I also love how Vara has the graphic with her show name and show times on the announcement that he's dropping her show.

What a fucktard.

We are sorry to report, that Heather Wade will no longer be airing her show “The Kingdom of Nye with Heather Wade” at midnight eastern, airing Monday to Friday on the LNM Radio Network effective immediately.
Needs, more, commas,,,,

QuoteFailed to acknowledge and communicate to the network and work with us during technical difficulties.

Failed to provide communication between herself and the network.
Same bullet point twice?

QuoteConsequently, the LNM Radio Network is seeking a replacement show, which is the only option we have to move forward with Heather Wade and her show.
What? You're looking for a replacement show as an option to move forward with Heather's show?

QuoteAs a result of what we have here is a failure to communicate.
Oh, the irony.

Once I worked with a Chinese guy who used to joke that he smoked because that was safer than just breathing the air. And the cigarette also had a filter. Better than the air in some of their cities.
True story. My girlfriend never smoked, except when she was visiting China.

My doctor said he was visiting China during the G8 or one of those big economic conferences. To look nice, the government there told the factories to give it a rest for several days so the place didn't seem so polluted. He said that it cleared up so well that you could see the temples far off in the distance. Rather beautiful. Too bad it's normally obscured by airborne shit.

Wish I could catch all these late night shows live, but it's a bitch with the old "work schedule."

I've enjoyed some of the recent topics, including the show on pirates and the "conspiracy of theories" show with Brian Dunning. Paul Seaburn is always fun too. I'm not into the psychic/intuition/new age stuff, but I try to give the guests a chance. Sometimes I'm surprised.

I think at some point they said there were 2000 subs.

$5 x 2000 = $10,000 a month.

$120,000/ 3 = $40,000 a year.

Not counting other expenses, of course. But $40k is not bad if you're doing this job (kind of) on the side.

So has she changed formats yet?

Is the show now about Bill Nye and how great it is that he's become a politicized partisan hack?

Both noble missions, for sure.

The former turned Mulder into a sexaholic. It's like all roads lead to poon.

Still, could be worse.

Saw Art yesterday.

I was out at a home show looking at sheds to house my broadcast equipment. Found a really nice little unit with a metal roof and plenty of room. When I went to open the air vent, I saw Art's face on the other side.

He said "no one will ever believe you."

At least I think that was him.

Surely, somewhere, somebody is taking bets on how long Heathers show will last.
There needs to be a pool.

And on the side action, bets on the "reasons" she will give.

Personally, I'm going with the "trolls have destroyed us" excuse.

Great gif!

So you tell me who else out there appeals to a younger demographic and has the magic!

Howard Hughes will be a fossil by the time Jorch stops signing extensions to his contract.
I don't think JC is any more appealing to a younger demographic than most of the other hosts out there. Dave's humor would be more appealing, I'd think. That was one of the things that helped me enjoy Art's shows when I was a 20-something. He had a wit which would perk up periodically, maybe after a long diatribe by some new age guest or perhaps while challenging Hoagland.

Listen to the quality of listener calls and comments on each of the shows. If you have to shock jock yourself down to a certain level to reach an audience, do you really want them calling in?

Jimmy Church will beg to differ, mark THOSE words! ;D
Heh. Church was the "legacy" before the "legacy."

That's why I hope Dave's MITD becomes the standard for more people. He came in like "hey, this is me. This is how I approach things. Here's my experience. Positive or (constructively) negative, talk to me." No bullshit about being handpicked by Art or some sort of coronation. No drama about discovering a Malibu base or going to Area 51. Just a down to earth approach for content that can at times be anything but.

Last time I try to look up the guest for the night. It would be hard to make that more difficult to read.

Part of one of the guest’s head (the make) showed up but then disappeared.

Hi Paul
Yeah, that contrast ratio is pretty bleh.

I still think the best-organized site belongs to Coast. It's not perfect, but finding shows and guests is relatively easy. The upcoming and recent shows pages are also useful.

Richard also does a weekly rock podcast. Like his conspiracy one, it's more of an overview/sampler show, but can be pretty thought-provoking.

The dude was like 70-something, a drama queen and smoked like a train.  Why would anyone think he was poisoned?

if his house-girl LBFM wanted him gone she just could have fucked him to death.
I think I read somewhere that one of his old HAM buddies visited Art not too long before his passing and he looked like utter shit. If you watch the drone video, he looks very stiff. He was sick and years of smoking/habits caught up to him. Wouldn't be surprised if he shortchanged himself on sleep all those years and that played a role too. Occam's Razor here, but I don't see any foul play from the man or anyone else. He was sick.

Ha. "The destruction of the whole paranormal genre" because we refuse to deal with things like poor production quality? Because we call out bullshit artists? Because we have some (admittedly rough) fun with it?

All the stuff about Art's personal life aside, this community is most in touch with what made his show special. If Lasha's brand of paranormal is the new "genre," then let it die a quick death.

So the question is, for a fringe style show, would you rather the host challenge the guests with respect or just allow the story, inaccuracies and contradiction just slide?

Should the show be total escapism or entertainment with a foot still grounded in skepticism?

Just asking for a friend. ;)

DS

I think it depends on the topic, but the number one thing is keeping it interesting.

The approach that someone like Howard Hughes uses is where my preference lies. He'll let someone move forward with their story, asking questions to help flesh it out or make it more understandable to us, then once the guest gets through with their point he might respectfully play "devil's advocate" and challenge them a little. It's certainly a balance, but one that I respect.

As for dumping guests, it makes sense to do so if they are dragging (like Adair) or not giving you anything interesting. Having a crazy Johnathan Reed (aka "alien in the freezer") story shouldn't immediately make them dump-able. But obviously going neurotic (like Douglas Dietrich is prone to) would be a dumper. You can always let the contradictions play out and then hit them with the big questions near the break (if you have open lines or another guest ready).

TL;DR? Use either (or both) of skepticism or escapism as you see fit. You help drive the show and you're doing a great job. Entertainment doesn't mean there can't be any facts, too.
