I live alone. I want to hear a human voice. Sometimes I talk back to it.

I had that once, about 20 years, ago, when bf knew someone who kept rabbits.

Some of my Easter eggs didn't turn out too good this year. Some did, but I think that the cups may have had traces of grease and that caused some streaking. Also I think the old style boiling water dyes worked better than these modern cold ones. I realize that this is safer for kids, but still. I've learned the hard way not to try food coloring instead of Paas dye. The red and purple ones turned out horribly when I tried that.

Devilled eggs for the weekend.

I haven't heard Jimmy Church too much, but guess I will tonight. If they take on the fake news problem, I'm guessing they'll distort it, and we won't know any more about spotting it than we did before.

That doesn't really count. A few weeks ago he told a story about a cat that was tortured to death and he described each brutal act like he was reading items off of a grocery list. I'm talking about stuff like that.

I think that was in Utah. The Seattle PI picked it up. I'm glad I missed it. The PI account was enough.

Menudo? Maybe an original pizza-gate thing? Considering that Menudo for normal Hispanic types, is a soup made from tripe etc that you eat (and helps hangovers)- and name a band of pre or teen Latin boys, some of which came out somewhat messed up, after something you eat?
[/quot
I got a tripe taco at a  Mexican restaurant in Seattle, and it was awful. But I didn't complain. It was my fault for ordering it. I consider myself an adventurous eater. But I didn't know about the hangover thing.

A good old fashioned UFO show tonight with two of the biggest names in the field. Should be comfy. Noory, if you're reading this, please don't kill the mood by reading a news story about a child or pet/animal being tortured/murdered/killed. Thank you.
George just said something about outlawing consumption of dog and cat meat

I have tried to get rid of that apostrophe.

"Dog too excited?" or some such.

So what is on everybody's Easter menu, assuming that you observe Easter and are cooking?

This is the ki d of thing they do on food message boards like eGullet.

I'm having pork loin, scalloped potatoes (because they were such a hit at Christmas), spinach salad, frozen fruit salad and some sort of cherry tarts I'm making to use up some canned cherries somebody gave me. I'm having white zinfandel from Trader Joe's. The other two don't drink, so I'm probably the only one who will have any. I frequently serve 2 buck chuck at Holiday meals.

eGullet types often post pictures, sometimes many pictures depicting preparation, but I don't know how to post pictures from my phone, except texting.

The thing is that medical hucksterism- and religious zealots, "populist" candidates, and political conspiracy theorists- MADE radio before national companies and advertisers caught on to it. So I sort of feel like Norry and his "doctors," preachers, and political "experts" are bringing the medium full-circle in what, might, be a dying medium (unfortunately.) A few of the more famous ones:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Howe_Springer

Thanks for posting. A couple of those I didn't know about.

I actually saw that movie when it came out in theatres. It isn't normally the kind of thing I would go to, but a friend really liked Rowdy Randy Piper and wanted somebody to go with her. I don't remember much about it.
#74
Neither. I'm just intrigued at why people believe certain things.
#75
Actually, I think its pretty much just Alex Jones. But a couple of callers on Medved's conspiracy show today were convinced of it, one.because of the type of weapon Lanza was using. Evidently this show was a rerun, but not from too long ago.

Like Medved says, to believe in a theory like t his, you have to believe  that hundreds, probably thousands of people, would be complicit. Same is true for the moon landing conspiracy theory. I would also note that a lot of these people have professional licenses, would have taken oaths, have codes of ethics, etc. I realize that people like this do commit crimes, lie and do bad things, but his point is that you would have to have a lot of them in one place, at one time lying about the same thing.

Beanie Babies, tulips, etc. I saw a documentary on the tulip boom way back when. I can't tell you the name of it, or where I saw it (probably on PBS though) but I learned my lesson of not chasing the crowd for too long from it.
The Beanie Baby Bubble by Zac Bissonette was a book that actually compared Beanies to tulip mania. I found out about it from Coast To Coast. I don't remember for sure who interviewed him but  it may have been George and I dont think it was a very good interview. Bissonette  also goes into Ty Warner, an enigmatic figure  whose marketing ideas may have helped create the bubble. I thought it was fascinating.

Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter. If you liked Still Alice or Away from Her you will like this one.

Bankrupt by Beanies. The man is Chris Robinson, who was on General Hospital for several years, and did a lot of other TV and movie work. Remember the old commercial where the guy says "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV"? That was Chris Robinson, and the doctor he played was Rick Webber on GH.

Many, many. I love documentaries. Festival Express, was definitely good. I also like Be Here to Love Me, about Townes Van Zandt.
My Brothers Keeper is good.
Barbie Nation.
In Advance of the Landing (must see for Coasters)

A very short one on YouTube I liked is about a man ( actually a somewhat well known actor) who spent huge amounts of money on Beanie Babies in the 90s. It may be called Bankrupted by Beanies or something. You should be able find it with a little go ogling.

There's one about Alzheimers (before so much was known about it) with "dutiful daughter" in the title. You should be able to look it up on imdb.

The Sociopath by Ben Howe can be seen online. I liked it but if you like Trump you won't like it.

Let's Get Lost is about Chet Baker. If you like jazz, you will like it, but he's not a good role model for kids.

I know I'll think of others. I love reviving old threads.

I just looked up the Wenatchee case on Wikipedia. It was even worse than I remembered.Definitely a case of a group of people who were at a socioeconomic disadvantage. This may be when a corner was turned. People realized how excessive this sort of thing had gotten, and common sense returned.

I guess everything recycles.  Just under 20-years ago, there was a Satanic Cult Abusing Children panic in the US.  It was fueled in part by Oprah.  It led to prosecution of innocent people and the destruction of their lives.  There was the McMartin trial in California http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMartin_preschool_trial, and the Little Rascals trial in North Carolina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Rascals_day_care_sexual_abuse_trial
Janet Reno, as state attorney before she was US Attorney General, perfected what PBS Frontline called The Miami Method of Prosecuting Child Abuse Cases.

Please, let's don't go down this trail again.

WA had its own version of this the Wenatchee 7 or something. It wasn't a daycare, but a group of people in an obscure church and a guy named Bob Perez  ( now deceased) who went after them. They turned out to be innocent. I think Dorothy Rabinowitz of the Wall Street Journal wrote about this one. some people still maintain that the Satanic Ritual Abuse stuff is true, and you get glimpses,of it now and then.

There were a significant amount of Soros backed protesters at Trump events yumyum.

Thats what people claim--as well as the womens' march, BLM and others. But I'm beginning to question it.

You might like Peyton Place, my favorite Lana Turner movie.

My thoughts about Kubrick--A Clockwork Orange far and away my most favorite. Try to get the DVD with Malcolm MacDowell discussing the whole film, many interesting tidbits.

Least favorites--Eyes Wide Shut and Dr. Strangelove. I don't hate them, just don't like them as much as his others. I wish Kubrick could have gone out on AI, a film I like a lot, instead of Eyes Wide Shut.

I don't believe in hating people, but will list some of my current least favorites.

Todd Herman. Don't know if all his righteous indignation about everything from Sound Transit to Seattle homeless encampment is for real. His a d his wife's 30 10 weight loss commercials are pretty tiresome too. I will elaborate on this if you wish.

Lars Larson. It's like wall to wall Lars on KVI now.

Still can't stand Cunningham.

Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin are now on my shit list.

Armstrong and Getty are OK, but seemed to get more moronic in their third hour.

I still like Eric Metaxas but am questioning more of his judgement. Same with Dennis Prager. I can't get him in Everett, but hear things.

Carrie Abbott (local on Christian station.) Sometimes she's good, but I question some of her judgement. This winter she had on an anti-vaxxer, who of course said she wasn't an anti-vaxxer. Then a few weeks after that she has an embarrassingly gushy show on Trump and perpetrated the notion that a lot of protestors are paid by George Soros. Then, strangest of all, last week she had her daughter on, seemingly to shill for Mary Kay (for you men, in case you don't know, Mary Kay is a very old cosmetics multilevel marketing company.)

So tonight they are serving up reptiluans and Messianic prophecies. I have to admit it's nice to be able to stay up late enough to listen to Coast to Coast.

I didn't really listen to Varla Ventura. Maybe I should have, but was busy bookmarking one of my newer cookbook acquisitions. I have one about the Post World War II gourmet craze and another from Fort Walton Beach FL Junior League. Is there a food and cooking thread on bellgab? I can't remember.

According to Wikipedia, the muscular dystrophy telethons ended. They didn't continue after Jerry Lewis was "fired"

I think this idea that gluten is so toxic that people have to wear gloves and masks and wash clothes separately  is pretty extreme.

Yes, I do believe that's right. He also advocates eating like half a dozen eggs I believe (or more, I can't remember the outrageous number--perhaps he'll refresh us tonight) a day.  :o  That's 42 eggs/week, folks.

What did I just say about arithmetic?
#90
Well, if it was animals, of course they were necropsies.
I don't remember how many he said, he'll probably mention it again tonight, but it was a big number. I ran the numbers using 5,000, calculating how many he would have had to do in what span of time. I concluded that he would have had to do almost one per day for 14 years, working 6 or 7 days a week most weeks. ( I know you will feel free to check my work, I didn't use a calculator) If he did one every other day, it would take 28 years. I'm not saying he didn't, but I am saying that arithmetic is one of the best ways to call out liars.
