In my opinion Art is simply lazy, nothing more complicated than that.

I know, it's harsh, but I've had months to think about Art's last move, and it still doesn't sit right that after all the excitement, praise for SiriusXm and all the rest, he gives them an ultimatum which, unsurprisingly, wasn't accepted, and quits. He didn't have a strong hand to play, and I wonder if after all this time he realizes that yet.

Maybe Art is just tired. When he quit XM my first thought was "laziness." He had forgotten how much work was involved and simply looked for a way out. Maybe I'm wrong, it could also be he's just a quitter. I listened to him faithfully when he was the only game in town but now the competition is huge. I wish I could send him the bill for my sirius subscription.

All that being said, I will still download his podcast - if it becomes reality.

George N, is not my cup of tea but I see he gets hammered a lot in this forum. I don’t think he’s an idiot, even though it seems that way sometimes. GN is a professional radio host. He caters to his audience and says what he thinks they want to hear. I believe with all my heart that GN believes his audience is comprised mostly of misfits, lunatics, and shut ins. He’s wrong but as long as his numbers are (somewhat) strong he has no reason to believe otherwise.

Art Bell was never condescending. He asked the questions he was curious about and for that he always came across respectful to his audience. I am disappointed with Art’s string of retirements but I would welcome him back to fill the void he created with his last retirement.

C337, I didn't know there were any skymasters left. Haven't seen one in 30 yrs.

Is it possible Art was looking for a way out of his contract? I know there were technical issues but they were not universal. I had no problem listening to his entire show uninterrupted.

Sometimes when we’re not working for a while we forget how difficult it can be. AB had been out of the game for a long time. Then his life takes a dramatic change, it’s back to work - show prep, the show, commercials, bumper music, etc etc. He may have quickly realized it’s not as much fun as he remembered. Maybe it’s a simple case of being tired? I have enjoyed AB over the years and we even talked a couple times in the 90’s.

My feelings are mixed. I enjoy his programs but I do feel a bit betrayed. I bought Siriusxm and an FM transmitter just for his show. If he does come back it may take a while for him to regain the full trust of his core audience.

I’m sure this has already been discussed but please don’t make me read through 16,728 posts, can some one tell me what the current rumors are about AB coming back to radio? I have no doubt there are people on this forum that have some inside information. Thanks.

1.  I’m sure Art is able to pay his bills just fine.
2.  No one has “enough” money.
3.  It’s really no one’s business but Art, his wife and the IRS.

Hope AB comes back to radio.
