Likely not that new.  Probably signed up after the last account was banned.

Likely has multiple accounts...but that's not what we're here to talk about.  Let's talk about the fact that this whole situation makes no sense.  How Art always uses excuses to quit and seems to really like creating drama.  First it was a falling out with Keith, then he threatened to not do the show if he couldn't have bumper music.  It's always something...I'm just failing to see why he bothered in the first place.

I knew Art was upset that most people didn't want Redacted as a co-host....but this is really taking it to another level.  Stop trying to force people's hands Art.

Art, listen.  There are many, many people willing to help you. This problem with the wacko is temporary and solvable.  We respect your need to protect your family, but what if quitting doesn't satisfy this wacko?

Much gratitude and affection to you, Art. Roswells, always.

Well that's where the logic makes no sense either.  Like this crazy person is going to suddenly stop coming around because he stops the show?  If you don't see the false logic in that then maybe you're the stalker. :P

Pretty convenient logic, eh?

No doubt.  Whatever...Noory may stink at this job but at least he's not a quitter and a liar.

Art:

So if Redacted's show does well maybe you'll do a show now and then?  Have you completely lost your mind?  Are you obsurd?  This has gone from not quite the same to what the fuck...

If you were really afraid for you family you wouldn't make comments like that.  Just admit that you're bummed things aren't going like you would have hoped and leave it at that.  People would understand that a lot more than you saying shit like you been.

Oh hell, Art's just been lazy and stopped using his lumen photon therapy.  Otherwise he'd be stimulating the natural healing powers of the body.

Do we really need to keep creating a separate thread whenever it takes our fancy? I'm sure it will end up driving MV mad trying  to merge all these together. Most of them can go in the Art Bell thread, and will probably end up there sooner or later. It ends up getting too confusing and people don't read what you have to say anyway.

We're going to have to get you a cone so you stop chewing.

One thing we can be sure of after last night, I think most of us were left with wanting more show.  Is three hours really enough time to do MITD?  I'd like to take a survey and see what you all think just for fun.

There's an inherent honesty and brutal truth that comes out of this forum that you could never get from a highly moderated commercial forum (worth noting most don't even allow open conversation officially).  We just have to work on stopping bellgabbers from chewing their own arms off...or other people's arms.

Ya, he dropped out here too, San Francisco, wasn't sure if i was just me. And yes, I'm glad he didn't know it -- as was clear to me upon resume.

Did anyone else hear someone say "Let me try disconnecting and reconnecting to see if we can get him back folks."?

Has Art ever interviewed Robert Bingham?  I don't recall, but I figured it would be a good fit for the show even if he is a crackpot.

I'm kind of interested in what a technology pop-culture topic show would be like.  I think Kevin Rose would be a good one to interview for that as he has his thumb on the pulse of the latest trends in tech.

Most of the dropouts / fragmenting seemed to be coming from Art's studio to the internet. Most times the caller was still connected and communicating with Art - seems to me to indicate that Skype was not the total problem (at least this time).

Art couldn't hear the callers when they dropped off and the audio went out...he was hearing the same thing we were.

Skype is notorious for being a piece of shit.  MV can relate to that with the gabcast.

So while there were definitely streaming issues and drop offs were certainly related to that...

Make no mistake Skype sucks donkey balls and as long as Art continues taking calls from people on Skype there will always be quality issues.  There is no way of "fixing" that.

I was using TuneIn. Then I quickly switched to the DMDN page pop-up player.
It's working, but looks like I was on delayed stream and missed the beginning of the show  :(

Sorry I should have asked, what state?  They had to pull a bad edge, but that seems to have cleared things up for their side.  They'll be getting in touch with Tune-in tomorrow to discuss those issues.

The load balancing among the 7 servers that StreamGuys have is good, 50% per server.  However, it's looking like the ad injector at the Tunein level is causing issues.  The SysAdmins are checking into on some other layers that I haven't discussed with them yet, and I'm testing with them.  The issue is most certainly intermittent which makes it harder to identify the problem.

I just wen to DMDN and page loaded just fine. Odd that the schedule doesn't list MiTD anywhere though. Maybe Art wasn't kidding about taking all our money and heading to Mexico.  ;D

I asked Keith about that a few days ago, he said he's just really busy and hasn't had a chance to change it.  Also he was still working on trying to figure out where everyone else was going to get pushed to during Art's time slot.

can't even get darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com to load right now.  So, either it's insanely popular out-of-the-gate or Kieth is in the middle of a DDOS attack.

I just sent Keith an email to let him know what's going on.

UPDATE-  I just connected but it took about 5 minutes or more to finally connect.

Anyone here who is interested in listening online tonight I would highly recommend using a client that will automatically continually try to connect on it's own.

Actually it just disconnected and reconnected...that's going to reeeally suck for anyone trying to create an archive.

I've been trying for about 15 minutes to access the DMDN via the TuneIn app- no dice thus far.

I'm glad you mentioned something, because I'm not able to connect now either.  Has anyone contacted Keith to let him know?

VLC frequently dropped at 9 hrs.  Could not find any settings dictating this and other streams did not drop after 9 hrs.

In Audacious it frequently is dropping when one show ends and another starts up.

Interesting and most certainly worth noting.

Been listening on the .mp3 link and the stream paused once for about 10 seconds then picked up where it left off. Seems like if it were to do that several times a listener would be way behind the live stream.

That's fairly worrisome, particularly for a live show.  This is a time when it would be nice for apps or even the player on the webpage to make it obvious if you're listening to what's been recorded or if you're live like most DVR's are setup.

I'm still trying to figure out why the schedule hasn't been updated to reflect Art being on there.  I haven't heard back from Keith.

I have used both those links, with VLC and with Audacious...  both randomly quit streaming or error out and need to be refreshed to get the stream going again.  Both on my patio pc which is wireless, and my room pc which is connected via ethernet.  Prior to the two options being available (mp3 and aac) I never had an issue with the stream quitting.

Have you noticed if your stream is dropping after any particular amount of time?  I'm worried mine may drop now.

Wonderful to hear your voice again Art! Really nice interview. I especially loved when you turned the tables on John, and became the interviewer instead of the interviewee. You sounded tremendous!

I agree, it's like Art is timeless or something...it's like he's picking up right where he left off!!

Shouldn't the dark matter digital network schedule be changing for Art?  Keith please update the schedule here -> http://darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com/ to reflect that it's Art Bell, as it is right now nobody would know that it's Art.

Just to be clear, I have back up power for the Studio, BuT this super good Internet I have which comes in by Microwave does not for all the hops so if power goes, so do I. It is now the Monsoon season here in the Desert and anybody who wishes can look up my weather forecast, zip code 89048.
This will be a ride!

Art

I'm not sure what you're talking about Art.  Your 10-day forecast looks fine and anything beyond 10 days in my opinion is anybody's guess I don't trust meteorologists past that time.  20% chance is nothing...

I suspect the storm knocked off the isp.

It's possible, though in all my years of working in IT I've only had my network go down during a power outage once. Outages are almost always transformer related only effecting a couple of blocks.  I'd be interested in finding out if a microwave wireless backup connection would be possible in Pahrump if not perhaps satellite.  I'm sure being given the location backup fiber is likely not an option.

Update, I just ran across this company:

http://www.lv.net/Pahrump-High-Speed-Wireless-Internet-And-Wifi.htm

LV.Net’s microwave network is designed for 99.999% uptime.  Major   backbone points are equipped with licensed carrier-grade radios.  Towers   with more than one transit link are set up with OSPF protocol and mesh   topology for fail over.  LV.Net’s microwave network has a redundant   power design.  Equipment is standardized and kept in a cold spare state   in the event that using duplicate equipment in a particular case is the   best option.  Equipment that allows for pro-active management and   maintenance features is set up to report and alert for usage or port   errors.

While bandwidth for microwave is fairly limiting, it should be more than enough to support uploading audio and taking Skype calls.
