Not.

He's just an old guy who's had it.  He wishes he had his old drive to succeed.  But he just doesn't.  Every few years, he thinks the drive has come back.  But it hasn't.

It's sad he has to end his career like this.  Because he was such a great broadcaster in his day.  But that was then, and this is now.  And never the twain shall meet.

Art Bell is one of the premier broadcasters of our age.  Heather Wade is an amateur.

There's no way to navigate that transition without feeling let down.

My notion is have Art Bell come back.  Do a few shows a month.  But make them special events.  Things we've all been waiting to hear.  And these can be listened to live.  Or purchased later.  But these are the only shows you ever have to pay for.

When Art isn't on.  (Which would be most of the time.)  He'd have guest hosts.  But all top flight people.  No amateurs.  Some people from the old days.  Some new.  But all radio professionals.

With his flight already begun in certain parts of the globe, it seemed appropriate to highlight another photo:

QuoteOn Christmas Eve 1973, Whitley Meier wanted to load his camera with a new 36 exposure roll.  So he would be sure to capture all the his children’s reaction the following morning.  But his camera already had a roll of film in it, and it had a few pictures left.  So he went outside to finish off the roll.  He was snapping pictures randomly, when he saw something shoot across the sky, and snapped this picture.

“I think you can clearly see the reindeer,” he told reporters at the time.  “And if you look closely, you can see the sleigh and just make out Santa.

We’re not sure about all that.  But it’s definitely something unusual.

QuoteOn Christmas eve 1946, a young police officer named Hugh Wilson was working in Whitehall, London.  An avid amateur photograph, he decided to spend a break experimenting with some night photography techniques he’d been working on.  After snapping several photographs, he heard a jingling in the sky.  He looked up and snapped the picture above.  Experts have studied this photo, but have no explanation for the sleigh-like structure in the middle of the frame.  Wilson maintained that the photo was authentic till his death in 1982.
