Have you seen "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" recently?  It freaked me out when I was young.  Watched it a few months ago and was bored.  I dig the movie...it just doesn't hold up over time.

It did the same thing "The Witch" did this year, but was much more effective at it. I'd say you have to be in the right mood. Both LSJTD and "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" have some seriously interesting socio-political commentary going on beneath the surface, and that aspect always keeps me interested.

I did when it was finally released on DVD some years back, and it was still creepy and scary to me. But again, just a vibe. Been more a fan of that than the blood and guts or torture horror that is popular now (though like old giallo stuff.) But admittedly, I drank myself into a state beforehand. I need to watch sober and pay attention, but, then again, why ruin the magic? Though I think the more grainy, real film, etc stuff "works" better than the CGI and high-def of today for some subjects.
Wolfman again! And some of the cheapies had some social commentary, in a way, sorta.
