Quote from: pyewacket on March 01, 2014, 09:48:15 PMTwo hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?".

The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead."

There is a silence, then a shot is heard.

Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?"

Quote from: Pragmier on September 26, 2012, 12:09:37 PMOf course he can still win, but noting declining poll numbers, what seems like an unfocused campaign, and inability to decisively best Obama on the economy, was Romney really the most electable? I'm starting to wonder specifically about Huntsman. Forget the getting past Tea Party aspect; I find it hard to believe Huntsman wouldn't have pulled in many more independents and Democrats. The tax returns issue would be gone; the out-of-touch rich guy tag would not stick; foreign policy - although he worked for Obama he'd claim expertise. He didn't pass universal healthcare so that's one less weakness. Just seemed like a very solid candidate.

I'd like to see him run again - and would have jumped the Democratic ship to support him now.

Quote from: ponyboysunset on March 01, 2013, 05:18:13 AMI have two stories. 1st one, the record store I used to work in is in Michigan, not to far from Detroit. Before Kid Rock was big he would bring his stuff in on consignment. He was very polite, and kind, used to buy all kinds of vinyl. (We sold vinyl, it was awesome!)

Second story, I met Tori Amos before a concert in 2007-08ish. She was awesome. She signed items for about 30 of us, and talked and took pictures for about an hour. She was tiny, and very pixie like. Hard to believe that voice comes out of that tiny woman :)

Quote from: PKaiser on March 09, 2016, 07:51:43 PMHey all, I know I haven't posted much but have been lurking again because I just had a quintuple bypass open heart surgery (don't do that if you don't have to) and I just wanted to thank ALL of you for keeping a smile on my face over the past week, not to mention the past four months or so. I mean, this shit is GREAT, better than a movie!

Looking forward to convalescing while reading bellgab and can't wait to see the shit fly one way or the other regarding Art's "impending" appearance on MitD!

Quote from: Pirate King Atomsk on May 26, 2008, 06:37:24 PMI've had at least one possible experience. I was surprised to find it was a very common one, too - thanks to C2CAM.

I was probably 8 years old or so when I awoke from sleeping in a cold sweat and numbing sensation all over my body. I felt an extreme sense of terror when I realized I was awake, but couldn't move. I attempted to call out to my parents, but unfortunately, I couldn't speak either. At the height of my struggling, an old, witch-like face of a decrepit woman  loomed in towards me and screamed like a banshee right in my face. As she did this, it felt as if all the energy I had in me was sucked directly out of my body. I don't remember what happened after that for awhile, but when I regained full consciousness she was gone, and I could move (ever so slightly)..and speak, even though it was very weak and raspy. My parents soon came in to my calling out for help, and (as any sane parent would), they told me it was one of my frightmares and I was fine. But since that night, I've never felt quite the same health-wise.

Years and years later, I discovered that what I experienced has happened throughout history in an almost exactly similar fashion. It's referred to by medical professionals as 'sleep paralysis", but there is no exact explanation as to the almost ever-present appearance of the woman during this event. Due to this fact, many others call it the 'Old Hag Syndrome".

Apparently, as the story goes, the old hag visits primarily young males and takes their youthful energy for her own purposes. There's supposed to be something specifically about the energy of males. I believe on one of Art's shows, someone said that it's because she does something "sexually" to the victim.

So, long story short, I may have been raped by a witch.

Quote from: PerfectTommy on May 04, 2015, 06:14:05 PMI don't know what it was called, but the guy freely passing it around said it had Red Bull in it. I remember he looked a lot like Christopher Walken.

Afterwards, I lost pretty much the entire evening. The following morning my guts were roiling, a jackhammer was pounding in my brain, and my friends were muttering about having to leave a particular establishment, never to return again.

Looking back, it probably was not a wise move to drink Christopher Walken's pickle juice.

You have lots of posts out there, pate. That's what I look for in finding fun posts to quote. You can't believe how many members will have a single post and that's it. Sadly, due to time constraints, I don't read them. I stick with members who have at least five pages of posts. That way I have more of a chance to find something good to put in the thread.

Quote from: SredniVashtar on September 28, 2022, 02:53:38 AMBarry Foster, otherwise known as Van der Valk (cue that music!). I suppose that role was a bit of a two-edged sword because when he died he was just known as 'that guy who played Van der Valk', which was a bit of a shame. I have a vague memory of him in an episode of Inspector Morse too and he was very good in that. I think he was also the villain in that Hitchcock film 'Frenzy'. One of those underrated actors, definitely. A bit like Harry H Corbett, who ended up being known for one role in a sitcom, but at one time he was tipped to be the next Brando.

The East End has an odd attitude towards its villains. The Krays were a notoriously nasty pair, but they are still regarded as heroes in certain parts of London because they were nice to their mother and beat up some of the other villains. That attitude probably goes back several hundred years to people like Jack Shepherd, who were regarded as folk heroes by the locals for the all the times he managed to get out of prison. Quite often, when they were hanging criminals they would ride through London in all their finery and wave to cheering crowds on the way to the gallows. Peter Ackroyd has written a book all about London, if you're interested. Tyburn, where they used to hang most of them, is now known as Marble Arch. Smithfield, which is now the main meat market in London, used to be the place that they burned heretics back in the 17th Century. There's all sorts of interesting history to be found in London.
I am very interested in that Ackroyd book, plus the one about George Davis.  I noticed a number of books about the Tyburn 'Tree'... might go for one of those while I'm at it.  One of the things I like about London is it's fascinating history.  Appreciate it, Sredni.

Quote from: SredniVashtar on September 27, 2022, 02:20:41 AMYou're welcome. Here's annuver about the Cockney accent, which is 'ow you speak if you are born wivvin the sahnd o' Bow bells. That being the church of St Mary le Bow in Cheapside.

You'll see a bit of graffiti in the first few minutes saying 'G Davis is innocent'. That refers to an armed robber called George Davis, who certainly wasn't innocent, but he had a big following at the time and some of his supporters once dug up a cricket pitch in the '70s and ruined a Test match as a protest about him.
Love those Cockney accents, but then I love all things London, England. A favorite English actor, the late great Barry Foster spoke with a Cockney accent in some of his rolls. I guess he was just acting though, because he grew up in West London.

I appreciate the info on Mr. Davis. Did some digging and his first wife wrote a book about him. The Wars of Rosie: Hard Knocks, Endurance and the 'George Davis Is Innocent' Campaign in 2008. I'm thinking of purchasing a copy of it on Amazon.

This is a fascinating little news report all about a vanished side of London. There are a few left but not many now. It shows how accents have changed over a few short decades too. Well worth a few minutes of your time.

That was a fun video, Sredni.  Thank you.

Quote from: pate on March 02, 2014, 12:10:14 AMJust 'ave to be a bit of a troll here...  An old friend of mine who happens to be a "double E" (electrical engineer) took particular umbrage at the use of the 'word' "wattage"...  He had some sort of technical explanation as to why 'wattage' isn't a word other than as a colloquialism, &c.

I know, on a Noory Sucks forum, comments about misuse, mispronounce &c seems a bit superfluous, but still...
