Radio and Podcasts / Mysterious Topics
May 24, 2015, 09:48:58 PM
So this podcast is two guys with heavy Fargo accents.  They pick a topic, research it, and then present the facts in a very plainspoken way.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this but I like this show.  These guys are sincerely curious and they're not sensationalizing anything.  Just presenting information.

Their most recent show deals with Teddy Roosevelt and whether or not he had an encounter with a Sasquatch.

Lambast, parody and generally ridicule corporations and the culture of mediocrity they perpetuate.

I was just having a thoroughly disappointing meal at Olive Garden and thought I'd share.

Some of you have been posting videos of Falkie. Others have been posting videos of Casio.  Still others have been posting "the worst ever" and posting here about that.  Like I come to bellgab to fill my mind up with shit.

Well brace yourselves ... war is coming.

Random Topics / Star Trek - The ST Universe

This is a broadly scoped ST thread because there was no ST TOS thread when there was a dedicated thread for every other ST show. Aaaaannd ... we're off

Radio and Podcasts / Low Power FM radio project

I used to live in Carrboro, NC and they had a low power fm station downtown. It was pretty cool because I knew half the dj's because they were all local.

I thought I'd post this as few seem to be aware of this program.

Wasn't sure where to place this link.  Stories like this are interesting in that they point to an alternate timeline or a pre-history that we have no record of.

Politics / Random Stupid Political Things

Out of respect to the Everything Else / Political firewall here at BellGab I thought I would create a Political version of the classic BellGab Random Stupid Things thread.  So here goes ...

Perhaps but would George W Bush perform better than a trained ape?

Radio and Podcasts / Brian Dunning - Skeptoid
January 01, 2014, 10:23:14 AM
The "Skeptoid" podcast with Brian Dunning is pretty interesting.  If you've ever wanted someone to make a counter argument to all the nonsensical claims and assertions that guests frequently make on Coast, then the Skeptoid podcast is here to save your brain.  My only problem with Dunning is that he sometimes labels "believers" as "whackos" which seems like an unnecessary personal attack.  He makes his points very well.  No need to beat anyone up.

If you're open to reasoned and thoughtful commentary, give the "Skeptoid' a listen.

Politics / The real worst administration ever
August 27, 2013, 09:30:37 AM
Flanked by a fraternity of Yes Men and Yes Women George W Bush was the worst thing to happen to the USA and possibly the World (okay second to Hitler). He and his administration failed to stop the attack on the Trade Center, started TWO land wars in Asia, presided over the largest expansion of the Federal government, and eliminated taxes on the rich.

Thanks to all the assholes who voted for Bush because "he seemed like someone I could drink a beer with" or so they could get their check from the Clintin era surplus. You deserve to be unemployed and penniless.

Kind regards,

I stumbled on a documentary about the Scole Experiments recently and I have to say I'm surprised I have never heard of this before. A bunch of mediums get together to research life after death, telekinesis, etc. their "findings" were pretty remarkable. So much so that they seem hard to believe.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows of these Scole sessions.

ok so PRN or whatever decides to update the C2CAM iPhone app and they take out the one feature that made the app worth a damn: podcasting. they also update the site so it's more smartphone friendly. when I scroll down on the 'player' page a script triggers which scrolls the page right back up

fucking idiots. these people can't do anything right

in the interest of playing doppleganger to the "Things that annoy you" thread ... i thought we could have a thread for things we like or appreciate or things we're just thankful for

listening to a Fred Bell show on http://www.fineartstream.com/ and boy oh boy is this guy just stark raving bonkers.  reminds of steve quayle and that fringe historian that insisted that the Japanese and the Nazis both had nukes in WWII but refused to use them ethical reasons.  BULL!!!!!

Politics / President John McCain - an alternate reality
December 16, 2011, 05:45:38 PM
people frequently say there's no REAL difference between candidates.  i disagree.  i think that had John McCain won that instead of leaving Iraq we would instead be expanding operations there and maybe even preparing operations against Iran.  reinstatement of the draft.  Obama is not the ideal candidate.  but given the alternative he was the best choice.  or read another way ... the lesser of two evils.  or more exactly ... the better of two shitty candidates

Listening to Helling gush about the Patterson film. Now that the film is stabilized it looks even more like guy in a suit. Hilling doesn't have his facts straight about Patterson or special effects technology. It's pretty obvious that this is a guy who refuses to see what's right in front of him. Maybe because he still lives with his mom and has wasted his life chasing down a hoax?

Archive of Old Threads / HAPPY HOUR - GOD DAMN IT!

hey ...new thread idea: the Happy Hour thread.  similar to Random Stupid Things except that the sole condition of this thread is that you must have consumed at least ONE alcoholic beverage to post here.  i was going to drink a beer after work today but i'm just going to go to bed.  if i drink a beer, i'll just wake up at 2am and have to pee.  no fun

Paranormal - Conspiracy - UFOs - Etc. / mothman
April 09, 2011, 11:01:08 PM
hey. i just finished watching "The Eyes of Mothman".  a documentary about ... TA DAHHH .... mothman.  actually, it was more of historical documentary about Point Pleasant, WV.  that touched on mothman.  and lots of other things that happened in and around Point Pleasant. it was surprisingly good and if you have ANY interest in mothman at all ... i think you'd find it interesting.  i actually drive through Point Pleasant two or three times a year when i go home to visit family in Ohio (i live in North Carolina) so it's especially interesting.

i'd be interested to know what other CoastGabbers think of the mothman stories

it was about 11 years ago.  i was watching an orgy of ufo documentaries on the Discovery Channel.  i was thinking about how each documentary basically re-cooked the same sightings over and over again.  and told each story differently every time.  when ....

dun - dun - dunnnnnnnn

cut to a 'ufo researcher' walking along a grassy field outside a bar where a 'ufo meeting/lecture/symposium/beer garden' was being held.  the guy is talking in even, measured tones.  when i notice ... in the background ... a fellow 'ufo researcher' leaning up against a tree for what had to be one EPIC FUCKING PISS

yeah.  POP went my bubble.  the really glorious thing about having a 'ufo symposium' at a bar ... the beer is a business write off if you've bothered to incorporate

smart.  piss up a rope smart.  but not smart enough to tell the drunk to get out of the fucking shot.  or to edit that content out.  or reshoot it.

and people wonder why the ufo topic isn't taken seriously

holy hell

i submit to you that C2C has become that staggering drunk.  leaning up against an oak.  oblivious to all the people standing around ... going 'wtf man ... it's 3:10 in the afternoon?!!!!'

if you've had a similar experience, please contribute

beers and cheers,

Archive of Old Threads / Noam Chomsky
February 14, 2011, 06:08:55 PM
i didn't realize how political a C2C forum would be.  but in hindsight i guess any place where people are discussing conspiracy theories .... you're going to see their politics come out eventually.  i'd like to post this Noam Chomsky interview because i see his rationalism as a counter weight to some of the sensational ideas that people like Alex Jones and other C2C guests.

anyway ... here's Noam ...

A MUST SEE Interview by Noam Chomsky

#27
so i've been listening to C2C regularly for about six months.  a friend introduced me to the show a while back with some 'classic' episodes  but never really paid it much attention.

being something of an 'outsider' to the C2C community i thought i'd comment on how i perceive the show.  i'll understand if you don't give a shit

C2C is an entertainment vehicle.  at it's best moments, it's informative AND entertaining.  but mostly ... it's just halfwits flapping about some delusion or some ridiculous theory that isn't even loosely based in reality.  i'm even talking about Art's classic shows.  he's had PLENTY of halfwits on: the guy that shot bigfoot and buried him but couldn't recover the remains, John Leer (holy shit what a nutter), hoagland, etc., etc.

i'm not saying they're involved in deception or misrepresentation.  they're interested in ENTERTAINMENT.  or more accurately ... maintaining ratings so they can sell advertising.  given that night time radio isn't a money maker in terms of advertising dollars ... C2C is there to fill up some time while most sleep.

but since they maintain the APPEARANCE of being a source of information i have to say that they are in fact a disinformation source.  most of it is speculation or psuedo-science.  and i cringe every time i hear a host use the words "proof" and "science" in a sentence: empirical theory uses inductive reasoning which is effectively like saying something CAN be true and here is the evidence.  deductive reasoning (the opposite) is what you hear in a court of law: since this is true and this is true ... the following conclusion MUST be correct.  a scientist would never use the word proof.  they discuss the hypothesis, confounds, evidence, etc.  but they will never use the word PROOF in their professional lives.

i think the fact that Hoagland has come out with his theory that aliens are using radio frequencies (bounced off the pyramids) to incite riots in Egypt is a sign that it's time to draw a line in the sand.  if C2C doesn't BAN HOAGLAND, then they've just lost all credibility.

FFS - if i'm looking for a distration, i'll turn on the BBC or listen to the farm report.  rather than listen to George mangle the English language and hear some caller (stoned out of their gourd) drone on about the leprechaun that just did cartwheels through their living room

let's see if Hoagland appears anytime soon on the show.  if so ... i'm calling bullshit on the whole thing and punching out

Paranormal - Conspiracy - UFOs - Etc. / disclosure
January 19, 2011, 07:45:20 PM
i did a search and failed to find a thread with the same title.  some were similar but years old.  i'd like to stir the pot

i read a book a while back called "Everything You Know Is Wrong" which is a collection of essays published by the Disinformation media group.  in the back of the book ... nestled in with a bunch of short pieces that weren't big enough to be essays but were too interesting not to be included ... there's a short bit about how the UN/International Community tried to outlaw the weaponization of space.  they list a series of familiar and unfamiliar sounding weapons.  plasma weapons.  microwave weapons.  nuclear weapons.  then they kind of drop a bombshell towards the end: extra-terrestrial weapons.  i must have read that paragraph a thousand times.  they were basically quoting from the UN resolution at that point.  so was this a slip up?  unintentional disclosure?  or was someone just ... thinking ahead?

is anyone else familar with this book?  or the UN resolution attempting to prevent the weaponization of space?

b
EDIT //
further evidence that i should refer/re-read documents BEFORE posting

the legal document i mentioned is ... the Space Preservation Act of 2001 ( H.R. 2977 ) and was not a product of the UN but rather the US Congress.  big difference.  also ... the term 'extra-terrestrial' was used in conjunction with other words that suggest that the legal language may have been referring to weapon systems designed for use in different regions of the atmosphere or proximity to the planet.

more exactly ... the phrase appears like this ...

(vi) strategic, theater, tactical, or extraterrestrial weapons and;

it's still a really interesting article.  though ... probably not a slip up disclosure.

i'm an asshat.  carry on.

Archive of Old Threads / the most crap thing about C2C
December 14, 2010, 02:05:49 AM
if you pay for access to the C2C website and listen to the streaming broadcasts you know they play the WORST elevator music ever.  also, you know they play the SAME DAMN ELEVATOR MUSIC song over and over and over and over ....

you'd think C2C would spring for a small library of crap lounge music for paying customers.  instead, they make them listen to the same ridiculous jazz guitar solo ... over ... and over ... and over ... and over ....

you get the idea
