china sucks.
I'm into my fourth year here, and I enjoy the life I have.  I work with (mostly) good people, and I have more freedom in the classroom as an instructor than I did at large public American universities.

Anyway, to bring this back to the "radio" theme, iheartradio stations (as well as others like KFI) don't stream outside the U.S.  Those are American decisions, not Chinese.

soooo... coastgab isn't blocked in china?

Coastgab is just fine here--the Authorities agree about Noory et al.  Now, if you are using wordpress or blogspot, expect the banhammer.  Aand, the rules 'n regs of the Internet also keep me safely from facebook, twitter, and youtube.  Can't watch football highlights on youtube since that would damage societal harmony, or something.

I'll pass on the offer, MV, for the CCR.  The one I bought is far from reliable.

Here in China, both tunein and iheartradio are either blocked or don't broadcast outside the US, but I can get some stations on their own stream.  I use a regular ol' radio stateside when I'm at a seldom-used lakehouse (think camping with plumbing) that doesn't have the Internet.

I'm wondering what radio(s) you all use for your nighttime listening pleasure.  When I'm in the States, I have a CCRadio (with a crappy LED readout) and a GE Superadio, which I suppose are good for distance listening.  However, topography complicates getting good, clear signals, so what recommendations do you have?

Also, if you know of good links to learn the basics of understanding how radio works, etc., those would be much appreciated.

Good list, Paper*Boy.  texas is tops on my list.

I'd add lsu and "little brother" (Oklahoma state or okie lite, if you prefer).  Their fans are unbearable when they have success, and even when they don't.  lsu fans are unbearable at any time as well.

Boomer Sooner, baby.

How it Began by Chris Impey was a good read.  If you like science documentaries, this is a solid book.  I learned new stuff that's not quite covered in a lot of the nonspecialist books about astronomy/physics.

Yes, you only thought you were alone, as you were powerless to stop the increasing feelings of unhappiness and frustration over what you heard on C2C. You feel it important to try to support George, and think he's a wonderful guy; but his laziness, incompetence and downright goofiness are making it impossible for you to listen to C2C without getting angry, upset or confused.

So one day you stumble upon this web site, which exhilarates you but at the same time makes you feel guilty and disloyal...at first. As you read, you are amazed to find you are not alone. Indeed, far from it, as you see with growing pleasure that your own attitudes and feelings of frustration and guilt can be seen on every page...

Yep, we've been there before you, feeling the things you do. I'd suggest starting with the huge "George Noory Sucks! - The Definitive Compendium" thread. Don't just start on the last page and reading new posts as they come in. Instead I'd try to get a little taste of the past, and pick any spot randomly, say page 100, and then 216, 387, 479, etc. Just to see what a little of the history has been. And then just go wild, reading anything which strikes your fancy.

And I bet you'll be astounded at how much you see your own attitudes mirrored.

Thanks for the thoughts, Sardoni.

Since I hope my loyalty is to good thinking and not just to any one person, the specific info about how C2C is turning into a dumpster fire--and how good Art was as host--is very welcomed.  George does come across as a "nice guy", but it takes a lot more than that to make a successful radio show.  It's a shame that such a (formerly) great platform for investigation into an amazingly wide range of topics has devolved into turmeric-eating angels who love the number 8.  Art didn't consistently apply critical thinking in his questions to the more off-the-wall guests, but at least he made the experience darn entertaining.

Hi all,

Lurker turned new member.  As a guy drifting away from the current C2C, I see I have company.  Really appreciate the fineartstream and the insight from the commentariat.

Glad I found y'all!
