I guess it was a stick in the eye to Art. This is what he posted a while ago on FaceBook:

I no longer harbor a grudge against Oates, it's not healthy. Premiere however is a another matter, I have nothing less than a institutional hate for what they did to me. I had almost decided not to tell that story but after what George did on Thursday (I have word from a inside source that indeed it was George over the advice/objections of his Producer) it just may be time for a clear slate. Stay tuned

I seem to recall that art and Oates settled out of court and as part of the settlement Oates appeared on CTC to apologize and retract his claims.

David John Oates will be appearing on Coast this Thursday. He hasn't been on the show since Art's lawsuit. Is this CTC's attempt to get inside Art's head, and mess with his game?

One thing I always respected about Art was his open-mindedness and concern for civil liberties.

I have to wonder if the recent disclosures regarding the NSA will spur the return of Art - maybe not as a daily show - maybe not as regular podcast -  but as a website with stories and an occasional podcast.

Art has always been passionate about what he believes in and I  believe that he's much more passionate about the creepy government intrusion into our lives than the current state of CTC. I recall all the shows about "Predator" during the Clinton era. Art was really ticked off.

If there's going to inspire Art to return it's not the frustration related to George and the show - it's our government's monitoring our everyday lives.

I don't know what you all think - but to me this is the quintessential Art - concern about Libertarian principles: the free exchange of new ideas without government intervention nor intervention.

I always enjoyed and found intriguing all the guests and ideas that were presented on his show. But at its foundations was a fundamental respect for the free expression of ideas.

To be honest in this day and age I have to wonder if this is possible. Will the IRS monitor my posts on this site? Will the government monitor my posts on Facebook?

To be honest I'm more concerned about what our government is doing - the IRS and the NSA - and more than ever we need someone like Art Bell.

Art will retire from his new gig shortly after it starts. As much as you would hate to admit it, you know it's true. It's inevitable and we may as well start talking about it.
