0 cards.

I can think of one or two, but Art may not have them in his hand.
A press release by the S.O. indicating there is an ongoing investigation, etc. couldn't hurt. However, the Sheriff isn't going to put his credibility on the table if he doesn't have facts supporting said statement and investigation.

rekcuf I don't think he will either.

He's dug himself a hole now, and he is stuck in it. He doesn't have many cards to play to redeem himself.

Here is my take, FWIW.
I joined here last summer when word got out He was returning for real.
I got to hear the "test night" before he went full on live. I will admit I was very hopeful that this was going to become as special as it was back in the days when I found Art, 1992ish. It really did seem to be headed that direction. I signed up as a Time Traveler the first day, wanting to help reassure him the core audience was still here.
After this past week, and looking at the log from NCSO about the 3rd report of shots fired and didn't see where the responding officers found any evidence of same, I just don't know.
I spent 26 years in law enforcement.
Something like this happens to someone like Art who happens to live in our jurisdiction and the gloves go off, the overtime sheets are authorized and the problem is solved.
I can't imagine doing it any other way.
From what I've read there were 3 incidents. If they all involved shots fired after #2 we would have had a team out there working the situation, every night all night until the suspect was in custody. Period, end of story. I can hear the boss now.
"This man is no different than a guy running a small business in our town, gentleman. with the exception he is famous. There is no way in hell our failure to do our job is going to be the cause of this business closing down. Develop a plan, get the people together, and fix the problem. Do it now. We are not going to have some nutcase shooting him, his neighbors or anyone else."
Now, if this was the case I am sure the cops would have told Art to keep quiet about it on the air, and just go about his normal routine so that the SOB wouldn't be spooked or alerted that the cops were in the brush loaded for bear.
We may not even have told Art we were out there.
So, I dunno.
I'd like to believe the man. I'd also like to believe the Art I know would move his wife and child into town someplace safe for a couple of weeks, then put an giant inflatable FU finger in the yard, and let the cops do their thing.
His response seems out of character.
Then, I think again.
The man is 70 years that old. He points that out pretty frequently.
He may just not be ready to play hardball. He is 70, has a young wife and a young daughter that is rightly the light of his life.
But, he has left us in such a way that leaves us all wondering what the heck happened. Some of you folks here have put in a tremendous amount of effort supporting him. If he decided at some point decide M-F was too much for him, he should have simply stated so to us. If he was dealing with a criminal situation he should have worked with the cops.
If there was family pressure to quit or slow down, he should have told us.
I believe that if Art had wanted this to go on it would have. For whatever reason I don't think he does.
I hope some day he tells us. It would be nice to finish clean.

Here is the email I sent to the FM classic rock station in Sacramento. I think your MITD on a classic rock station in the late night hours would be a natural fit.

Hi,

My name is XXXXXX, I live up in the Grass Valley area, I am 57 and have been listening to the Eagle since my days living in Rocklin going to Sierra College.
That was some 35 years ago, So I guess I am a long time listener, LOL
At night I faithfully listened to Art Bell, I am sure you remember or know of him, he was the creator of "Coast to Coast AM", a legendary light night radio program now hosted by a guy taking it in a much different direction. It has lost its soul and is no longer the show Art created.
Well, Art Bell is back. His new show, "Midnight in the Desert", is being sent out in digital stereo via the net and sounds simply awesome. Art hasn't lost a step, and is really on his game, with all of the amazing classic late night radio stuff he hooked me and millions of other listeners with back in the 90's.
Here is the deal.
He is also setting up an XDS radio feed which would allow The Eagle to broadcast his show, in stereo.
I cannot imagine a better match than Classic Rock all day and into the evening followed by Art's show exploring all of the stuff that he delves into....everything from Bigfoot through UFO's. Your listeners are the kind of people who, by nature, are going to be interested in this stuff, and late at night...well...imagine the possibilities. I think this can be a special opportunity for The Eagle.
I looked and have seen no other indication that any other terrestrial radio station in the Sacramento area has picked up on this yet, the closest is a Fresno station...so you folks have a chance to jump on this and lock it down.
One way or the other, I will be listening to Midnight in the Desert with Art Bell, as will a lot of other fans of The Eagle.
I really hope I am hearing him on "my station", 96.9 The Eagle...

.......

I will follow this up with a call later on.

I've been a listener since C2C hit KFBK in Sacramento in the first days of the show, mid 80's?
On the rare nights we were not up to our butts in alligators you kept a lot of cops working graveyard shift awake and entertained, as October approaches I think an "special line" for current or former police officers with ghost stories could yield some interesting stuff. MITD is a breath of fresh air and I am thankful that Art has returned.

Was disappointed in the no-show last night, but all in all the launch of MITD has been, for the most part, pretty dang smooth IMHO. Considering that all of this new stuff being delivered in a new way from rural Nevada I have to tip my hat to the people who have set it up.
Can it get better, absolutely. And it will.
I am 57 and a classic rock radio listener, and I think that Art's show and FM classic rock are a natural fit. I will be contacting the station in my area and pitching the show. More ways to get the show can only be a good thing. For those who have done it, we know there is nothing like listening to a classic-in-the-making Art Bell show on the car radio while cruising across the high desert on a lonely highway in the night, no tail lights in the windshield, no headlights in the mirror..alone.
I recommend U.S. 50 from Fallon, Nevada to Delta, Utah if you want the full effect. Plan a late spring trip, with a full moon or no moon, and find a place to pull over when it feels right and just let it wrap around you...
Now that Art is broadcasting in stereo, it can only get better.

Random Topics / Re: Music

I find that the much of the music I love is inextricably attached to memories I have that are associated to the people and places and times when I heard it.
My Dad played guitar, I still have his Gibson EM125, he paid $600 for it in 1964, when I was 6 years old. That was a ton of money for a machinist with 2 kids and a stay at home Mom to drop on a guitar in 1964.
It is the Starburst pattern, and in very goose day shape. Still has the original pickups and controls. Sounds like pure heaven.
At 12, he bought me a used tricked out Strat Copy and a year of lessons with a very accomplished local guy. I did okay, and the summer nights at home when Dad was playing lead, me rhythm, and one of his friends from work  on 4-string bass are memories I wouldn't trade for the world.
I haven't played in years but clean guitar work and very tight 3 part harmonies still rock my world. Roy Orbison and the writing he did....pushing the limits of popular music as he did will always be a personal hero.
Chris Botti, (a jazz trumpeter) can make that instrument do things I cannot believe. I've seen him live several times and he can entrance an audience like few artists can.
The late Toy Caldwell, lead singer of the Marshall Tucker Band had a voice that, when combined with the music of the band, sounded like he was speaking to us right from the 1880's.
I can sit down and listen to almost any form of music...there are some people in this world who are deeply touched by good music; it seems their ears take the music someplace other than where most people hear it.
I am one of those. Good music stirs my soul.
If I can listen with my eyes closed, so much the better.

Started lurking when the word got out Art was coming back from the Sirius mess, I was unable to hear him on that due to limited internet where I live.
That has changed... I joined up here last week. Then I did the Time Traveler deal.
Been listening to Art for many, many years. Back in the 80's he was a voice in the night on long miserable winter graveyard shifts, and I stuck with him til his last C2C broadcast. Missed him a bunch, very happy to have him back.
You long-timers on this forum who helped push and worked so hard to help get the word out and have supported him for so many years have my thanks.

Radio and Podcasts / Re: Ugh. NO CO HOSTS PLEASE!!

Like most of you folks I listened to Art for a very long time "back when". When we all heard Art was returning, and doing so under conditions that seemed to give him the power we want him to have, I know I was thrilled.
Having lurked here for 6 or so months I have no issue with Redacted, I think she has the makings of a force in this field.
I suspect the blowback she is feeling is from folks who did not want to hear any other voice than Art's on that side of the mic last night, and who will probably feel that way for awhile.  I think letting the show take a set, letting the audience find Art and giving Art some time to get into comfortable with the tech "set up"...then perhaps there is a place for Redacted in the MITD deal.
I hope Art finds a way to give her a chance to find a fit. She certainly sounds like a sharp enough lady that she can contribute, and in the event there isn't a fit, I'd like to see her having had a legit shot at the thing before a final yea or nay is posted on this thing.

First post and all...
Been lurking for about 6 months when I got word The One was returning. I have listened to him since the mid eighties and he was a great companion on long graveyard shifts. Last night, during the test my wife said the grin on my face was frozen in place for the whole three hours...
So this afternoon I signed up as a time traveler and signed in here.
Can anyone tell me where to find the wormhole port for time travelers on the "inside page" once you've logged in as a Time Traveler? will it reappear during show hours or what?
Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen, I look forward to much fun conversation here...
