

How could Art know whether or not Sirius' infrastructure could handle the load? Was he supposed to call 10,000 of his closest friends and ask them to sign an NDA and beta test a secret Sirius channel simultaneously and let him know if they had problems streaming?

No, there's this good faith understanding that's Sirius' infrastructure can handle the load, and conversely Art would deliver the goods and not sit in a corner with a coloring book, eating Elmer's glue for 4 hours like George.

I don't agree with Art's methods. But I don't question his motivations. Art delivered with the talent. Sirius didn't deliver on the streaming.

My iPhone (4G/LTE) was flawless. My home broadband was a nightmare. Not a 2400 baud modem. I deal with SQL server clusters, so I'm not a total clusterfuck when it comes to technology.

Granted, the feral guinea pig that powers my router keeled over September 17, so Sirius may be in the clear.

If streaming is allowed on his website and there are still "...Is it me?", poor sound quality callers that never make a point - then where should the blame fall?

I don't think the 'is it me?' was an issue related to the streaming debacle, but the way the sirius/line handles the callers. Call in to a radio show (at least the one's I've called into) and it's audibly obvious as there's a click and a change in tone... while you're on hold it sounds like you're listening to the radio through your phone (i.e., sounds heavily bandpassed); when you're live, it sounds like you're taking part in a normal phone convo. Sorry for the lame explanation.

From what I gather, there isn't an audible demarcation when calling a Sirius show (or at least Art's live studio line).

Callers not getting to the point -- Art doesn't suffer fools. Shit or get off the pot, Margaret, I got a show to run.

This is all so surreal. Six weeks ago, we practically shat our pants with delight in the live threads. Art quits, this place explodes, Art goes dark, then comes on, George calls into MV's podcast, Art parts with a serious(?)/sarcastic(?)/fishing for sympathy(?) post. What kind of fucking JJ Abrams timeline have we been rebooted into?

As lame as this sounds, I *really* wanted some full-on moonbat ISON coverage this November.

They've been stale. Art usually made it interesting.

One of the reasons why I quit listening to C2C... stale genre handled by an insipid, oatmeal-mouthed host. Can't count the times I would go to the C2C site to look at the show's upcoming schedule and the guest was some bland paranormal/new age/spiritual/quasi-quantum bullshit blend.

How will Art doing a stream on his website fix this? Whatever he charges for will be pirated. No paid model will work.

Art, like many others, can run an interrupt-free stream which apparently Sirius can't/won't figure out.

Said stream is available to anyone on the internet, not just US/Canada/Andrew in Australia (just kidding, hi Andrew)

Art wouldn't be making money from subscriptions, he would be making money from his advertisers. Pirating is moot.

Bell is a radio icon, and will continue his show on the web.  It is unfortunate that SiriusXM could not match up to his needs.

So dark matter isn't over?????

Someone posted here a convo over at Facebook (iirc) stating 'Art, if you wanted FREE, you shoulda gone terrestrial radio' and Art responded with a 'that may just happen.'

Paraphrased, of course.

How all this plays out with a Sirius no compete I have no idea. If the Sirius streaming was an issue, could it be an escape hatch?

Plus the ass licking sycophants like me on one side, and all the negative Nancy "I told you so!"s on the other... who the hell knows how this will play out.

What's the name of that distant second Clear Channel competitor, the guy/company who recently made major moves in the NYC market and was supposedly in talks with Art? Cumulus? I think that's them.

If Cumulus wanted Art bad enough...

It's easy being negative, really. You see sports fans do it all the time... they're emotionally fragile, can't handle disappointment, they call the Steelers having a losing season before it even starts and sure enough, flood the forums with 'told you so, Roethlisberger has **NO** offensive line you fools!' (sorry non-USians, too tired/stupid to craft a 'true' football or cricket or whatever-the-eff analogy right now).

Calling it now, freaks -- Art back on terrestrial radio by January 6, 2014.

(and retires for good by Q3 2014)

Well, received MV's email while at work tonight. Half-stunned yet oddly not surprised... I sort of ignored it until I could get home and just plowed through 53 pages here.

When Art mentioned the night before Halloween that he had a big announcement to make, that he was going 'all in', my eternal optimism kicked in. Thought to myself HELL YEAH, Art is going 5 days a week, or they will now have weekend hosts (Knapp? Could it BE???), or, what I was really hoping for... Art had mentioned early on that hey, you never know, we may get our own dedicated channel here with 24 hours of paranormal/weird radio.

When he announced the asking Sirius for free streaming thing on 10/31, it was a non-event for me. I work while Art broadcasts. No biggie. I paid my subscription fee and listen thru my phone.

Not sure how I feel about all this. Definitely disappointed. Not really angry at Art or Sirius. Don't really get the resistance to Art streaming for free... yes, it goes against Sirius' business model. If it's getting pirated, wtf does it matter anyway if Art's subscriber attrition comment is accurate?

Streaming has been an issue at Sirius. Talk to O&A fans, or read the live show threads here. How big of an issue? No clue. I've had no problem on my 4g iPhone. That doesn't vitiate someone having constant 1001 errors. Conversely, someone squawking on the interwebz about dropped connections doesn't make it endemic either.

I do think this show, more than others due to demographics/time slot, probably hammers Sirius streaming more than others. I can't believe that Sirius wouldn't have their collective shit together enough to handle tens of thousands of Art Bell fans.

I get Art's point about it affecting callers, and wanting to reach international listeners. I also don't read at all Art blaming 'shitty callers' or truckers, etc... I think people are upset and reading something that isn't being implied. I dig that, but I'm not reading that.

Still... this totally feels like Art fumble-fucked this. Image is everything, and it looks like he said 'eff it, taking my ball and going home.'

My lame quasi I know what the hell I'm talking about assessment -- Art sees the subscription number renewal fall off the cliff. Art sees the possibility of a cancelation. Art counters with hey, people aren't re-upping do to a streaming issue (on top of piracy), let's stream for free (live only), people still pay $15/month for the value added BS like show archives. Sirius says no. Art says fuck you.

Art sees how Skype can integrate easily, sees how he can instantly reach anyone worldwide with an internet connection, maybe Keith blows some smoke how his 12-y.o. nephew could setup a streaming server, Art talks to Alan Corbeth (sp?) and a few other industry friends on keeping revenue in-house, Art sees himself making more $ by offering the show for free (how any of this jives with whether there is/isn't a no compete clause, I have no clue).

If Sirius streaming really, truly is an issue, I'm not sure how this was Art's fault not knowing this ahead of time. On the other hand, it seems like Art should have put a lot more thought into this before putting ink to paper.

For all the idiots like me who will listen to Art read the Pahrump yellow pages on a weekly podcast, you got the butthurt crowd out there.

6 weeks? Serious misfire if he wants to (and legally can) start another venture sans Sirius. He spent most of his currency/legacy/goodwill/reputation on this Sirius debut.

How many people will show up for Art Bell 2.0 (or is that 3.0? 4.0? 5.0?)? Me? Definitely. Anybody else? That's anyone's guess.

It's like September 15 all over again -- George Noory *still* sucks.

What a great show. And coming here, soaking in the buzz and excitement. Couldn't have hoped for a better launch for Dark Matter.

The only **sliiiiight** disappointment was Art's announcement concerning the weekends, but I suppose that's better for newcomers. Still holding out hope that Knapp might fill a Sunday night slot.
