Radio and Podcasts / Re: Art Bell Quits Dark Matter
December 08, 2013, 05:50:09 PM
Listening to Dark Matter Radio Network a lot these days I cancelled my TV cable and internet just after being informed of my now unemployment around the same time when Dark Matter started on Sirius *sigh.*  Anyway, I noticed a difference on the site today which gives you a listening choice of Flash, HTML5 or External Player.  Being mostly a novice on such things and since all three methods work fine for me my question is as follows:

Which choice uses the least network bandwidth?  or is there a difference?  My neighbors have generously allowed me to use their wireless internet for a time until I can get moved in with family in the next month or so.  I'm trying to be a good beggar and not abuse this gift.  One of the neighbors takes graduate level classes online, and I sure don't want to impede their ability to use their own network.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Art should write a book about this thread called.....
Art Bell's Skin: The Thickening.

Love it!

It's there to test the streaming capability.  It's definitely low bandwidth, but even that could (and probably would) be optimized to sound better.

I'd never heard KNYE before, and I'm definitely enjoying it.

I was trying to enjoy it, but my ears were slightly bleeding, LOL.  They know about it, so I am no longer concerned.   :D

You are correct...
After the recent lightning hit, the streaming system was damaged.
It's rather patched together at the moment.
To be fixed soon.....

Thanks, Paul :-)

I have been listening to the KNYE stream for about a half hour now.  It is full of static and tin.  Am I the only one that has this problem?  If so, I guess someone needs to know?

What? Did I read that right? If people are quitting their jobs to listen to the radio, they don't really deserve to be employed in the first place imo.

No, genius, I'm talking about people employed by Art or for his show.

I'm disappointed, yeah, but not entirely shocked.  I have enjoyed the recent shows and the build-up to when they started.  Today, not so much.

But....what I'm really curious and concerned about is whether there were people who quit perfectly satisfying (or otherwise) jobs to go full-time with Art and are now left out in the cold.

Me....I just need to find some different entertainment.  No biggie.

I will soon be unemployed and losing my home to move in with family, so after my free trial ran out I found other means of listening.  Does Art consider me part of the problem?  My only alternative was to not listen at all, and right now I wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Art, it will soon be midnight in the desert, and we aren't listening tonight.  How does that feel?

From Art's Facebook

"Sometimes when you are "all in" you win, sometimes lose. By mutual agreement Dark Matter will no longer air as of tonight."

I believe when she was on the "other" show that other host would take a nap for a while. Or who the hell knows what he did. I just know he was no where to be found.

I believe it was Linda's way of not having to answer ridiculous and redundant questions all the time.

Anyone else notice Art's little dig at Coast guests when talking about reporters interviewing politicians?

Yes, it was super witty, LOL

.....He just seems all over the place and his theories seem malleable when he needs them to be.

Malleable is the right word, thank you.  Opportunistic (when he needs them to be) fits too.

Why would a "god part of the brain" necessarily preclude the existence of God?

Is there some secret to uploading an avatar?  The .jpg I'm trying to upload is not large.

I sent in a wormhole message last night just before the end of the show and was thrilled when Art referenced it!   I see that someone has quoted Art's first (humorous!) reaction at the top right of this screen.

Thank you all for the welcome!
