Art Bell?  More like Art QUIT.

Noory will never leave us.  NEVER.

What an awful day. Art throws in the towel and C2C is taking his place. Who knows if Art will even have a desire to start up a show again in 2 years. It's like being the middle guy in the Human Centipede. Terrible either way.

If he doesn't have the desire to fight his non-compete, I wouldn't bet on it.

I listed it bud...140 for boombox to listen in the house, car port to take radio with me was 80, 200 for year subscription, and another 150 for the lynx.  Was worth it if Art were on...

Good on you, man. Bet you wish you'd just test-driven the mobile app right about now.

I'm pleading with everyone not to take out their anger on any call-center employees. I've worked in call centers for a great deal of my adult life and a lot of the time call center people are treated like utter shit. Its probably a billion times worse in other countries.

A case in point, the last call center I worked at made it a rule that we could only have one type of drink at our desks. So, I couldn't have coffee and water simultaneously. I'd have to drink water, then go out to my car, drink as much coffee as possible, then come back. Plus my bathroom breaks were assigned in such a draconian fashion that about 20 minutes till break time I was squirming in my desk "like a toad", as Jim Morrison says.

I've worked in a call center as well. And, yes, we bore the brunt of the customers' bitches and gripes. The call center employee is placed in a very compromising position when the product they support is crap, but the customer deserves better than the standard "I'll send a technician" or the "I'll send you a replacement" answer their script informs them to do.

But ... as far as I know Beck doesn't have a non compete clause. He was driven off the air by crazed leftist loonies who lied about what he said on his show.
Wouldn't anything Art does on line be considered competition ?

Mercury Arts, as far as I know, owns the entirety of Glenn Beck's content. Additionally, Glenn hasn't been away from broadcasting for several years, thus losing touch with his fanbase. Face it, a good percentage of Coast listeners don't know who Art Bell is.

He can probably recommend a cheap hotel that's within staggering distance to the Premiere studio for when someone's too drunk after work.

I bet Gloria Allred would take the case. That would take this freakshow to dizzying new heights.

I don't understand the logic behind this. SiriusXM builds Art a studio, invests money to have Art as talent, promotes the show...in hopes of chasing him off thee air?

It takes two to tango, but I think Art's ultimatum pushed SXM over the edge. Apparently, he needs them more than they need him.

Art was foolish to sign a non-compete. I really have to question his legal representation.

Non-competes are standard operating procedure in radio and television.

I never thought I'd be quoting Ashton Kutcher, but here goes:

"And I never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job. And so opportunities look a lot like work.”

I sure hope that Art has good lawyers...

It all depends on how much fire Art has in his belly. At 68, I question how much anyone would want such a fight. Coupled with the fact that Art said his back was problematic, I'm not terribly optimistic.

Yes... because Sirius investing thousands in building him a studio, hiring a staff, and  promoting the hell out of the show for two months before its debut - were all attempts at making sure the show would fail.

Seriously people - Art walked away from the show, before it even had the chance to grow.   He is the one who wasn't happy trying to build up an audience from the subscriber base... He had conservatively, 50 million potential new fans (27 Million plus subscribers + several million Canadian subscribers to SiriusXM Canada - some subscriptions were for one person, while others for several.  Let's say 2 people on average per sub.  Low end 50 million)  He could have built something special up - rather than focus on the complaints of under 1% of his "base".

Having 27 million subscribers doesn't mean that they'll all listen. Of those subscribers, a fraction may be interested in talk radio. Of that group, an even smaller percentage are interested in paranormal talk radio. Having said that, many of Art's fans didn't know he was on radio again. Only the rabid fans, like us on BellGab, would take the time to research whatever happened to Art. Meanwhile, Coast has been on the air non-stop while Art took his sabbatical.

What if Art went on as a guest with Noory (or Knapp, or Wells) and did two to four hours addressing not only the latest issues, but indeed his legacy as a broadcaster.  Such an interview would be hard for CTC to turn down (due to the huge ratings) and it would be a platform to "clear" the air so to speak.  It might result in better feelings between both Art and George, and the clarification in a public venue might even improve things with Sirius (or it could make them worse, but it would make for a good program).  Perhaps, they could also use it as a platform to raise money for the Philippine victims of the typhoon.  Even my relatively poor butt (I'm a nurse and it's Christmas time) would kick in $20.00 to $40.00 for something like that.

That would have all the educational value of this:

I'm no fan of GN by any means but he's not the first and won't be the last to take up the reins that someone else let go. People come and go from all walks of life. No-one is irreplaceable. No, not even Art Bell.

I'm not saying that Art isn't replaceable in the eyes of the corporate suits in radio. In my heart and to my ears, not so much.

Blazing a trail to....encouraging people to spend money on a receiver many of whom did so specifically for Art Bell, who six weeks later pulled the plug...yep, blazing a trail alright! With positive moves like that, you sure can do without the bad bits eh?

No one made you buy anything. If you don't want your equipment anymore, might I suggest eBay? I happened to have old equipment on hand that SXM offered to reactivate @ $25.00 for six months of service. Since there's other programming I enjoy on SXM, I consider it a wash.

I'm not referring to Art's latest endeavor. I'm referring to Art creating Coast to Coast AM which Snoory inherited with little or no effort on his part.

I don't give Noory "credit" for that.  I think that went on behind the scenes, don't know at what levels.  I just don't see GN being that calculating -- I don't think he's smart enough.

Maybe so, but I consider him guilty by association. Without Art blazing the trail, Snoory wouldn't wouldn't have his turn-key radio program. Surely, that deserves even the slightest bit of pushback from Snoory.

I have to agree with you.  If that's the route he would have taken we (and he) wouldn't be going through this now.  On the other hand, we don't know the level of frustration Art was enduring, dealing with Sirius daily from three days in.  He may have just gotten to the point where he didn't see any resolution and felt it was truly a lost cause.

Couldn't agree more about Noory.  Just don't think he's that clever.

They were clever enough to monitor Art's schedule and twist the arms of upcoming guests, attempting to get them to cancel their appearance on Dark Matter. Someone must have considered Art a threat to the puppet known as Dave.

What makes me suspicious is that Dave Noory was lurking in the weeds just as Coast aired on Indie. Did someone tip him off regarding our conversation or did he anticipate the shit hitting the fan? Either way, he looks like a backstabbing little toady.
